I can't keep from my camera even if I don't feel good :) So here is my Maddie. She learned how to cover her eyes during peek a boo this week. Up until now its been her ears lol.

The owl dove to catch a vole in the ditch beside the road. I got this shot as it peeked over the snowbank.

In one of the stores at Branson's Grand Village , the décor includes small wooden houses and they have placed these pixies (fairies) in the windows. It makes for a neat effect and an opportunity for a great shot.

I had to crow like a rooster (his new favorite animal sound) in order for him to peek around to look at me. He tolerates the constant presence of the camera, for the most part, but he truly avoids direct eye contact with it at all times. Once in a while, he will give me one of these lovely glances ♥

While the rest of the village folk are out working their paddy fields, kids play with improvised toys.

Peek, Frean & Co were established in 1857 in Bermondsey. Although still existing abroad, the firm ceased to operate in UK in 1989.

Perhaps showing my age, I can still remember biscuits being sold loose from tins and cardboard boxes like this one (in the 1950s & early 60s), especially in shops such as the Home & Colonial. We used to buy loose Jammie Dodgers from cardboard boxes for our milk break in my junior school, 2 for a halfpenny. This tin boasts of being By Appointment to HM King George V.

I noticed with my new Peek, it would turn off when being set down. After some rigorous troubleshooting (which mostly consisted of dropping my Peek from various heights onto my bed), it seemed that the battery has some "rattle room" between it and the battery cover.

My simple hack was to tape a piece of index card over the battery pack to make sure that it was held down securely by the battery cover. The tape makes a nice hinge so the battery can be removed as normal, and holds the index card in place while putting on the cover. Simple and non-destructive, something I'm not normally known for.

Just for a change from my usual fayre...

Delving deep into the recently found drive, I happened upon this whimsical shot of my cat Pamina, playing peek-a-boo in our bath.

Since this was taken in 2007, Pam Pam (as she is known) has decided to live down the road with some neighbours. I can't blame her - the food is much better at number 6. :-)

Not only, but also, she's persuaded her brother, Aberystwyth, to do the same!

I spent lovely day with the magnificent FFF+ group plus visitors David & Jesse at the Garden of St Erth, Blackwood, While the dedicated birders were out capturing our lovely tweeters, I managed this one, peeking over the hedge and keeping an eye on us all. Lovely to meet the visitors indeed. A Currawong indeed

Sunrise at Pier Park, Sunny Isles Beach, FL

OK... I haven't touched my camera in two weeks or longer and I also didn't have time to process anything so I am running out of things to post. This is fairly similar to a shot I uploaded a few days ago, but this has more pink clouds.

Unfortunately the elements didn't quite want to come together, e.g there were more pink clouds to the left and it would have been better to shoot the pier from the other side, but then the sun wouldn't have been in the shot. And colors fade pretty fast; so running from one side to the other wasn't feasible. Add to that a couple who desperately wanted to have their picture taken and I was the only one there to do that... arrgh... and I hate to be rude then and say no. So I snapped off a few pictures with their P&S before continuing my shoot.

At least they didn't expect a full model shoot at sunrise like the last couple did... LOL

Soldier Beetle

The soldier beetles, Cantharidae, are relatively soft-bodied, straight sided beetles, related to the Lampyridae or firefly family, but being unable to produce light. They are cosmopolitan in distribution. One common British species is bright red, reminding people of the red coats of soldiers, hence the common name. A secondary common name is leatherwing, obtained from the texture of the wing covers.

Historically, these beetles were placed in a superfamily "Cantharoidea", which has been subsumed by the superfamily Elateroidea; the name is still sometimes used as a rankless grouping, including the families Cantharidae, Drilidae, Lampyridae, Lycidae, Omalisidae, Omethidae, Phengodidae (which includes Telegeusidae), and Rhagophthalmidae.

Soldier beetles are highly desired by gardeners as biological control agents of a number of pest insects. The larvae tend to be dark brown or gray, slender and wormlike with a rippled appearance due to pronounced segmentation. They consume grasshopper eggs, aphids, caterpillars and other soft bodied insects, most of which are pests.

My son wasn't too excited to have his photo taken so he covered his face. Then he took a peek to see if the camera was still there.
