I'm admittedly not a great bird photographer, but being in Florida and seeing so many different varieties of birds, cranes today in particular, I couldn't resist taking a few shots. Not the greatest, but kinda fun to do.
Due to its innate sympathy and the particular characteristics of its behaviour, the woodpecker has jumped by force into history, in the literature and even more in the fantasy world of all ages.
Yashka has not yet lost the habit of nibbling on everything that falls into his field of vision, so all objects that he may like have to be raised as high as possible from the floor. In particular, my house boots lie on the chest of drawers.
Thank you all for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!
My Favorite place to be with camera/flask of tea at moment, have been visiting on and off now for some time and on this particular morning an otter decided to make an appearance up close and personel, gutted I never caught him as he turned up just as the sun was about to break over the ridge, maybe next time.

I used to rule my world from a pay phone
Ships out on the sea
But now times are rough
And I got too much stuff
Can't explain likes of me
But there's this one particular harbour
So far but yet so near
Where I see the days as they fade away
And finally disappear
But now I think about the good times
Down in the caribbean sunshine
In my younger days I was so bad
Laughin' about all the fun we had
I seen enough to feel the world spin
Mixin' different oceans meetin' cousins
Listen to the drummers and the night sounds
Listen to the singers make the world go 'round
I expect there may be many images of snail shells for this theme, so decided to give my snails a rest this week and photograph my cycad house plant that has just put up a few new leaves - all the tiny 'leaflets' have coiled ends when they first appear that will straighten as the leaf grows. On this particular leaf, one of the little leaflets has grown a bit ahead of the others and shown off the lovely details of its coiled end.
For Macro Mondays theme 'Spiral'.
The image was done as a 5-shot focus stack at f3.5, focusing on the tight coil which was 1cm across.
Cold Windy Thursday ...
That particular day in January was probably not the best day to be hiking and taking pictures by the lake.
A strong wind howled across the frozen surface, pulling and pushing us as we walked. It was a real effort to not slip and slide on the icy path.
Just ahead was a stand of trees behind which we could shelter from the wind. We stayed there for several minutes before trudging deeper into the woods; where we knew we would be sheltered from this wintery blast.
Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

This particular Lister Chevrolet appears to be a replica, built by Mark Lewis Design Engineering (a company with serious Lister pedigree, having restored BHL 127 that sold for over half a million dollars in 2013).
The car had been rolled out of the garages into the pitlane while it was warmed up, with it sitting at tickover for quite a while, the V8 adding a marvellous audio soundtrack to the proceedings.

This depth dimension, a “a breadth without breadth, an expanseless expanse,” as Meister Eckhart calls it, is nothing but awareness itself, not an object that we are aware of but the ground of awareness itself.

Cala Fighera is part of a delightful and suggestive short stretch of the Cagliari coast dominated by the promontory of Capo Sant'Elia. Under this huge rock small pebbly beaches are formed, set between fascinating limestone walls, in which the “stacks” stand out, gigantic boulders eroded by atmospheric agents in particular shapes and which give their name to the coves. Continuing along the coast, you will find the beautiful promontory of the Grotta dei Colombi, which borders to the east with the enchanting Cala Fighera.
This beach, about 150 meters in size, can only be reached on foot along a short and steep path; it extends between steep rocky and landslide walls and cliffs, and is surrounded by an interesting vegetation of olive and carob trees. The beach of the cove is made up of large white stones and pebbles, and in the center of it there is an interesting gully.
The sea is a beautiful blue-green, rich in shades, bright and transparent, with a pebbly and rocky seabed full of large outcropping rocks. The beach has a truly remarkable nature, and offers the visitor very original and solitary landscapes that are inhabited by fascinating marine and rapacious birds.
The views offered by the cove are remarkable, and include Capo Sant'Elia, which borders it on its west side, and the Tower of San Filippo. The beach of Cala Fighera is always uncrowded, but it is much loved and known by the inhabitants of Cagliari, who often make it a destination for their walks, such as the nearby beach of Calamosca.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very particular plumage changes occur before a juvenile bald eagle turns into a fully developed adult (a roughly 3 year period). I think this eagle is a pre-adult (2 1/2 years +) . Correct me if I’m wrong - it looks different than all juvenile bald eagles I've seen so far.
The shot was taken at sunset.
The Long Corridor is a covered walkway in the Summer Palace in Beijing, China. The total length of the Long Corridor is 728 metres and it is decorated with more than 14,000 paintings, especially on the ceiling and its beams, which divide it into 273 sections. Along the corridor there are four octagonal pavilions. Each of these pavilions symbolises the four climatic seasons of the year. The more than 14,000 paintings have a wide variety of subjects: historical figures, famous buildings, landscapes, flowers, birds, fish, insects... Of particular importance are those depicting folk and traditional tales, fables and episodes from classical Chinese literature. As a part of the Summer Palace, the Long Corridor was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December, 1998.
There is no doubt that the Long Corridor is a beautiful place during the day. But it is at night, with the arrival of darkness and the lighting of the chinese lanterns, that it reaches its true splendour, creating a special atmosphere and transforming into a long, luminous and sinuous thread in the midst of the darkness. It is at night when it becomes a magical place, where stories, tales, fables, imagination... come to life and arise. Dreams and tales, in the middle of the night and darkness.

