Almost back to the car park

The day had been rainy and gray and looked like it would continue into the night. About 40 minutes before sunset the skies seem to lighten at the horizon and I thought there might be a slight chance of some color, any color other than grey! I drove to Swamis and set up. The clouds had moved back in and the clouds had thicken. Darkness seemed to be my payoff. After a few more minutes the light changed again and then the sun decided to make a long awaited appearance. The light was only there for about 3 or 4 minutes but it was worth the wait.

This is the final picture that I took on the Big Island (with the 6D anyway).

This means that all of you that have been looking at my photos of the Big Island and saying "it looks so drab", get ready! Kauai is up next, and we are back to my trademark vibrant colors! Some of them are REALLY vibrant!

It was hard to say farewell to the Big Island - we fell in love with it. But the Hawaiian Islands are magnificent, and our Kauai vacation was just about to begin.

This shot is of Crater Rim Drive, the section that is closed. It was our final visit after nearly a week of touring HVNP. Truly an amazing place! Aloha!

Robert Palmer Parting Shot

This is the last thing that I'll have time to post before taking a couple of days off to deal with family holiday gatherings. For those of you that might be related to me, there is no underlying meaning to this shot. Really.

Wow! This shot made it to Explore #203 on Christmas Eve. Thanks for the gift, everyone!

This image was captured during a misty/foggy morning explore of a local woodland.

Some short time after capturing the previous image, I made my way up the path.

With the mist and fog still in the air I noticed the light attempting to breakthrough and reveal the landscape below.

After a fast paced night at work, I walked out of the building to find pillars in the sky. I couldn't get to a dark spot to capture the pillars when they were really brilliant. This is still pretty powerful.

I think this will be my last shot from the upper canyon. It was really crowded in there and really stressful, but all in all I feel pretty good about the shots I managed to get. It was well worth dealing with all the people in order to see one of the most amazing places on the planet. Just absolutely mind bogglingly beautiful in all directions. We bought our tour from Carol Bigthumb. Our guide was wonderful and we enjoyed hanging out with the family afterwards and eating Navajo Tacos from their food van. We felt good about supporting such a great family, and will go with them again if we're ever back in Page.

Donnybrook's AX545 is seen beside Donnybrook's EV100 laying over at the Palmerstown terminus of route 18, on the last day of AX and EV operation on the route. It would have been more fitting if it was AX648, given EV100 is the last EV, but this was a good line up either way.

The time soon comes for parting,

And our time is at an end,

The rest of your life is starting,

And we have no time at all to spend.

You knew one day you'd have to go,

But thought you'd have more time.

We can't reverse time's one-way flow,

But at least you'll have this rhyme.

You had your shining moments,

Upon this life's darkened stage,

And in my book of wonderments,

You'll never be just another page.

Like the exploding of a star,

You've changed me in and out,

Your light will travel with me far,

Past when all other lights go out.

Have an enjoyable day, everyone...

After making the loop around Bear Lake bid refuge we headed home.

Driving along the canal the heron was flaying along. He finally stopped & I was able to capture some shots of him,

Actually best viewed on black ...

the view from within. The Hexagon, and early palladian pavilion in Cirencester Park aligns with the avenue opposite and once formed a convenient retreat from the long avenue through the estate from the town. On a hot summery afternoon it provides an excellent rest-stop.

Actually went here researching a similar structure on the Kings Weston estate. Hexagonal is an unusual form for such a building and therefore this provides an excellent model for a similarly formed garden building. If only i had been there just 10 mins later to get that shadow exactly symmetrical...

Behind her eyes there's curtains...

And they've been closed to hide the flames,... remains...

She knows... their future's burning,

But she can smile just the same, same...

And though her mood is fine today

There's a fear they'll soon be parting ways

Standing, like a statue

A chin of stone, a heart of clay, hey...

And though he's too big a man to say

There's a fear they'll soon be parting ways

As evening descends upon the tower, a few locals gather to witness the passing of not only trains, but mostly time. A few brats and burgers on the grill make for nice camaraderie.
