A pair of fictional military patches made in Adobe Illustrator. Inspiration from real missile wing emblems, and a fusion of other official and unofficial patches I've come across over the years.

Patch is adjusting very well. He's very talkative and is a purring machine. He is also a face rubber. Doesn't like being picked up but he's getting used to it. I'm glad I decided to keep him. He's perfect for me!!!
Mary & Patch
Pumpkin Patch digital painting created on the iPad using the Brushes App and the Pogo Sketch Stylus. October 2010.
The concept for this image was just to demonstrate typical reconstruction projects that may take place during the Appalachia Seminar. The image began by using a photo for an old worn down church (source: www.sxc.hu/photo/771955). Brightness and contrast were adjusted as needed. I then cut out a woman crouching (source: www.flickr.com/photos/visionsservice/5267076025/) and placed her on the front porch. I found a paint brush with white paint (http://www.flickr.com/photos/basykes/9157418) and placed it in her hand, using a layer mask to hide the handle of the brush. I colored the door panel white to demonstrate a fresh coat of paint. I again used a layer mask to properly position the roofer (http://www.flickr.com/photos/78428166@N00/4504175216/) on the roofer after I cut him out in a separate file. I finally added a leaf blower (http://www.flickr.com/photos/vastateparksstaff/5330616465/) to the foreground and added a filter effect for the sky, both liquefying and cutout so the house remained the main point of emphasis.
From a stash of stuff I was sorting--a rainbow patch with a Hawaiian wahine doing the hula, from the 1970s, new-old-stock purchased at The Aloha Swap Meet.
