The large cloister is a unique feature in the charterhouses. Usually monasteries have one cloister, but charterhouses have at least two, a small one and a large one. This large one comunicates with the unique isolement cells of the monks, and also is used as cemetery. This one in Saint Saveur charterhouse is preserved on it's full structure (although not the surrounding cells).
To the south of the medieval center of Vilafranca de Roergue (Villefranche-de-Rouergue in French), still stands the former charterhouse of Saint-Saveur. Although it was converted into a hospital in the XIX Century and part of the structure demolished, thanks to that transformation the main parts of this cartusian monastery still remain.

My first medium format frame! I've eventually succumbed to the lure of a medium format camera, albeit a TLR older than I am.
I didn't expect it to turn out so well, it was a steep learning curve to operate the camera and even load 120 film. Trying to view and focus using a TLR and correct parallax error. The shutter refuses to fire most of the time, as you have about ten separate conditions to fulfil before it works. I was also using a new cheap film, that I though would be rubbish. Also I wasn't sure that trying to fire my Elinchrom flashes would even work. And I'd replaced the light seals myself, so plenty of room for light leaks. What sheer luck that the first ever frame was sharp and well exposed!

The main gate of New College is one of the most iconic of all Oxford colleges. Sitting in the not-much-originally-named New College Lane, it appears to the untrained eye to lead to a cul-de-sac. But it's the main college entrance, and even the street continues to the right, though an arcade, and up to High Street.

The Mont Aigoual is the tallest peak in the Cevennes, in Occitanie. It's also the wettest place in the whole France. It's Occitan name means the mountain of the waters. So, no surprise, here.
i wanted to flesh out some ideas i've been having about snow and flash and light and depth and so forth. grabbed my roommate from some reading and shot for 6 or 7 minutes. (^hence the title^).
i really liked the way the flashed worked between the buildings though i want more control, and i liked the snow though i want more of it and for ambient to be a touch darker. in other words i want to reshoot something like this, no offence to joe.
though plans have to change since mother fucking spring is around in a big way. the snow probably won't be around much. certainly not those fatty flakes that i love so.
but i will just skate and wait and flesh things out more. plenty more ideas to pursue. and everything says that summer is great.
