A shot of one of the cows in a field off our driveway, peeking through the fence (borders on left and right). I quite liked this shot, thinking it was quite cute, and I liked the framing of the fence, but it was really sunny, and I'd completely overexposed the background... so I fiddled to see what I could do this with it. I ended up converting to b&w and applying a sepia tone, which was surprisingly close to the colour of the cow anyway, and (I think) this makes the burnt out area look intentional :D

Bridal season is here once again... a time filled with blooming trees, warm weather, and couples making the everlasting commitment of love. We (Red Weasel Media) chose the historical Fort Monroe for our first annual "Bridal Editorial" photoshoot. Our entire RWM staff spent countless hours preparing to deliver a remarkable series of images to kickoff the wedding season. The rustic soul of the decayed landscape made for the perfect juxtaposition. Whether finding the perfect dress or making the final decision on the location for your special day we encourage lovers of all ages to discover the possibilities of thinking outside the box when it comes to your bridal images.
This editorial concentrates on the bold and sheering thought of two souls getting lost amid a concrete jungle. Our bride wanders hopelessly to find her tall and handsome rescuer who waste no time to free her love of the confinement of loneliness. The magnetic connection delivers the subtle contrast as defined as his sharp jaw line. The journey nears as she realizes her prince has arrived.
This feature would not be possible without the vigorous dedication of Hair Stylist UPDOPRO, and our amazing models. I would like to thank everyone who made our first installment a success!

Found this lizard out in the garden. He was quite inquisitive and was peeking around the corner at me. I liked the simple framing and effect of the negative space. Enjoy.

This beautiful male Variegated Fairy-wren peeks out from under the cover to see if I am still there!
-Guess what, birdie, I am!
Scientific name: Malurus lamberti
Family: Maluridae
Order: Passeriformes
The breeding male Variegated Fairy-wren is brightly coloured. The crown and sides of the head are blue, and the shoulder patch is a rich chestnut. The depth and variety of colours in the male varies among the four subspecies, distributed across the Australian mainland. Non-breeding males, females and young birds are brownish grey. Females in the Northern Territory and Western Australian populations have a blue-grey (rather than brown-grey) plumage.
Several other species of fairy-wren are found in Australia. The males of each species are quite distinct, but the females and young birds are often difficult to separate. The female Variegated Fairy-wren has a dull grey-blue wash, while female and immature Superb Fairy-wrens, Malurus cyaneus, are mostly brown, with adult females having a pale greenish gloss on the otherwise brown tail. The Variegated Fairy-wren is slightly larger in size and has a longer tail either the Superb or the White-winged Fairy-wrens.
The Variegated Fairy-wren is the most widespread of the nine species of fairy-wrens found in Australia. It is found throughout Australia, being absent only from Cape York Peninsula, Tasmania and the extreme south-west corner of Western Australia.
The Variegated Fairy-wren is found in forest, woodland and shrub land habitats.
The Variegated Fairy-wren feeds on insects and a small amount of seeds. The birds feed around the base of small shrubs, and seldom stray into the open. Some food may be found among the bark and foliage of short trees and grasses.
The male Variegated Fairy-wren is often mistakenly believed to have a harem of females. The small groups actually consist of an adult female with younger or non-breeding birds. As they have a wide range, Variegated Fairy-wrens have been recorded breeding in almost every month of the year. The nest is an oval-shaped dome, constructed of grasses, and placed in a low shrub. The female alone constructs the nest and incubates the eggs, but is assisted by other group members in feeding the chicks.

“Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.”

A whitetail doe hides behind the wildflowers in Montana.
And so, I was hesitant to share my troubles with the new camera - human nature being what it can be - but everyone has their hard times and there is nothing shameful about that. Hard times are what we make honey out of.
I took the new D7000 to Montana and maybe one day I'll reveal the trouble I got myself into there but not now because the lawn needs to be weed whacked and more photos need to hit the trash. I made honey out of the difficulties though and was able to get some interesting shots that made me happy. And, I must say, my lens is sharper on the D7000 than it is on the D700 and that is doing something! So excited now but still have to get dialed in on exposure issues, which I read are a part of this camera but that they just take some getting used to.
And so I have a whole lot of edited photos sitting in the file and might, in the next day or two, drown my stream in them so that I can move on to the next ones and quite wasting time trying to decide which shot to post. In the meantime, this doe sticking her head up over the wildflowers and peering at me, makes me smile.
Oh, I did want to say one thing about the way I shoot. Some people have told me that they always shoot the subject dead center and they get some outstanding work so I am not knocking their way of doing things, only telling what mine is. My cameras haven't had the cropability like some of the others have and so awhile back I made a decision to work on composing in the camera by using the one point focusing system. This is hard work and I miss plenty of shots but I like to not worry about how I am going to crop an image and follow the rule of thirds, so it works for me. In this image I cropped some on the sides, top and bottom but the original composition is intact. Just a little tidbit about my shooting methods that I wanted to share. I almost always crop at least a small amount from my shots but very seldom do huge crops.
Have a great evening!

This is my eldest daughter Ellie-lea playing peek a boo behind a tree
Had to change it from full colour as the glare from sun was too bright
so here's a few more from the "Fun with a baby, a cardboard box and the canon 24-70L f2.8" session!

After he was held for a while, the three-banded armadillo started to loosen up. He wanted to see what was going on!
Discernable in this image are his tail, the top of his head, claws for digging, and his eye. See 'em?

ODC, Peek-a-boo
Hmmm, given the grey and inclement weather I may have to hold over on my Long Exposure idea for my 31DPC, that and lack of time today :-)
This buck popped up out of the tall grass and visited with us for a few minutes this morning. We never quite got a clear, unobstructed view.
