"Corner Time"

This performance explores the mental spaces that open up during control exchange in human relationships. Over the course of seven weeks, for eight hours per day, the artist will “host” the audience in an enclosed space and perform a set of actions combining methods and goals drawn from practices of meditation, discipline and restriction. The goal of this piece is to create potent, experimental situations of control exchange while playing with the multiple functions of the gaze: a mechanism for introspection, surveillance, recognition and communication.
Οι νοητικοί χώροι που διανοίγονται κατά τη διάρκεια της ανταλλαγής ελέγχου στις ανθρώπινες σχέσεις είναι το αντικείμενο διερεύνησης στο έργο της Δέσποινας Ζαχαροπούλου. Για 7 εβδομάδες, 8 ώρες την ημέρα, η καλλιτέχνης «φιλοξενεί» το κοινό σε έναν κλειστό χώρο, όπου εκτελεί μια σειρά από δράσεις συνδυάζοντας μεθόδους και πρακτικές που σχετίζονται με το διαλογισμό, την πειθαρχία, τον περιορισμό. Στόχος του έργου είναι η δημιουργία δυνητικών, πειραματικών καταστάσεων ανταλλαγής ελέγχου μέσα από το παιχνίδι των πολλαπλών λειτουργιών του βλέμματος: ως μηχανισμού ενδοσκόπησης, επιτήρησης, αναγνώρισης και επικοινωνίας.

"White Cave"

In this allegory of Plato’s Cave Nancy Stamatopoulou directs her own “spiritual confinement” within a reality composed of everyday objects.
For eight hours each day over the course of seven weeks, the artist will remain within the narrow limits set by the sights of a camera lens, confined inside her own personal “cave” and the shadowy re-enactment of a personal truth. Time passes slowly, like the movement of a turtle. Actions are repetitious, like a punishment. Reality feels remote, the possibility of escape imperceptible.

Σε μια αλληγορία του Σπηλαίου του Πλάτωνα, η Νάνσυ Σταματοπούλου σκηνοθετεί τον δικό της «πνευματικό εγκλεισμό» μέσα σε μιαπραγματικότητα που αποτελείται από καθημερινά αντικείμενα. Επί 7 εβδομάδες, 8 ώρες την ημέρα, η καλλιτέχνης παραμένει μέσα στα στενά πλαίσια που ορίζονται από το πεδίο λήψης μιας κάμερας, έγκλειστη στη δική της ατομική «σπηλιά» και τη σκιώδη αναπαράσταση μιας προσωπικής αλήθειας. Ο χρόνος είναι αργός, σαν τις κινήσεις μιας χελώνας, οι δράσεις επαναλαμβανόμενες, σαν τιμωρία, η πραγματικότητα μακρινή και η δυνατότητα διαφυγής αδιόρατη.

Wikipedia: "The massif has twelve individual peaks and ten glaciers of which Stortoppen is the highest at 2,015 m (6,611 ft). This peak is the eighth highest in Sweden. Most notable is that the mountain has a vertical drop of 1,563 metres (5,128 ft), from the top of the highest summit down to the lake Akkajaure in the valley below, which is located at 453 m (1,486 ft). This is the highest vertical drop found in Sweden. ... Due to the large level differences and the fact that the massif is well held together and rather isolated, it has an impressive appearance, earning it the nickname Queen of Lapland. In the Sámi tradition it is a holy mountain, and some hikers regard it with a sense of awe and mystique."
