The clouds parted long enough for me to capture the Milky Way in the heart of Snowdonia.
Had a brilliant day up in Dinorwic yesterday. We went later than normal and the forecast for the evening was clear skies. I knew the moon wasn't going to wash out the sky so an ideal chance to get a good shot of the MW which has always been an ambition of mine. Well in typical Welsh weather it rained and was fairly cloudy! I did manage to shoot this tho at the roadside. Quite happy with it to be honest...
Monday afternoon turned quite pleasant for a bit. Temps in the 50's and the morning rain moved out. This was before the evening thunderstorm came through. Five exposure HDR processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2
Part of a series by me and Luke telling the story of these two characters. You can read the accompanying words by Joel Stagg over on Luke's photostream.
I loved editing this one. I feel like I really pushed myself with it so it was very satisfying. The story is coming to an end and I can feel the sadness.

Donald Trump's latest hair transplant!
Or, a nice clump of hair ice. Quite a bit around on this particular morning.
This image is part of a series that was captured during a morning explore of a local woodland in December.
By the time I had made it to this part of the woodland, the light was being to breakthrough the mist.
IANR 3810 leads the Oelwein turn over the Crane Creek wood trestle in Dunkerton, IA. This would end up being the last photo I will take of an Iowa Northern train, as effective tomorrow (Friday, February 14th) CN assumes control of the company; closing the book on another midwestern railroad.
After my last trip into Cataloochee Valley for the year, I loaded up and headed to the woods to spend some time with a couple old friends camping, laughing down memory lane while reliving time well spent at a younger age. After a restful, cool 45 degree night in my hammock, swaying with a gentle breeze, drifting off to sleep to the sound of the babbling stream nearby, snug as a bug in my sleeping bag, I returned home ready to again chase the light of autumn in western North Carolina. This, an earlier image of Palmer Chapel in Cataloochee Valley, framed with Autumn's palette of colors as a bull elk grazes on the chapel lawn. What could be finer that a day spent in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina or Tennessee...

Unfortunately, this was the last image I was able to capture during my day at Ricketts Glen. (I made a total amateur mistake and forgot to bring a second battery for the camera) F.L. Ricketts Falls is the second fall from the top of Glen Leigh, and a great scene in low or high flow. I certainly hope to be able to return to Ricketts Glen at some point in the not too distant future. The unseasonably warm weather in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States has delayed the peak autumn color change. Before today this region has had very little rainfall, so the falls are not roaring at their full grandeur, but I was quite pleased with what I was able to capture.

My trusty Pentax Z-10 film SLR camera. I used to work in photographic retail in the early 1990's when this camera was released. I was amazed at how it was 'auto-everything', focus, aperture, shutter speed, DX film ISO reading, etc. It was like a point and shoot with the quality of an SLR.
So recently i've run a few rolls of film through it and it's kind of fun, but even in this digital age, I still prefer my manual settings so I found this camera a little, well, um, boring now. The styling is amazing though - I will always love the clean lines and modern shape of this classic SLR.
Today it went to a new home in ebayland. Not sure if i'll regret that decision, but I had to take this parting shot before it got packed for its journey to its new home. Farewell little Z-10, thanks for the fun times.
*** Footnote - I found another Z10 in an antique store about a year later. I've still got this one (and it's in better condition than the one in this photo!).
Sunset over Tuggerah Lake, The Entrance.
One of those moments on the last day of our road trip. it had been overcast all day and the evening walk looked to be leading to a sunset fizzer.
At the last minute though, small horizintal breaks appeared in the cloud, in turn illuminating the clour further up.

I’m usually excited to find mushrooms but this one is kind of sad. The maple it is on has died and I have had to cut it down. It was a great tree, and I’ll miss it. I got this last shot off before the chainsaws started up.
Taken on the last Day in Point Pelee NP. I When we started in early May, a handful of these birds came into the swampy area and images were of them surrounded by the clutter of branches, so this parting image was so special He stayed for what seemed like minutes but must likely perhaps a minute
I enjoyed a very productive trackside experience around Echo, Utah on Thursday, June 13, 2024. My camera was packed away, with the satisfaction of catching six trains in about three hours time. No sooner did I hit the Lincoln Highway when BOOM, the block signal at Echo turned green. Minutes later, a well powered Roper, Utah - North Platte, Nebraska manifest pulled into town with 133 cars.
The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd wind slowly o'er the lea,
The ploughman homewards plods his weary way,
And all is left to darkness and to me.
Now fades the glimmering landscape on the sight,
And all the air a solemn stillness holds,
Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight,
And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds;
Save that from yonder ivy-mantled tow'r
The moping owl does to the moon complain
Of such as, wand'ring near her secret bow'r,
Molest her ancient solitary reign.
Beneath those rugged elms, that yew-tree's shade,
Where heaves the turf in many a mould'ring heap,
Each in his narrow cell for ever laid,
The rude Forefathers of the hamlet sleep.

A beautiful pastel, misty sunset at St Bartholomew's Church, Shapwick.
When I clean the empty shells I've collected from beaches, I soak them in bleach and water (to kill off any stinky bacteria), then rinse and rinse, and drain and spread them out to dry. This is a small sieve that helps in the process.
Taken for this weeks (13-Aug-2018) Macro Mondays "Mesh" theme.
- Happy Macro Monday everyone :-)

Some of the cloud puffs blowing down from the north (see photo below) headed straight for the Hancock Center building. However, the tower parted the clouds like air around a wing and the two streams tailed past over the Loop.

One of my last shots of the day - egrets wading and looking for their next meal. Observations from Plum Island National Wildlife Refuge
A very gloomy and cold afternoon at Lulworth Cove.
Looking directly out of the cove entrance, the in-coming tide was parting each time the wave receded back, to give this near symmetrical image.
The larger stones adding foreground interest.
The first in a trilogy of builds for a story, built for round 5 of the MOCOlympics (all were built in one week), about a Samurai and his lover - the story is quite simple, and so it ended up a picture story, if you know what I mean. The builds/story had to be based on a piece of music, and A Way of Life by Hans Zimmer is the one I chose. A lovely piece, which I listened to for the first time for this contest. I built what I envisioned as occurring during the music. I hope you enjoy, I won the round and am now working on my build for the final round. The next build, btw, is the one which the recent teaser was for, to come shortly.
