37409 emerges from the shadows of the cliffs into some glorious morning sunlight at Parton. A shot I have been eyeing for a while, finally prompted into doing something about it by Tom McAtee's upload last week. To anyone else - the shadows only cleared a few moments before it came round the corner, and it was running on time.
6K74, DRS’ 0909 Sellafield – Crewe flask train is pictured at Parton North Junction led by 68003 “Astute” and 68004 “Rapid”. The train is coming off the singled section of the Cumbrian coast line at Lowca on 15 May 2021.
Great mural of two of Nashville's finest artists painted on a building just south of Downtown Music City...Dolly Parton and Leon Russell.
‧ Dolly Rebecca Parton is an American singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman, known primarily for her decades-long career in country music. After achieving success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly, which led to a career spanning over fifty years. Parton has been described as a "country music legend" and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling female artists of all time. She has received 11 Grammy Awards out of 50 nominations, including the Lifetime Achievement Award; ten Country Music Association Awards, including Entertainer of the Year and is one of only seven female artists to win the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year Award; five Academy of Country Music Awards, also including Entertainer of the Year; four People's Choice Awards; and three American Music Awards. She is also in a select group to have received at least one nomination from the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, and Emmy Awards. In 1999, Parton was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2005, she received the National Medal of Arts and in 2022, she was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a nomination she had initially declined, but ultimately accepted and was inducted.

‧ Leon Russell was an American musician and songwriter who was involved with numerous bestselling records during his 60-year career that spanned multiple genres, including rock and roll, country, gospel, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, southern rock, blues rock, folk, surf, and the Tulsa Sound. As a pianist, Russell played in his early years on albums by the Beach Boys, Dick Dale, and Jan and Dean. On his first album, Leon Russell, in 1970, the musicians included Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. One of his early fans, Elton John, said that Russell was a "mentor" and an "inspiration". They recorded their album The Union in 2010, earning them a Grammy nomination. Russell also produced and played in recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ike & Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, and many other artists. And, he performed at The Concert for Bangladesh in 1971, along with Harrison, Dylan, and Clapton; for this he earned a Grammy Award. His recordings earned six gold records and he received two Grammy Awards from seven nominations. In 2011, he was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

47475 heads 4P24 the up Huddersfield postal on 11 April 1985. The train is clattering through Parton South Junction where the Cumbrian coast line reverts to double track after a short singled section round the Lowca Sea Brows.
Thanks to rhifddeugain for loco ID.
In lovely conditions 37423 'Spirit of the Lakes' runs along the Cumbrian Coast at Parton with the 2C40 08.42 Carlisle - Barrow service on 23rd May 2015.
This year's annual Three Peaks Challenge By Rail hit the tracks last week and during Friday the train trundled up the Cumbrian Coast Line to allow participants to alight at Ravenglass in order to undertake the ascent (and descent) of Scafell Pike.
Once this had been taken care of the train then headed onward to Fort William and the test that would be Ben Nevis.
Unfortunately this year saw 57s rostered, ousting the previous years' favourites the Class 37s. It also saw top & tail mode as opposed to the double heading of the past.
The train had started out with 57310 & 57301 but the latter boiled its coolant and was replaced with Northern Belle liveried sister 57312.
When I left work on Friday evening the forecast didn't look great, the miniscule bit of brightness that in theory would be on offer would be between Workington & Maryport.
Workington was in reality subsumed by cloud so I devised my own forecast by looking out of the window.
There was evidence of the tiniest clearance in the crud further south so I got in the car and aimed for it notwithstanding that it would head me toward the train, thereby reducing my set-up time.
As I reached Parton the sun came out into a clear blue patch.
I had time to park, get my camera & ladder out, walk through the tunnel, erect the ladder, climb it and set exposure & composition before 57310 hoved in to view around Redness Point.
Took my shots, climbed down the ladder and the sun went in, not to be seen again.
Job done!
Parton shore near Whitehaven a few weeks ago. This is a handy little place for sunsets which is great when the tide and weather are right :-)
A neighbor is on hospice care so I have been baking a lot lately. I made these using one of the new Dolly Parton cake mixes. They turned out very well as good as scratch and I like to think anything that makes her money helps her book project.
The St Kilda Botanical Gardens are a very beautiful place to visit, not least for all for their wonderful array of roses found in the Alister Clarke Rose Garden.
Named after the famous American singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist, "Dolly Parton" is a vigorous, bushy, large-flowered hybrid tea rose. Like its namesake it is brash, and doesn't make any apologies for it! Bred by American hybridiser, Joe Winchel, it is noted for its extremely fragrant, rich orange-red flowers that repeat bloom in flushes throughout the season.
The site of the St Kilda Botanical Gardens were established in the 1800's. The municipal council petitioned the Department of Lands and Survey to make this segment of land bordered by Dickens Street, Tennyson Street and Blessington Street a Botanic Garden. The gardens were formally established in 1859 when a boundary fence was erected. By 1907 significant donations of money and plant material had led to the establishment of a rosary, extensive flower beds and a nursery. Exotic forest trees were planted during the 1870s and Australian species were included in 1932. In the 1950s the Alister Clarke Rose Garden was established and a Sub-Tropical Rain-forest conservatory added in the early 1990's.

Deltic 55022 'Royal Scots Grey' passes Parton on the Cumbrian Coast with a railtour. 30 August 2010.
Saturday's Carlisle - Euston "Cumbrian Coast Express" is eased off Parton's "Windy Corner" by LMS Jubilee 5699 "Galatea".
Had I known about the motley collection of portakabins, containers and fencing sections which have appeared here I would've shot the train from the waggonway below, as opposed to up on the cliffs at Toll Bar, to hide them but I didn't leave work until 25 minutes before the train was due so by the time I'd walked out here there was no time to relocate.
Despite the best efforts of the driver to put on a bit of a show for me, the cloud had come over 5 minutes earlier and this, together with a poor choice of location, spoilt the coming towards shot. I've put up the going away shot for you to chuckle at!

On one of those splendid sunny days on the Cumbrian Coast when the Isle of Man is clearly visible, DRS 37688 'Kingmoor TMD' (with 37409 on the rear) sets away from Parton heading the 2C49 11:38 Barrow to Carlisle Northern service on 8 June 2015.