Sorria!!!
Continuing with another image from my Colorado trip... This particular time, up Country Road 5 and hiking up to an Aspen grove. I knew I had to shoot this road scene as soon as I saw it. I tried with a 70-200...but it just didn't have the look I wanted, so...a first for me, I pulled out my Bower (Rokinon) 14mm to try a WIDE shot. I can't recall what f-stop I shot it at, but I took 6 shots at different focusing spots to focus stack them in PS. Since I haven't really been able to get out locally for Fall, I'm heading up to the Boone/Blowing Rock area tomorrow evening after work for a couple days. The weather looks to be turning a bit nasty up there tomorrow, but I'm hoping the leaves hang on. Hope everyone's having a great week!
Recently I did a search for a particular keyword in Lightroom and this picture came up. I was surprised to see the hard drive with the Iceland photos from a few years ago still attached to my computer. I am taking this as a sign to look through these and perhaps post some of them before they disappear into my external hard drive mess.
This waterfall here is really insignificant, considering the more famous big waterfalls in Iceland. Perhaps I like it because of that. It's just by the side of the road, nobody else gave it any thought, not worth stopping for. If you are in Iceland. If it was in my neighbourhood here I would visit frequently.
Fall colours in the fields of the Ottawa Valley, near Arnprior, Ontario, Canada. One tree in particular caught my eye; it was a brightly coloured orange maple standing away from the forest along a fence bordering a hay field and a corn field.
This particular ' dragon' had Me scratching my head.. After a few enquiries at the reserve ,who couldn't tell me, I found it in my own book. The long ,thin yellow stigma paved the way to a Keeled Skimmer (Blue form) note the blue thorax, not seen in the UK but mostly in the Southern Med. A new tick for Me.
The cards fell correctly into place this particular Saturday afternoon. New power from Toronto had arrived in Kitchener the night before, and the chances of an all GP9 consist were high. The crew selected these 3 units, put them together, and ran to Stratford with 3 hoppers in tow. I rendezvoused with the train and friends at Stratford, and gave chase after they finished their work there. A trio of GP9s was already fantastic, but here just north of Thorndale the climax of the chase occurred when the skies opened up displaying excellent storm light. Just a mere 100 feet behind us was a pop up downpour that was so close we could feel the mist from it on our backs, but we escaped getting wet luckily. Good power, great light when it counted, and good company from great friends made this one of the best chases so far over my 10 years of rail photography.

This particular scene, while working fine in B/W, appealed to me a bit more in color. The color really takes on a different feel in the nighttime darkness. Not better, just different. So what the heck, another one in color. Also, it joins that short color night time series I started awhile back.

This particular day we had completed what we thought was our hiking itinerary when I made the impulsive decision to travel ten minutes up the road and dump the car at the summit of Hard Knott pass. From there it was just another nine hundred feet of ascent before we reached the summit of the nearby Hard Knott. What can be seen, is our timing was pretty good even if it did mean a decent on the dark. The triangular looking hill in the background is Harter Fell which we had climbed as part of an extended loop earlier in the day.
This image goes back almost eighteen months.
I was out of inspiration as to where to photograph next. CFL1800 and Peter Gootzen kindly let me follow them to the station of Krefeld Linn. Standing on the platform we awaited a few trains - from the expected trains, one would be hauled by a recently repainted Ludmilla engine!
The building on the left of the frame is an old signalling cabin, I think. It seems to be out of service for a while now.

Jungle Cat - Bobcat in the forest. I named this particular cat Ghost because of how elusive she was to track. When I did see her however, she was very bold and would bring her kittens out. I haven't seen her since December 2022, so I assume she passed away or moved on, since her territory was taken over by her offspring.
2022 was a phenomenal year for Bobcat photography for me. I had well over 50 sightings at various locations, many of which provided excellent photographic opportunities. This year has been very slow, and I've only had two sightings since summer, neither of which yielded photos. Hoping we get some winter rain and I can get more sightings!

