Wasp

I am not sure of the ID of this wasp seen on a leaf of a mirror plant yesterday.

Happy Beautiful Bug Butt Thursday!

With my camera on burst setting I tried to track this tiny Eastern Spinebill as it flitted between flower clusters. This time I got lucky. Eastern Spinebills are honeyeaters, they like brightly coloured flowers of both natives and non-natives that give them a good source of nectar. As they can even hover mid-air as they feed, they are Australia's answer to the Hummingbird, and their wings make a similar sound.

Honeyeaters like the Eastern Spinebill are important pollinators of many native plants. They also drink the nectar from introduced plants such as fuchsias, and help pollinate non-native plants as well.

Once an Eastern Spinebill likes an area, it will stay. They are not migratory birds, but instead largely like to stay in one place. I hope these little treasures will be permanent visitors to my garden.

A young raccoon peered around the tree to see if I was gone yet.

I know - it's rubbish quality! The file is too small - but I came across this picture that I took in Hawaii a few years ago, and I have tried to make it clearer because it was such a lovely moment!

Pigeon playing PEEK-A-BOO @ Castel Sant' Angelo, Rome

Stop down to the lighthouse yesterday and covered with lots of ice after the blow the other day.

A few minutes before a previous post of a similar view, with Parkhouse Hill just showing in the centre of the frame.

For anyone interested this photo is taken from the minor road above the pull-in at Cisterns Clough on the Buxton-Leek road my opinion a slightly better viewpoint than from the side of the main road

Grass Snake (Natrix natrix) This grass snake was trying very hard to hide but he was keeping an eye on me the whole time.

Ok, so this fella just popped up in the view. I was capturing something else in the background and this one felt left out. So here it is....

We rescued this little rose from the clearance corner at our local garden centre several years ago and it rewards us each summer with its sweet blooms.

Thanks for all the kind comments and faves on my images and I hope you're all staying safe and well in these strange times.

Eastern Screech-Owl hidden up at least 20-25 feet in a broken tree limb; the pines as you can see made it difficult to get a clear capture. We were so thankful to a birdwatcher that called us over to have a peek. Very exciting.

Blue-jay

The blue jay is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to eastern North America. It lives in most of the eastern and central United States; some eastern populations may be migratory. Resident populations are also in Newfoundland, Canada; breeding populations are found across southern Canada. Wikipedia

When I find a flower that is in the midst of blooming, I find myself overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of what I see before me. It seems as if all extraneous noise disappears. I am one with the flower.

Considered common in that its found in many settings. Abundant late-May through June.
