The Alhambra was a finalist for the New 7 Wonders of the World.
The name Alhambra comes from an Arabic root which means "red or crimson castle", occupying a hilly terrace on the south-eastern border of the city of Granada. Created originally for military purposes, the Alhambra was an "alcazaba" (fortress), an "alcázar" (palace) and a small "medina" (city), all in one.
It was the residence of the Muslim kings of Granada and their court, but is currently a museum exhibiting exquisite Islamic architecture. A Renaissance palace was also inserted by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor.
Granada is the capital of the province with the same name, situated in the eastern part of the region of Andalusia, Spain.
The Moors crossed the strait of Gibraltar in 711 and settled in what was then a small Visigoth town perched atop the Alhambra hill. The Moors gave the city the name "Granada". Here they settled, erected walls and laid the foundation for the prosperous civilization that would follow.
It was the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, at the hands of Queen Isabel of Castile and her husband Ferdinand of Aragon.

The recreational pathway along Woodroffe just south of the Sportsplex where it crosses Vaan Drive. This is a pretty typical pathway crossing treatment - and it is both dangerous and unsupported in law. It is dangerous because turning traffic from Woodroffe (either direction) may not be looking for rapidly approaching cyclists. It is unsupported in law because a multi-use pathway carries cyclists but riding in crosswalks is illegal under the Highway Traffic Act. The proper way to do this would have been to divert the path away from Woodroffe - not towards - and create a dedicated intersection with Vaan Drive without a crosswalk.

This was the very steep pathway my father & I took back down the mountain. This was also taken before it started raining & raining. Sad to say, but I was the last person back down. I suck.
A pathway that's in the garden. The gravel is near the decking area where the table is in one of the other photos.
