Northern 156480 brings up the rear of 2C49, the 10:22 Barrow-in-Furness - Carlisle as it passes Parton. This working was cancelled beyond Workington due to a broken rail at Maryport that threw the Cumbrian Coast line into chaos for much of the day
Arising at 3.00am in order to get to the Cumbrian Coast seemed to get harder & harder as the years past........but capturing views like this certainly made it all worthwhile!

68016 “Fearless”, 68018 “Vigilant” and 68017 “Hornet” head for Sellafield on 7 June 2017 with a single intermediate nuclear waste container mounted on a PFA. The train is 6C50, the 0130 departure from Crewe Coal Sidings and is passing through Parton.
The front of the train is adjacent to what at first glance looks like a signal but is in fact a CCTV camera. It is used by the signaller in Bransty ‘box to carry out an observation previously done by the signaller in Parton ‘box, prior to its closure in 2010. The signaller at Bransty must check that the up train is complete after vacating the single line section between Parton South and Parton North junctions by observing its tail lamp. Only then can the signaller clear Bransty’s advanced down starter located at the end of Parton station’s down platform or the up home located at Cunning Point, three miles north of the ‘box.

GBRf 69006 is on the rear of 3Q99 weedkiller train from Whitehaven to Carlisle as it departs Parton on the Cumbrian Coast. Unfortunately my planned shot over the bay was changed at the last second as an encroaching cloud dulled the foreground to the left, so instead I was left with the wonderful lit up foreground of the local sewage works. Doh!

Although by no means fully lit the light was improving as 37403 departed Parton and althogh the shot needed a tickle, the loco and train needed nothing more than lifting a touch in Levels.

37402 approaches the gallery at Parton with 2C40 0842 Carlisle to Barrow in Furness on 25th July 2015. As can be seen by the shadowy background, we only just got this in sun!

I arrived at around sunset but I enjoyed some nice light.

What next for these fine machines?

I haven't been out with my camera much lately so when I spotted the promising looking sky yesterday evening I had to go down to the beach to grab a few shots.
At Last. Having tried a few times over the years, I finally managed to capture a tractor on the early 2C35 05.50 Barrow-in-Furness to Carlisle service at Parton. I was here the day before to, but the diagram was two 68's top and tail. Today, the train was formed of 37403 with the sun making an appearance as the loco left the station. Talk about cutting it fine. Phew! 8/6/2018

After a seriously gray and wet day in Cumbria the west coast deleivered a great sunset yet gain. Here are some shots of the rough sea and the sunset light.
With around an hour or so break in between the train passing the previous shot at Workington and making its way along the coast once again to this shot at Parton, it gave plenty of time for the little bit of cloud cover that had come over to clear again. However as is always with most days out recently this shot was captured with seconds to spare before heading into complete dull.
Proving to be rather popular for most rail photographers at the minute with the formations for the diagrams being created using Top and Tail tractors which is soon to be a single tractor with a DBSO at one end, allows opportunities to capture shots like this to be a perfect chance. 37402 is seen here leading 2C40 through Parton with the second Barrow service of the morning.
