I was so excited as this particular night was the only night that month in our recent Kruger Park 6 week camping break that had no moon for the whole night . This meant that in addition to no light pollution from having no Human habitation for miles around , the sky was also Dark!! The Sky was on fire as a result. I cant wait for going on some amazing camping in the remoter parts of the Karoo and Namaqualand staying off grid on farms over Christmas and next year to make use of more dark skies like we experienced in Northern Kruger Park Recently

Sometimes I get TOO caught up in making "perfection". On this particular trip I was so disappointed that we left later than I had wanted to on our four drive to the mountains (9 am instead of 4:30 am with all 6 kids! can anyone say unrealistic expectations?!) We reached the places we had drove all this way for me to see - in the dead of the afternoon. The sun was glaringly bright. I stood at this spot looking at this incredible view and instead of feeling absolutely inspired and grateful to be here - I was too busy lamenting to myself that the shadows would be harsh, that the sun had ruined the moment. Yes, I 'm ashamed. I realized that in the photographer aspect I had let myself get "selfish" and discontent. It had become all about getting the "perfect" shot. If it was perfect it wasn't worth anything. But what about those moments of sheer awe, of just being in the absolute stillness and seeing these rolling peaks, that winding road that I had just drove up just minutes before?! This whole chain of thoughts made me realize how much I needed an attitude adjustment. On the heels of that came so many encouraging comments on my last post about posting pictures of my kids. You all really gave me so much to think about it... I've been thinking and re-examining, why I shoot? Why take the pictures? Why go to the perfect places? What is my reason for picking up my camera? I had to be brutally honest with myself. I wrote my reasons down and when I felt like I wasn't being honest with myself I scribbled them out! When I finally got an HONEST list that I knew from the bottom of my heart was true, I was shocked...and sad. Shooting had become too much about other people and so much less about myself. Perhaps this has evolved as I started a business. In aspects there isn't really choice on whether your shooting for a client or for yourself. When you take on clients, you shoot differently. You shoot with a different eye - because it's for someone else. This isn't bad. I'm not trying to make it sound like shooting professionally is bad... it's just I hadn't realized that it had consumed other aspects of my life - like shooting for me. What about me? What do I shoot for as an individual outside of my business? I sat down to this picture about a week later with new eyes to reavulate and re-edit. So new attitude adjustment- I am posting this because I love the mountains and I love this spot! ;) It makes me feel good (proud even) to go places, take my kids on adventures and spend time outdoors. Recording those moments is special to me. Somewhere in my landscapes there is a longing that I feel and see when going back over them. It's a freedom, a wanderlust, a reminder to GO. Don't make excuses, don't wait til later and don't ever make excuses not to take a picture because the weather or the timing isn't right for picture!!

Thank you for all the wisdom you all impart to me in your amazing comments. They keep me going, keep me thinking and ALWAYS keep my inspired and grateful to know and have such. wonderful community around me.

Happy Wednesday friends xxoo

much love,

Rachel

This particular evening was very good to me and I have thankfully come away with a few pleasing results. This is the third image posted around this subject, all a little different, working with different compositions to best show the awesome force of Mother Nature..

I’ve developed a fondness for a particular spot on the shores of Loch Leven to photograph sunsets. I’ve been there so many times now that I’m sure my Flickr feed is going to become even more repetitive. I’ve found that the local wildlife is also pretty accustomed to visitors to that spot and arriving with a few slices of bread brings in a multitude of interesting subjects. This is one of my favourites a very handsome young swan who is friendly enough to eat out of your hand. Not that getting that close is any good for photographs because he gets inside the minimum focus distance, however, throw some food out a few yards from the shore and he’ll pose for ages.

This one comes from an early Sunday morning not too long ago. Normally, I am not in such a hurry to shoot the sunrise in the streets on Sunday as I like to have some quiet time for myself, but having a Canon EOS 5Ds to test with pretty much sealed the deal that I was out the door as soon as a crack of light showed. The tricky thing about Sunday morning for me is that for some Saturday night hasn't ended yet....making for a little bit of a mess if someone gets the wrong idea seeing me, the big guy, with a camera pointed toward them!

