Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) male/juvenile

I got my first decent look at one Tawny chick this morning. You can just see it peeking out from under Dad's wing. I have put a note.

One of the small beaches common to New Zealand coastline. This is Waikouaiti Beach on the east coast of the South Island, in Otago. HDR.

The last of the three quick captures I was able to snap before the clouds took completely over. Capturing the moon with the clouds around it and getting the exposure with the highlights right at the limit allows for this single exposure to be pretty close to what the eye sees.

I also heard something go bump in the darkness once the clouds covered the moon ... and figured best to get back inside. You never know what is lurking out there under the Full Moon ;)

This bee was walking around this chicory gathering pollen. I believe that it is a mining bee.

Have I said how much I like the eye detect in the R5?

Really not a good shot, just showing how fun it is shooting birds I would never get before.

I often wonder how many eyes are watching me when I'm sitting on a meadow. Most of these eyes are very well hidden but I noticed these lovely blue ones looking at me from behind a blade of grass. They belonged to a white-legged damselfly (also called blue featherleg), one of the most common damselflies around here.

We went for a hike in the Mount Baker area. All day, Mount Baker played Peek a Boo in the clouds. For a few moments, the mountain emerged. By the time we got to a spot with a better view, the mountain had disappeared again. Mountains can be uncooperative that way sometimes.
