Facade of one of the ancient buildings in the Schnoor quarter. This particular building dates to 1631.

The inscription on the lintel reads: "AN GOTTES SEGEN IS ALES GELEGEN 1631" (roughly: "All depends on God's blessing")

The Schnoor quarter is the oldest documented quarter of Bremen and it has largely preserved its medieval character.

First mentioned in the 13th century. The two oldest remaining buildings are from 1401 and 1402 respectively. Some buildings are just remaining facades or have been relocated from other locations.

You might wonder about the title. Well, what you see in the photo is the river Spree taking one of its many bends across Berlin, and this particular area that you can see on the opposite river bank is also called "Spree-Bogen", "Spree bend". This area used to be the home of the Meierei C. Bolle (dairy farm C. Bolle) that was founded in 1879 during one of Berlins particularly strong periods of growth. The two glass towers belong to an U-shaped building ensemble that was the (rented!) seat of our Federal Ministry of the Interior from 1999 - 2015.

This is one of the images that needed time to "develop". I've tried several different processing approaches over the past months, and I was never really happy with any of the results, because I always found the sky too blue, the image too bright, the clouds not nice enough... I once even replaced the sky in Luminar, but didn't like that, either. So back to the original sky, and just the other day, when I gave it another go, I finally stumbled upon the solution. In a first new version I had processed the image in HDR Efex, kind of liked it, but still found the image too bright. Just for fun, and for comparison purposes, I decided to also process the image in Aurora HDR, tried a few of my favourite presets that I use as starting point in Aurora, and... Bingo! In the "Dramatic" preset collection, there's a preset called "Sleepy Drama" which desaturates the blue tones and adds a darker look to any image – and that did it, at least for me. I still tweaked the preset's settings to my liking, and, in Color Efex, added some Brilliance and Warmth. I hope you like the image :)

Happy Sliders Sunday, stay safe and healthy, and take care!

By using ND Filters in the exposure for this particular capture, this enables us to create these Ethereal/Beautiful Images! Shot from the popular coastal town of Barmouth, West Wales, United Kingdom!

This particular morning at Amroth there were gorgeous colours for a few minutes about 55 mins before dawn, they died down and then really came back strong later. This is the early colour.

Had fun playing with some new filters for this one. Has a very tropical feel so I had to put a jimmy Buffett Song to it, Always a Florida girl even if I'm stuck in the desert.

I used to rule my world from a pay phone

Ships out on the sea

But now times are rough

And I got too much stuff

Can't explain likes of me

But there's this one particular harbour

So far but yet so near

Where I see the days as they fade away

And finally disappear

But now I think about the good times

Down in the caribbean sunshine

In my younger days I was so bad

Laughin' about all the fun we had

I seen enough to feel the world spin

Mixin' different oceans meetin' cousins

Listen to the drummers and the night sounds

Listen to the singers make the world go 'round

The Egyptian goose is native to Sub-Saharan Africa and the Nile Valley, where it is widespread and common. In fact, I saw plenty of Egyptian Geese at the watering holes located throughout Etosha National Park in Namibia.

Nevertheless, due of their popularity chiefly as an ornamental bird, the species has also been introduced to Europe, the United States and elsewhere outside their natural range.

This particular individual was captured flying above the Main River in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where an urban park running along both banks of the river provide these wild birds with a year-round, all-you-can-but, buffet of fresh grasses and seeds.

Image taken near TWEE RIVIEREN

The last 2 days of our trip were cloudy and the very particular landscapes of the Kalahari desert where the red-orange sand of the dunes contrasts wonderfully with the azure blue of the sky, seemed different: all the tones, yellow, red, green ...seemed exacerbated, more beautiful! So we stopped to photograph animals which usually did not necessarily hold our attention like this male ostrich which seemed to pose for us!

I may quite possibly be the proudest of this particular photograph out of nearly all of them. This guy was taken the very last day of a Yellowstone workshop. We were all on our way back to the hotel, and I happened to glance off to my right, right next to a road, and there were two brown lumps in the snow. I got my dad to drive down the road, and.. lo and behold... moose! Two moose, in fact! One male and one female. They were so close to the car, i'm amazed that us being there didn't bother them. However, it was so very, very worth it in this awesome photograph.

Second Life's 18th Birthday Bonanza will run from June 17th - July 1st. Be sure to drop in to my "One Particular Harbor" display and take home some "merch" as they say. Until then, be where the wind and water are free!

Eurasian Jays have very particular and interesting behaviours, and some of them make them excellent forest gardeners.

Examples include the use of gifts provided by males for females in mating rituals. This behaviour is performed by a few species. In most cases, it means that the species understands the desires of other individuals, which is quite complicated.

Their most important and interesting behaviour is their ability to store seeds, especially acorns or nuts. They do this to prepare themselves for the cold season and the harsh months that await them.

Experts suspect that this behaviour may be much more complicated than it seems. They proved, through different experiments, that the Eurasian Jay’s habit of keeping food is due to its ability to plan for the future, something experts thought that only humans could do.

This behaviour is what makes it a very important animal for our forests. In many cases, these birds don’t consume all their stores, or they just forget about them.

Thus, the seeds germinate and the forests expand as they move these heavy nuts and seeds, which can hardly be spread otherwise.

This is one of the several trails at the wonderful property at Torrey Pines, California. This particular trail leads you down to a viewing point hundreds of feet above the Pacific Ocean and the beach below. The terrain in the area is very desert-like.

Mont d'Hermone is a worthwhile mountain with no particular difficulties and beautiful panoramic views over the Chablais region (France).

The Dent d'Oche (Haute-Savoie - France) was formerly known as the Dent d'Houche. The teme Oche designates an indentation or notch, whether in Chablais dialect (ouche), Old French (osche), Prelatin (osco) or Vulgar Latin (coccia), and refers to the Col de Planchamp, which forms an indentation between the Dent d'Oche and the Château d'Oche.

