The return "Retro Cumbrian Coaster" is seen rolling away from Parton South Junction on its return to Chesterfield.

37510 leads 37800 and 57312. The 57 had tailed the outbound working but could not be removed from the train at Workington as it was apparently the only handbraked item in the consist due to the absence of a brake van.

While down on the rocks on Sunday evening I thought I had seen the last of the sun as it went behind a cloud but was caught by surprise when it reappeared just above the horizon. Fortunately I spotted this little channel running through the rocks which gave me a composition with which to shoot the sunset.

Taken on an afternoon with some great motion in the ocean (well the it is sea)

Today was not a day for macro but it was a day for sunset and waves at Parton beach. The clouds had moved by this late stage but the colour of light made up for it

The St Kilda Botanical Gardens are a very beautiful place to visit, not least for all for their wonderful array of roses found in the Alister Clarke Rose Garden.

Named after the famous American singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist, "Dolly Parton" is a vigorous, bushy, large-flowered hybrid tea rose. Like its namesake it is brash, and doesn't make any apologies for it! Bred by American hybridiser, Joe Winchel, it is noted for its extremely fragrant, rich orange-red flowers that repeat bloom in flushes throughout the season.

The site of the St Kilda Botanical Gardens were established in the 1800's. The municipal council petitioned the Department of Lands and Survey to make this segment of land bordered by Dickens Street, Tennyson Street and Blessington Street a Botanic Garden. The gardens were formally established in 1859 when a boundary fence was erected. By 1907 significant donations of money and plant material had led to the establishment of a rosary, extensive flower beds and a nursery. Exotic forest trees were planted during the 1870s and Australian species were included in 1932. In the 1950s the Alister Clarke Rose Garden was established and a Sub-Tropical Rain-forest conservatory added in the early 1990's.

Partons, la mer est belle,

Cadono le foglie

Cadono già le foglie. Sono stanche.

Hanno visto tant'acqua e tanto sole.

Sbocciate con le tenere viole,

cadono prima delle nevi bianche.

La loro vita dura una stagione:

cadono a sciami, a sciami frusciando;

i bimbi le sparpagliano passando

e le raccolgono a farsene corona.

Il vento le trasporta in mulinello

e soffia e picchia con malinconia;

esse fan tutti gli anni questa via:

parton col brutto e tornano col bello.

A shot from February last year, I did a mono version of another frame at the time but I still liked the colour so here it is.

37606 is seen rounding the curve at Parton working 2C41 Barrow to Carlisle, 37402 'Stephen Middlemore' was on the rear.

I made an in impromptu trip to Parton shore last night to see what I could find. The tide was good so I thought it might be worth a chance. This was the best of the sunset colour which disappeared shortly after I shot this image.

The last day of July 2017 on the west coast of Cumbria and yet again we have rough seas and clouds.

After stopping at Parton, 68003 heads north with 2C45, 0918 Barrow - Carlisle service with 68017 bringing up the rear. Seen in glorious sunshine with a lovely view down the coast on the 22nd June 2018 at 1054

This is another image taken on the same day as my previous 2 uploads. I decided to have a bit of a play around with this one in Photoshop and come up with something a little more creative. I used some overlays I have on file and added an extra layer of cloud along with the light flare, a dust layer and some additional toning. I am a huge fan of composite images (there are some very talented and creative Photoshop artists out there) and it is something I have wanted to try for a while. Check out my Facebook page to see the original file and the image as I would normally process it.