Overall, on this particular morning it was fairly quiet and I was somewhat alone and enjoying the peace. Eventually I came across this gentleman who looked like he was a bit reluctant to let Saturday become Sunday, but with the sun on his back almost pushing him up the hill he saw me shooting and smiled super wide at me, spilling his kabob and proclaiming at the top of his voice " D O B R AN O C DUDE" laughed, swayed and continued on his way. As did I. :)

Shanghai in the fog.

We did not have the best weather throughout most of our trip.

This created a bit of a photographic challenge.

On this particular evening, Shanghai's business district Skyline was in the clouds most of the time.

A bit of fun and practise with Photoshop on this one.

This image consists of 12 vertical shots in 3 rows stitched in Photoshop CC.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Thanks for looking.

In capturing this building from this particular angle, I sought to transcend mere architectural representation to reveal the graphic rhythm that animates our urban environment. My intention was to transform this facade into an almost abstract composition, where sharp white lines dialogue with the deep blues of the windows. I deliberately chose this diagonal perspective to create visual tension and give an impression of movement to this static structure. This tight framing eliminates any superfluous context, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in this pure geometric play. I wanted the eye to get lost in this rhythmic repetition, in this alternation of solids and voids, to offer a visual experience that transcends simple architectural documentation and becomes a meditation on the formal beauty that surrounds us daily.

Garden of the gods is a stunning park filled with very unique and majestic rock formations in the heart of Colorado Springs. It is one of my favorite places to visit in the area as I am a huge fan of the red/orange coloring of the rocks. This color contrasts very nicely with the blue sky creating a beautiful and dramatic landscape. This morning in particular was extra beautiful and special as I got to witness a stunning sunrise after a long 13 hours of driving and busy holiday season beforehand. I am so thankful to the Lord for all of these special handmade gifts that He has given to me on this trip! All praise be to God!

Joyita!!

This particular set from a fortnight ago has produced some of my best shots from the last 2 years. A whole combination of things made these - the new perches I installed trying to make the most of the available light in this shaded spot, a nice bright sunny day (winter sun less harsh than summertime) which enabled the use of my 1.4 extender on my 100-400mm lens and of course the Kingfisher that decided to hang around for a good 25-30 minutes. Taken with my Canon 7D MkII, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II with 1.4x III on a Sirui ball head sitting on a carbon Manfrotto tripod. 1/250 sec at f/8.0, 560mm focal length with an ISO of 160 and edited in Adobe Lightroom Classic.

BNSF 7921 leads a southbound vehicle train through Colorado Springs, CO.

I don't catch many SB autoracks, but I see my fair share of NB racks. Those NB vehicle trains typically run 1x1, so I was happy to see this one running with the power up front.

Heading into April 2016, traffic on the Joint Line has been down ~70% with the line seeing an average of 10-12 trains per day. But on this particular morning, I saw 5 trains in a 4-hour window making it feel a little like the "classic" Joint Line...

According to one particular theory, the scientific name of tansy’s genus comes from the Greek word for ‘deathless’. Tansy has been used in the embalming process and has been a common graveyard plant in Finland too. In the old days it was used to flavour stews, baking, salads and – of course – strong spirits. It has also been used as a tobacco substitute and to dye wool, and it helps compost decompose more quickly. It has been shown to keep pests away from fruit trees and perennials and when it is dries it repels moths, flies, midges and ants from indoor places. Especially in Lapland, where the choice of undemanding and easily-cared-for perennials is not so large, tansy grows in every yard and has held onto its spot as a natural perennial in the flower-bed. Its strong stems stick up during the winter, and as they keep well, tansy also makes a pleasant dried flower. (source: Luontoportti)

The trouble with not having a particular photographic style or theme to follow is rather making my stream look like a car wreck at the moment. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing but it's all part of your development as a photographer I keep telling myself. This is a deliberate attempt at Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) with a little bit of zoom twist (I think).

No prizes for guessing the runner... we both used to do a bit of running, but since I joined Flickr that activity has well and truly gone out of the window along with my waistline!

