On August 2, 2002 Northshore Mining ran a couple of passenger trips for employees. Here the Babbitt to Silver Bay leg of the trip runs east through MP 7 and the junction with the tailing basin. The NSM used two newer SD40-3s for the employee specials, along 7 passenger cars from the 261 group.

 

What was nice about NSM using the 652 and 650 is they had to round up some other power for the regular afternoon crude train.

Amtrak's "Ethan Allen Express" contained multiple firsts for me, and among them was mid-trip power switching. This train requires power to be on both ends due to a change of directions in Rutland (another first), but going in-and-out of NYC, they only need one unit, so they add/remove a unit at the Albany-Rensselaer station.

 

From here, they run the surplus unit up to Amtrak's nearby Rensselaer shops for servicing. From a fan perspective, it also allows you to get out and photograph the train in the process. In this case, we're looking south towards NYC, and the 701 would be cut off in short order, allowing the rest of the train to run south with just the 716.

SS Great Britain is a museum ship and former passenger steamship, which was advanced for her time. She was the longest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1854. She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York. While other ships had been built of iron or equipped with a screw propeller, Great Britain was the first to combine these features in a large ocean-going ship. She was the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic, which she did in 1845, in the time of 14 days.

 

The ship is 322 ft (98 m) in length and has a 3,400-ton displacement. She was powered by two inclined 2 cylinder engines of the direct-acting type, with twin 88 in (220 cm) bore, 6-foot (1.8 m) stroke cylinders. She was also provided with secondary sail power. The four decks provided accommodation for a crew of 120, plus 360 passengers who were provided with cabins and dining and promenade saloons.

 

When launched in 1843, Great Britain was by far the largest vessel afloat. However, her protracted construction and high cost had left her owners in a difficult financial position, and they were forced out of business in 1846 having spent all their funds re-floating the ship after she was run aground at Dundrum Bay after a navigational error. In 1852 she was sold for salvage and repaired. Great Britain carried thousands of immigrants to Australia from 1852 until converted to sail in 1881. Three years later, she was retired to the Falkland Islands where she was used as a warehouse, quarantine ship and coal hulk until scuttled in 1937.[2]

 

In 1970, following a cash donation by Sir Jack Hayward that paid for the vessel to be towed back to the UK, Great Britain was returned to the Bristol dry dock where she was built. Now listed as part of the National Historic Fleet, she is an award-winning visitor attraction and museum ship in Bristol Harbour, with between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors annually.

V/Line S311 still in its Victorian Railways classic blue and yellow works the 0640hrs No.8038 Up Swan Hill to Melbourne passenger working, seen near Kyneton @ 0955hrs on Tuesday 8 April 1984.

 

EMD-powered S311 was built by Clyde Engineering for the Victorian Railways in 1960. It remains in service with private operator Southern Shorthaul Railroad though as of Feb 2025 sees little regular use.

Airbus' first A330neo passenger completed its maiden voyage on October 19, 2017 in Toulouse, France.

In the brief period between the Burlington Northern merger and the creation of Amtrak, BN had a passenger scheme for locomotives. It didn't last long. In January, 1975, the Brook Park Turn (31833) was just east of Milaca led by ex NP F9A 788 in the BN passenger scheme and GN GP20's 2030 and 2005. After the North Coast Limited and the Empire Builder schemes, Burlington Northern was a disappointment.

On Labor Day weekend of 2015, Steamtown hosted their annual Railfest which featured Nickel Plate 765 on trips over the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad's Pocono Main to the Delaware Water Gap on Saturday and Monday. On Sunday, an excursion was run to Moscow with DL 4118, one of 3 of the DL's ex D&H RS3's painted in D&H inspired schemes. The excursion is seen heading east through Elmhurst, PA, ducking under one of many old EL signal bridges on the line.
