Still Praying for Japan
I don't really know the exact translation of the Japanese text but it's somewhere along the lines of "Good luck!"
And yee we made paper cranes in class today for some organization that is willing to donate $2.00 for every paper crane folded. I forgot the name of the organization but I can get back to all of you regarding the organization and hopefully we all can contribute! :]
---------
So today I payed attention during announcements today [heh.. got scolded at my math teacher] but I heard that the Organization that all these cranes from our school is going to is called Architecture for Humanity. Here is a link regarding their efforts to help contribute, as well as how you can help!~
What do owls have to do with Mother's Day? Well, nothing of course, but I saw a similar design a while back and decided to give it a go.
While I do think they turned out cute, there are definitely changes I'll make if I decide to try them again.
A rather gothic scene. The kids got the plastic skull free with a magazine years ago. 30 sec @ f16 Harman direct positive paper. Flipped in Photoshop (since the writing on the bottle is reversed in the original), otherwise unedited. Nasty light leak down the middle, which I actually quite like. Not sure whether this is due to leaky darkroom or leaky plate holder. More testing required...

The "Briarwood" 3D paper typeface was created at a font workshop at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Quite a rare opportunity to see this container train coming on the branchline from Grycksbo to Falun in the middle of Sweden. It loads paper in containers, and the branchline was just refurbished and re-activated in 2003. It is also one of the few places where you can see the V5 shunter engines pulling a train on an open route.
Unfortunately, the line was now closed on 21st March 2009, as the owner of the paper mill (the only customer alongside the line) changed. The new company states that the new transport route would be more environmentally friendly. With that, the trucks would go to Norrköping instead, where the paper products are unloaded and put on trains: www.dt.se/nyheter/falun/article413227.ece#

The finest the world has to offer!
I got this box of paper when I bought the Epic! Film! Stash! on ebay a few months ago, but hadn't gotten around to testing it until today. As you can see, there are copious notes written on the box. The original owner seemed a little down on the paper because of how slow it is, but I love it! Of course, I'm using it with a contact printed instead of under the enlarger. I can see how that would drive someone a little crazy.
Anyway! I cut a few sheets of the paper down to 4x5, and used them to make some contact prints of ortho lith negatives today. Exposure times in my little Kodacraft contact printer (with 15 watt bulb) ran around 4-5 seconds. The prints? Are awesome. I love this paper! It *is* the finest the world has to offer!
Wasps sitting on guard top of the fence outside of their active nest under the fence capping. There is a limit to how close you can get, then you can be in trouble. I am not aware of anyone who has had an allergic reaction to these other than a burning sensation that lasts from 10 mins to a couple of days.

Shot at the Oakland Museum of Modern Art. Props to the artist who handmade all those paper cranes (unfortunately I don't know his/her name).
The shadows weren't really part of the piece, but they looked awesome.

I went on playing with the Sepp's star and came to this star globe.
It's made of 30 paper strips, 2:5
For coloring I used special pens I bought at the local discount shop. They are called "Blo Pens" - no, I didn't forget the "w". These are ordinary felt pens, which you can put in a kind of blow pipe, to gain an effect close to airbrush.
Made from a 50-yard roll of 10-square, lime-green, military grade graph paper and lined with tracing paper from a 20-yard roll of light-orange, 5-square, military-grade graph paper :)
