PERFECTION at Science Gallery Dublin explores why humans strive for perfection.
A wave of new science and technology allows us to modify, hack and transform our lives into our own personal perfection but with growing cultural pressures to look perfect and live an ideal life, is striving for perfection a positive goal? Or is imperfection what sustains life and creates diversity and difference? By holding up a mirror to our own ideals, PERFECTION reflects our ever-changing ideas of scientific precision, psychological perfectionism and perfect imperfection.
PERFECTION runs at Science Gallery Dublin, Trinity College, Dublin 2 until 6th October.
Whenever I visit Oriel Ynys Môn in Llangefni, not for be the big bold masterpieces of Kyffin Williams, fine as they are; rather the understated yet truly incredible studies by Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe.
His woodcuts (which illustrated Tarka the Otter) gained him recognition from the Royal Academy, and his paintings are fine indeed (the ones on the right above are for Soap adverising), but for me it is his measured drawings (left) and paintings of collected specimens that are the true masterpieces. His ability to SEE is something I must admit at being very envious of, and his attention to detail I suppose is what fascinates me.