This particular hare is almost always found in exactly the same spot, and normally dashes away when first seen. On this day, I was especially still, and it approached and calmly carried on with its breakfast, until a passing vehicle sent it rocketing off into the safety of the crops again.

Passengers aboard the shuttle (S) train. This particular shuttle train runs between 42nd St and Times Square (westside) and Grand Central Station (east side). The ride is only 90 seconds long, the shortest in the entire subway system.I don't know exactly when advertisement of this nature began on train, but it's around awhile. What you see in the interior of the train is also on the exterior.

This particular ibis is a medium-sized bird with an overall white plumage, bright red-orange down-curved bill and long legs, and black wing tips that are usually only visible in flight. Males are larger and have longer bills than females.

Their diet consists primarily of small aquatic prey, such as insects and small fishes. During the breeding season, the American white ibis gathers in huge colonies near water.

Another picture shot from my second home, ‘Albert Square, Manchester’. On this particular day the sun was very bright giving really dark shadows and extremely bright highlights, but to be honest I quite like that…!

This particular group spends most winter days chasing each other and fishing along the rocks at the ocean.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan has several lighthouses. This particular one is a 1.5 mile hike from the parking lot. The day we were there, the parks were giving free tours of the buildings. We didn't take the tour as we were busy waiting for everyone to get out of the picture.

The Au Sable Light Station was originally called the Big Sable Light Station. The name was changed in May 1910 to conform to its geographic location on Lake Superior. The term Au Sable is French for “with sand”, presumably named by early European explorers. At least as early as 1622, when Pierre Esprit Radisson called it “most dangerous when there is any storms,” Au Sable Point was recognized as a hazard to Lake Superior mariners. When lake traffic began to boom in the middle of the nineteenth century with the opening of the Soo Canal (1855), the reef at Au Sable Point was particularly dangerous. Unless warned off, vessels could become victim to this reef of Jacobsville Sandstone which, in some places, lies only a few feet below the surface.

Continuing with another image from my Colorado trip... This particular time, up Country Road 5 and hiking up to an Aspen grove. I knew I had to shoot this road scene as soon as I saw it. I tried with a 70-200...but it just didn't have the look I wanted, so...a first for me, I pulled out my Bower (Rokinon) 14mm to try a WIDE shot. I can't recall what f-stop I shot it at, but I took 6 shots at different focusing spots to focus stack them in PS. Since I haven't really been able to get out locally for Fall, I'm heading up to the Boone/Blowing Rock area tomorrow evening after work for a couple days. The weather looks to be turning a bit nasty up there tomorrow, but I'm hoping the leaves hang on. Hope everyone's having a great week!

Recently I did a search for a particular keyword in Lightroom and this picture came up. I was surprised to see the hard drive with the Iceland photos from a few years ago still attached to my computer. I am taking this as a sign to look through these and perhaps post some of them before they disappear into my external hard drive mess.

This waterfall here is really insignificant, considering the more famous big waterfalls in Iceland. Perhaps I like it because of that. It's just by the side of the road, nobody else gave it any thought, not worth stopping for. If you are in Iceland. If it was in my neighbourhood here I would visit frequently.

I have rarely been disappointed with photos I've taken at Reed Canal Park. The sunsets are usually fabulous, and the fountain adds extra interest. On this particular day, some gorgeous clouds were thrown into the mix.

A second look. The first image of this building (earlier posting) was taken a few days after it had snowed. This particular day it was snowing.

After getting shut out at Glacier Point for a number of years, I was finally rewarded with some great light on my last visit. I started shooting as soon as the first bit of color stole across the sky and eventually the entire Western end of the valley was lit up. The irony here was that I was hoping there would be few to no clouds on this particular trip as I was there to shoot the Milky Way, along with quite a few other photographers. As I set up my tripod, I overheard a park ranger giving a lecture behind me on where the Milky Way WOULD be if you could, in fact, see it. I was starting to feel pretty depressed at this point as I had made multiple trips to Glacier point without much to show for it. Two summers ago I was smoked out by a huge fire, last year too many clouds for the Milky Way, and multiple trips in between with no sunset or sunrise. As I stared sulkingly off into the horizon, I noticed a faint bit of color in the clouds. Within just a few minutes the entire sky had lit up and the poor ranger was left with only a handful of people as the crowd moved en masse to the railing and began shooting like mad.

The Milky Way was a no show that night, but at least I walked away with my first decent sunset at Glaicer Point in four years. I'll be headed back to try the Milky Way at least one more time this year, so fingers crossed!

This particular scene, while working fine in B/W, appealed to me a bit more in color. The color really takes on a different feel in the nighttime darkness. Not better, just different. So what the heck, another one in color. Also, it joins that short color night time series I started awhile back.

This particular Camaro Z28 is the original car that took pole position at Spa in 1981, driven by Reine Wisell, Claude Bourgoignie and John Cooper.

The car was located in Italy by David Clark, who acquired the car and brought it over to the UK for a sympathetic restoration.

The Bastos livery is certainly an attention grabber, and one that appears on a number of touring cars of that period.

The start of an average day in a medieval farming village, as the farmers go off to work in the fields...

My second entry into the CCC this year for the Village Life category. This build took almost a month to finish, which is considerably longer than I was expecting. I would also like to say thanks to all the builders that helped me out with WIPs while I was working on this, and especially to The Maestro for his help with the corner of the tudor building and inspiration for fence and wheat techniques.

This particular stream in Tower Grove Park does not always have water, but when it does it's a real magnet for migrants. I think there was a lineup of kinglets in the surrounding trees waiting to come down and bathe-- no sooner would one leave than another would come and take its place.