The need to visit this particular place came to me, while i was studying the cable car railway to the Janikowo soda plant. When tracing its route going from Janikowo we first see the station, where carts were separated between Inowrocław and Janikowo, then it crosses a lake and continues through the fields towards the Bielawy quarry. There is a catch however, as the cable car railway stops some 2 kilometers before the actual quarry/cement plant. How have I not noticed this before?
But the curiosities don't stop there. Naturally the cable cars have to get their load somehow, and to my great surprise and utmost amazement - this is done with a standard railway, which runs here from the cement plant, at a length of around 2,5km. At the end, the wagons are unloaded and the load is transferred to the cable car. Crazy!
I dug deeper. As it turns out, the station is reffered to as K1 (which is why I jokingly call it Masherbrum) and I found many reports of former workers, who talked about the railway on various forums. But... no pictures from here existed! The industry enthusiasts photographed the transloading facility itself, some bus-lovers shot pictures of busses with the station and cable car, which served as a background, but seemingly no railfan has ever step foot here. That made me curious, maybe the train doesn't run in the end? Checking areal photos from the place out of 3 different sources I found around 20 shots taken across the span of the past 15 years. Only around half of them had any traffic on this station, maybe that was why, maybe this doesn't run very often...
Nevertheless, me and a friend of mine from the region embarked on a journey. We came in the morning and... there it was, a train was just unloading on the station! Our excitement was short-lived though, as our car's tire had burst before we even reached it, which stopped us significantly. But no matter. It turns out that the train had been here for the rest of the day. It looks as if they only unloaded one wagon each hour (or even fewer). I think the train comes here only every 2 days and stays here for unloading.
To connect all the dots, as in the title, I need to add on another bit of information, which was also very interesting to me. The reports of workers, which I had mentioned earlier talk about EL2 locomotives being used to bring the cargo wagons here. Sure enough, one of the former catenary pylons is hiding just behind the locomotive on this picture, as the train is leaving K1 towards the quarry, headed by SM42-2083. Some of the pylons even retained their original designations and each one of them is marked with the designation "K1". I think this is the first picture published on the internet, which features this place and a train.
One last thing are the wagons. They are only used on this line and they are made up of the type 41W, which were manufactured in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski (1952-1959) and Wrocław (1960-1964). The factories each had their own little details on carriages and this helped me determine that both the producers supplied the wagons to this industrial railway. My rough estimate is that the plant currently has around 100 such wagons in use, and they only are used for internal transports to K1.
I hope you enjoyed the trillogy about Wapienno's internal railways.

Emerald Eyes II - I have been following this particular Bobcat for almost 2 years now and have had the fortune of photographing her beautiful kitten last year. I was afraid that she had moved on due to some trail maintenance - but was thrilled to find her again after several months recently.
I have noticed that some Bobcats have yellow-orange eyes and some have green eyes. This particular cat has beautiful light green eyes and I was really glad to capture them well here. A problem I had with DSLRs was losing the focus on the eye and catching a different part of the face or body when close to subjects. The animal eye AF of the R5 has really been a game-changer for low light Bobcat images for me. It helps me focus on composition, and seems to lock onto their eyes so effectively that I don't even have to think twice about focus. It also seems to help that Bobcats have large, light colored eyes which the system seems to like.
The silent electronic shutter also seemed to help as this particular cat is on the shyer side so I was very thrilled to be able to capture her filling the frame at 371mm! On the flip side, that tends to mean a lot of frames to sort through so it took me a while to find this perfect pose. Very excited to see and capture more of this beautiful cat.

This is a flower that I picked from the garden yesterday and then brought inside to photograph where it's easier to control the light.
The main light was a Yongnuo Manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box on a light stand at camera left. Fill light came from a mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1900 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/albums/72157628079460544

With no particular plan and not knowing any spots we just drove north exploring along the way until we finally found a spot we liked and decided to hang out. This tiny little community is tucked in the valley of Sallisaw Creek surrounded by the rolling Cookson Hills. The wide pastureland, lazy cows, and classic red barn made for a peaceful and bucolic scene. We had a rather long wait and nearly dozed off waiting on a train here. We shot the DP units on our same coal train here and then hung around till a southbound showed up which we followed back south with our eye on a chase up Rich Mountain in the evening.
Here again is the BNSF/KCS GE duo on the hind end of the CTXKC 03 empty coal train. They are seen here just after clearing the S. 4641 Rd. crossing at about MP 271.6 on KCS' Heavener Sub.
