From Boston, Massachusetts

Located on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Paramount Theater operated as a movie theater from 1931 to 1974, reopening in 2004 to present live art performances as well as films. There are a number of other shots of the theater on my photostream, but I decided to add this one as well.

Seen in the outdoor part of the commercial section of the Motor Show at Birmingham NEC in October 1986 is this very early Plaxton Paramount III demonstrator built on a Bedford chassis.

The Paramount Ballroom, also known as Paramount Theatre (Chinese 百樂門 Bǎilèmén) is a prime example of preserved Art Deco architecture in Shanghai. The Chinese name means roughly "Gate to 100 Pleasures"...

It was completed in 1933, designed by the Chinese architect Yang Xiliu. It lay just off Bubbling Well Road (now Nanjing West Road) and was a meeting place for the wealthy elite of the Shanghai society - and also the elite of Shanghai's underworld. The most famous of old Shanghai's late night hangouts with music into the morning and drinks flowing freely.

The Ballroom lasted under its original owners before going bankrupt in 1936. In 1937 it was converted into a taxi dance hall featuring Chinese dance hostesses, which it remained until 1949.

Closed at the revolution, it was re-opened in 1956 as "Red Capitol Cinema" featuring the usual propanda movies. Again closed in the Cultural Revolution it became defunct and dilapidated.

In 2001 it was restored by Taiwanese investors and re-opened as ballroom. Due to lack of revenue some floors were converted into a disco in 2006 and only the forth floor ballroom remains in original style.

Five months after containment of the Woolsey Fire

Almost every one of these pinchusion flowers had one of these caterpillars on it. Both fire and rain have contributed to the enormous number of flowers and insects that are populating the burn zone...many more than I saw even before the fire.

Motion Picture News, January 12, 1929:

"The proscenium arch, an elaborately decorated frame for the pictures presented on stage and screen at the Brooklyn Paramount.

"This auditorium numbers among its unusual features a suggestion of the atmospheric in the open lattice treatment of the main ceiling and the sidewall reveals."

this sign is irresistible, and i'm sure it's been photographed a thousand times, often much better. what i like about it is that it even catches your eye during the daytime, and on a dreary morning like this was, the paramount sign's colors can put a little pep in your step

Long a landmark on Kelowna's main downtown street, the Paramount theatre is no more.

Steveston Harbour is the largest commercial fishing harbour in Canada. Steveston Harbour is located on the south arm of the Fraser River at the south end of Richmond, BC and is composed of two main sites: Paramount and Gulf.

The Paramount site extends from the south foot of No. 2 Road to the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site and is the main industrial area of the harbour, offering a plethora of on site services.

The Gulf site is located between No. 1 Road and Garry Point Park and consists of a combination of working docks, shops, restaurants, and gear storage facilities.

The Paramount Theatre, also known as the Paramount Arts Center, is located in Aurora, Illinois. It was designed by Rapp and Rapp in the Art Deco style with Venetian elements, and opened in 1931. Over the years, it has hosted films, plays, musicals, concerts, comedy shows, and other acts. It has been extensively renovated and restored, with great attention to maintaining historical accuracy in the beautiful auditorium.

What appears to be an abandoned saloon in a ghost town is actually a building on the Paramount Ranch, now part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in southern California. The Paramount Ranch has been used in a number of movies and TV shows over the years.