I brought this shell back from Baja California Mexico, and it's been sitting out in the garden for the last six years. I brought it inside to photograph this afternoon because it's raining today, which is a rather rare event in San Diego County.

Lighting: Placed on a piece of black Perspex, and then lit with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox positioned at camera right and just out of the frame. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera left.

I've wasted a good couple of hours today waiting for the snow to return. One particular app had us in the middle of a snowstorm for those 2hrs! Good job it wasn't a paid one!

Come 1pm I'd had enough and got ready to walk the young lady.

I'd discovered this path the previous day. I'd thought it was a private road running up to the old vicarage but turns out it isn't. As yesterday I only had 70-200 with me, I thought it would look much better with a wider lens and a little more atmosphere. Hence me waiting for the snow to return to revisit.

I initially took a few images here but without the snow it looked boring. I ventured further and higher and coming from the South I could see the snow rolling in. The good old Beeb had predicted heavy snow at 2pm and they didn't disappoint for once! A quick round trip of the fields and I returned as the snow fell heavier.

I still feel it lacks atmosphere. The snow was driving and without the tripod I couldn't slow the shutter enough to catch the streaks..

One to revisit with a little mist I think.....

But there's this one particular harbor ...

These particular asters are quite small...about an inch In diameter.

Asters actually come out in October signaling to me that the warmth of summer is over, that the colors of autumn are in full swing... and the bitterness of winter is not too far away. They are the last kiss of bright flowers until next year.

Bertem (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbɛrtɛm] ⓘ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality comprises the towns of Bertem proper, Korbeek-Dijle and Leefdaal. On January 1, 2006, Bertem had a total population of 9,215. The total area is 29.75 km2 which gives a population density of 310 inhabitants per km2.

The area is noted for its rural landscape, in particular the "Koeheide"[2] and "Bertembos" ("Bertem Forest"). On the open plains of Leefdaal, it is possible to see the endangered European Hamster (Cricetus cricetus)).[3] The village of Bertem itself is home to the Sint-Pieters-Bandenkerk [nl], a romanesque church built between 950 and 1050.

In the center, in the heart of Auroville lies the community's spirituality and the meditative fulcrum is the large sphere covered with golden discs called Matrimandir, the Mother's Temple in translation but the temple is wrong in its conception because it was intended not as a place of particular venerations but only as recollection without dogmatic and cultural divisions.

Lake Wanaka in New Zealand is famous for one very particular tree... So here's a picture of different one smile emoticon

I took this shot on our trip last year. We based ourselves in Wanaka for a few days and had been out being tourists on this day. The weather became grotty late on and we had given up the idea of taking any sunset photos, so we meandered back to town in the rain to find somewhere to have dinner.

Just as we pulled into town and hit the main street, this incredible pink glow burst through a gap in the clouds and illuminated the sky.

So we quickly pulled off the road and scrambled (in the rain) to find any semblance of a composition, before squeezing off a couple of shots during the back-end of the sky-show. Then moments later the skies were dark and grey again.

Definitely a big case of "photographers panic" and probably the shortest photoshoot I've ever done.

I'm not 100% happy with the composition of my shot, but looking back now at least it's a nice reminder of the incredible sky we briefly witnessed.

Cheers

Steve

Deer Lake was our primary destination on this day.

I love this particular trail because it is rocky and has

a nice steady climb, thus a person needs to focus on

every step.

I like that!

This particular structure has always fascinated me. These are ancient petrified sand dunes and I find it interesting how this little bowl contains a different colored sand. Snow Canyon, Washington County, Utah.

This Black Browed Albatross was photographed somewhere in the Southern Atlantic Ocean between Argentina and the Falkland Islands.

Whilst others on the boat were knocking back their cocktails I was often to be found out on deck, constantly being blown around whilst on the look out for seabirds. There were good numbers at times but the Black Browed Albatross and the Southern Giant Petrels were the two species that came close and showed interest. As such most of the photographs I took were of these two species. Both species but in particular the albatross hardly seemed to move a muscle and simply wheeled around floating on the updraft from the ocean.
