Spearheads Tessellation
backlit
Another older concept, although this one required a bit of new design work to finalize. Everything has to be precreased, which is really time-consuming, but the result is really interesting on both sides. I thought that the diagonal molecules look a bit like spearheads, hence the name.
32x32 grid.
Designed by me.
Folded out of an uncut 12" square of tant paper.
Paper airplane replicas of world record flight duration holders. Left is Delta Belter (20.9 seconds) by Andy Currey, center is the current (as of 2007) record holder (27.6 seconds) by Ken Blackburn and right is White Flyer (20.9 seconds) by Chris Edge.
I built the Delta Belter and White Flyer according to templates included in Ultimate Flying Paper Planes by Andy Chipling. I built Ken Blackburn's plane using a template from Airplane Collectable Net Resource.

A 19" square makes a 6 3/4" square model! I really want to make a much larger one but it will be hard to find a really big piece of paper - I think maybe 40 inches square will make about a 14-inch model ?

Twelve of them, printed out on nice paper with handmade quills and inkpots (I'm an English Writing major)
Woven Dodecahedron. Made this about a decade ago. Recently, while searching for something, I stumbled upon it. Made with 6 strips of paper with 60-degree creases. Diagrams can be found in Brilliant Origami by David Brill.

I really like models that make the impression they have holes in them.
Folded from an uncut square of 15 cm on the side of Parra paper.

May make these in ceramic. I don't usually anthropomorphize my art, but just couldn't resist in this case. These wouldn't be too hard to make in clay.

Notes: Fratelli Alinari is the longest running, oldest photographic firm started by brothers Giuseppe, Leopoldo and Giuseppe Alinari in 1852. Early on the brothers ran the business and made the views building a remarkable collection of period images. Over time they engaged the talents of many different photographers. Located in Florence they are still very much in business and said to have a photo archive of over 3.5 million images.
Antonio Canova (1 November 1757 – 13 October 1822) was an Italian Neoclassical sculptor, famous for his marble sculptures. Often regarded as the greatest of the Neoclassical artists, his artwork was inspired by the Baroque and the classical revival, but avoided the melodramatics of the former, and the cold artificiality of the latter. The story of two boxers “Creugas” and “Damosseno” is told by Pausanias: during the Nemean games, having sustained the match more than expected, the fighters agreed to hit each other by imposing a single hit at a time.
Creugas of Durres (Albania) was pierced by the hand that Damosseno of Syracuse sank in his opponent's belly for the hardness of his sharp nails. Removing his hand pulled out the entrails and killed Creugas. The hits, however, were considered to be technically two and Damosseno was disqualified.
They belonged, due to the cruel nature of the subject, as Hercules and Lichas, to the 'terribile' series of heroic neoclassicism, that, in the sublime representation of dramatic events, allowed to explore, to the ends dictated by the respect of the classical expression, exasperated nudes and faces loaded with tension.

Valentine's gifts all wrapped up! Aren't these Whimsy Paper wrapping sheets with the space invader things fun? And I adore that plaid paper. I've used it for practically every occasion (Christmas, b-days, baby showers) and it always looks right.
Last week I received this wonderful photo from a 4th grade class in Royalton, Minnesota. Their teacher, Erin, had tried out my Picasso Paper Bag Costume project with her entire class and agreed to share her results. Are these a bunch of cute and creative kids or what? I love all the colorful faces and the animated posing too, it really makes for a wonderful photo. Thanks kids, for letting me share your art with my readers.
