I held a series of three sessions at KPF NY demonstrating severals ways to transform a flat single sheet of paper into a complex form. I demonstrated folds that used both standard origami techniques (square paper, no cutting) and more modern approaches (laser-cut and -scored curves). The square forms date back to the Bauhaus movement and I was inspired by the work I did for Erik and Marty Demaine when choosing the shapes of the curved forms. Special thanks also to Alex Soijka who helped with the video.

Ahahaha Finally I got it :}

What do owls have to do with Mother's Day? Well, nothing of course, but I saw a similar design a while back and decided to give it a go.

While I do think they turned out cute, there are definitely changes I'll make if I decide to try them again.

Easy to fold model,though somewhat frustrating to get the right size strips.

This is a double page from the pop-up book, Fairies and Magical Creatures by Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda. There are 5 pop-ups, but they were rather confusing when they were all open at once. Besides the griffin, there's Barong Ket from Bali, a phoenix and a hae tae from Korea.

"Strawboard" and then various kinds of paper and pulp were made and recycled on this site between the 1890s and the 1990s. The Kieffer Paper Mill was finally demolished after the turn of the century.

Bracelet is made from an old book, plastic and recycled chain and findings.

Playing with 3-dimensionality. Besides, why make one sliceform when you can make four? :)

Striped Japanese paper was arranged in one row.

Looking for a book to save paper samples. This one was pretty easy to make - it's an accordion folded strip of paper. I put double stick tape between the folds on one side, leaving the other side free so I can glue on my sample. I put a museum board cover on this one. I think this would work better for my needs.

I like this geometric folds from an uncut square and that hold together without the use of glue

I found a local art shop which carried practically everything an artist would need, including various types of paper. I bought 8 sheets of mulberry tissue paper in green, brown, red and yellow, plus a roll of very thin japanese paper (not sure what it's called). My happiness quotient was off the charts when I found this shop!

Sometimes when you let yourself go past the place when you think you might stop... when it is tasteful and pretty... you have a lot of fun and end up with something you hadn't dreamed of.

I love chickens and roosters so thought this paper pieced chicken would be so cute in my kitchen. My husband, (who was watching Deadliest Catch at the moment) thought it was a sinking ship). Does she look like a chicen? I was thinking a whole quilt of red and white chickens would be fun. But not if it doesn't really look like a chicken.

I made this paper as a base for a book I want to construct. It's acrylic on paper and the paper will be cut in four pieces to make 8 pages of a ringbound book. Feel free to use the paper in your art or alter it digitally. Enjoy!
