A transparent paper is great for tessellation, but about all other origami types? Read all about it in The Fold:

My book finally arrived and it has some great models in it. This is the first one I folded from a square of 15 com on the side of ordinary paper.
This time we test a paper from Italy. It is named after a painter for painters, but is it good for origami, too?

I had come up with a tato a while ago. On Saturday during an origami meeting I thought of boxifying it and this came up.
I thought the ornament at the top looked like a maltese cross, but it isn't. Thanks to Oschene I got the name right now.
Everytime I teach a model based on an octagon, when I show how to do the 22.5° division, there is at least one person in the class that mistakenly takes one of the bottom corners and places it over the middle of the top side. Everytime it happened, I said "one of these days I am going to use that reference to create something" and so I did recently.
By just reversing two creases on each corner, you get the previous model on my photostream.
Folded from a square of Arjo Wiggins of 20 cm on the side.
This model is from Tomoko Fuse's Unit Origami Fantasy book.
The paper I used is from a craft pad intended for creatures and critters :D but I used it for a modular origami instead ...now I'm reminded of quilts.....and of sleeping :-)

When making notes for genealogy I enjoy my vast collection of color ink pens. When I change sources or persons being researched I reach in and grab another color to make the notes.

I folded this model during OUSA07 in a class by Chris himslef that lasted until 2:30 am. I had uploaded a picture of the model taken that same day but I think it deserves a better picture.
This is the most beautiful box and the most difficult I've ever seen. Until now I hadn't had the courage to unfold it to try to replicate it, but after I was able to reproduce a box I had accidentally created trying to replicate this one from memory (that I hand't had the courage either to unfold it), I felt bold and unfolded this one. I wanted to have a picture just in case I wasn't able to refold it or that it damaged during the unfolding process and here it is.
After several hours of trying I finally was able to put all those creases in place and reproduce it, pictures coming when I have the time to fold it from good paper.

Unfold everything and make sure that the creases that form the hexagon at the center and the creases that radiate from it are mountains..

Artisan Series Tetrahedron 12 units
3-fold view.
I thought of this idea more than 3 years ago, and just recently thought about it again, and brought it back to life. An octahedral, icosahedral, cubic, and dodecahedral version will follow in the coming months. Here curved edge units are used, instead of crimps, which wouldn't be practical here. The result is very floral and artsy, hence the name, and there will be a whole series of them. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned.
Designed by me.
Folded out of American foil paper. (The only paper that would be perfect for this type of model.)

I originally wasn't going to make any noise about this, but the first time I took it out the cashier at the grocery store said, "Oh, wow, that's cool" so … it must be cool, right? Checkout girls are the arbiters of cool, right?
I've been thinking about replacing my wallet for a while. I did not, however, go searching for instructions on how to fold a paper wallet, they found me. I just read them and thought, "I have a big unused roll of Kraft paper so why not?" and then a few minutes later the new wallet was mine.
I read through these instructibles and once I had my materials together I mainly used this Howcast as a refresher.
Unfortunately I won't get a chance to truly let this one wear out, because not more than ten minutes after I finished this wallet I found online the perfect wallet for me and ordered it. I can't say more about that right now, though, but hopefully later.
(p.s. on a whim I totally made a second one out of regular printer paper and it is not nearly so nice-feeling. there's something intrinsically pleasant about Kraft paper - maybe it is because it is usually found in the form of grocery bags, and food is good. i don't know.)
