I was out for a walk at our local lagoon the other day. I enjoyed the walk, but there weren't very many subjects to photograph. I was just about ready to leave with my SD card nearly empty when this Finch landed right in front of me on some dried twigs. I got off a couple of quick snaps before it took off and came home with a neat environmental portrait for my effort.
The Parting Glass is an old Irish song about a man who is having his last drink at his pub. He is saying goodbye to his friends but the song doesn't tell us why he is having "to go." One can speculate from the words that perhaps he is dying. It is a sad song, one of lonliness and isolation and yet somewhat of a celebration of a man's frienships and good memories. I'm submitting it for the Jan 25, 2021 Macro Monday's theme of "Lockdown Song". By the way, it's played in the key of Am.
In this high key image a barefoot sailor stands at attention on the bowsprit of Kaiwo Maru during the departure ceremony, as a sailor at the end of the bowsprit waves his hardhat in the air and shouts a salute as she gets ready to leave Steveston, BC en route to a stopover in Hawaii on her way back to Japan.

Sunday's chase of Job 2 ended us at Mile 19 where many with Job 1 usually start. I had planned to get out to the trestle but didn't break away early enough to leave time, thinking the sun was going to be too far around.Come to find out I was sorely mistaken. Nevertheless, we did make it in time to find high ground on the rock ledges to get the train easing down toward Onawa and the home stretch to Brownville Jct.
DI1 pulls into Osspiee Aggregates to spot their empties from Rochester. They ran to Dover as a local job today due to BODO never making it out of Boston. The weather forecast was crap all day so I didn't plan on going out, but near the end of my work day the sun started coming out so I chanced it. It made for a good afternoon.
More lightning from my July trip! The power of a creator that can make something like this, amazing. However, that same power raised Jesus from the dead and can raise us, if we will give Him our heart. Something to think about. Thanks for stopping by and have a Merry Christmas!!
Although this location was not our last, I figured this would be a good one to close out the series of this epic two day chase me Nolan and Nick were lucky to have chasing the most beautiful set of cab units in the country (a fact not an opinion). Thanks for putting up with all the posting the last few days now back to our regular scheduled program.
This Union Pacific local is eastbound on the Fairmont Subdivision passing harvest activity among the fields between Welcome and Fairmont. The train just passed the Valero ethanol facility and will bypass the industries in the Fairmont industrial park and continue to Mason City.
It doesn't hurt to look back. As photographers we tend to be focused, locked into what's in front of us. We navigate the landscape moving forward, searching for a composition. No real surprise given our evolution and the placement of our eyes.
But, like I said, it doesn't hurt to look back.

Rough Ridge, Blue Ridge Parkway, North Carolina
There were many times on this morning in which the fog completely shrouded the ridge but I liked this moment where a little part allowed some firs to show through.
The last shot of the Calapooia River. It was a very invigorating experience shooting this wonderful little river. I loved every minute of it! (Best Viewed Large) :)
The mist and cloud finally part just after sunrise revealing the rocks of the Storr. The Old Man is still veiled in the remnants of the mist.
I liked the light shafts hitting the pillars and shards of rock and the Black and White certainly helped in bringing the craggy textures to life.
Ramsey Bay. Passing snow showers producing the most unusual light before sunrise, a completely stunning morning.

I was packing up my gear ready for the ungodly drive home in summer traffic. I noticed this shot that was glaringly obvious and over taken and couldn't resist. Why you ask? The same reason I eat sour patch kids every lunch break, no will power..

As the sun sets on a beautiful day in Ontario the OSR's Woodstock job is back in Ingersoll with a pair of 1950's classics on the point with the sun glinting off the good looking paint job. 2/12/18
The rear DPU on an empty coal train heads away from the camera as it heads up the Brush Subdivision for another load of coal. This was the last train we saw on a memorable week-long trip to Colorado and the surrounding states. Nine years later, I finally edited the rest of the B-roll and related shots.
On the way down to the NS Heritage unit event in Spencer we came across this then rare original Conrail paint leader north of Marion, OH on a southbound. This was one of the last few "real" Conrail led trains I shot. 7/2/12
The title needs some explanation...the River Severn divides into two channels at Gloucester and forms an island - Alney Island - now a nature reserve. It was once crossed by a railway and was also used for growing willow for basket making, now the disused railway line forms a path across the reserve and it’s a peaceful spot, even though it’s very close to the city.
