The Jvari Pass, also known as the Cross Pass, is a mountain pass in the Greater Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. It is located at an elevation of approximately 2,379 meters above sea level and is one of the most iconic locations along the historic Georgian Military Road, a major communication route connecting Tbilisi with Vladikavkaz in Russia. The Jvari Pass offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and rivers. The landscape changes throughout the seasons, with green meadows in summer and snow-capped peaks in winter. The nearby Gudauri ski resort lies on the southern side of the pass and is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The pass has a rich history and was a strategic passage for trade, troops, and travelers for centuries. It is named after the Georgian word Jvari, meaning cross, referring to the ancient crosses that were placed along the route. The Tergi River rises near the pass and flows through the Darial Gorge. Glaciers and spectacular waterfalls can also be found in the area. During the winter months, the pass can be impassable due to heavy snowfall, but in the summer it is a popular route for tourists and adventurers. Hiking and trekking opportunities: The area around the pass offers numerous opportunities for trekking and photography. The Travertine Natural Monument is located by the roadside, making it an easy and scenic stop for visitors traveling to Gudauri or Jvari Pass. Travertine is a type of limestone that forms from mineral springs, especially those with high calcium content. Over thousands of years, the mineral-rich water flowing from the springs has left colorful deposits, creating the striking layered formations seen today.

The Travertine Natural Monument, also known as the Mineral Springs Travertine, is a fascinating natural landmark in Georgia. It is located near the Jvari Pass along the Georgian Military Road, close to the Gudauri ski resort. This unique site is notable for its vibrant orange and yellow rock formations, created by the deposition of calcium carbonate from mineral-rich springs. Travertine is a type of limestone that forms from mineral springs, especially those with high calcium content. Over thousands of years, the mineral-rich water flowing from the springs has left colorful deposits, creating the striking layered formations seen today. The orange, yellow, and reddish hues of the travertine are caused by iron and other minerals in the water. These colors contrast beautifully with the surrounding snow in winter. The monument is a testament to the geological processes that have shaped the Caucasus region over millions of years.

El Albaicín/Andalucía/Spain (The Alhambra, (Red Castle), on the top of the hill of al-Sabika, has a strategic position, which dominates the entire city, suggests that buildings existed before the arrival of Muslims.

Its complex, completely walled, has an irregular shape limited and there is evidence of it for the first time in the ninth century, when in 889 Sawwar ben Hamdun had to take refuge in the Alcazaba and repair it due to the civil strife that hit the Cordovan Caliphate, to which Granada belonged. Later, this enclosure began to expand and to be populated, although not until what would be later, since the first zirid monarchs fixed their residence in what later would be the Albaicín.

Despite the addition of the Alhambra castle to the city walls in the 11th century, which made it a military fortress from which the entire city was dominated, it was not until the 13th century with the arrival of the first monarch nazarí, Mohamed ben Al-Hamar (Mohamed I, 1238-1273) when the royal residence would be established in the Alhambra. This fact marked the beginning of its period of greatest splendor...)

Trentemoult is located in a former island group: the Rezé islands, surrounded to the north by the Loire and to the south by the Seil. The filling of the latter put an end to this insularity. According to tradition, the village owes its name to a warlike feat which took place during the siege of Nantes by the Normans in the 9th century: thirty brave men fought against men from the North. Less epic but perhaps more credible, "Trentemoult" could also come from "thirty moux" that is to say thirty mounds.

Standing on the western edge of County Clare, the Cliffs of Moher form a 14-kilometer wall against the Atlantic Ocean. At their highest point, they rise more than 200 meters — the height of a 60-story building — carved by wind, waves, and the steady work of time. To the south, the cliffs look across the wide mouth of the Shannon Estuary toward the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, some 50 to 60 kilometers away. To the north, the rock line fades into Galway Bay and the stark limestone plateau of the Burren. The Cliffs of Moher stand almost like a natural divide between these two worlds — the rich pastures of Kerry to the south and the stony landscapes of Clare and Galway to the north. On this day, heavy clouds drifted across the sky, opening pockets of light that swept over the cliffs, the sea, and the distant peninsula. Here, Ireland shows both its raw power and its quiet beauty.

Passage to Juneau, Alaska....taken during the Alaska Hubbard Glacier Cruise

This is the first time I've ever been on a cruise. It is a round trip departing from Vancouver to Alaska and back. Hubbard Glacier is the highlight of the cruise and overwhelming sceneries can be seen throughout the passage. Thoroughly enjoyed it:-)

Built in 1891, the Traverse City Opera House became the city's first pubic building with electricity. It closed in 1920, but the 1200-seat Victorian-style auditorium has been restored and is still used for performances.

It is a Michigan Registered Historic Site.

A view over the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye. A place you have to visit, if you are there. In opposite to the forecast, the sun comes out for us. But extremely heavy winds (round about 40 knots, all ferries from Mallaig were canceled) made it sometimes impossible to have sharp shots. Not to mention any kind of long time exposure.

No we´re heading to our next destination near Inverness.

Few cities in the world capture the imagination as much as Bangkok. Ornate palaces that host royal processions, Buddhist temples that witness monks chanting ancient temples, canals that lead to a maze of water markets, night bazaars that never sleep - have long proved a powerful magnet for travelers. In this sprawling metropolis, Banyan Tree Bangkok, a 5-star luxury hotel in Sathorn road, offers a spectacular rooftop restaurant and bar - Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar on the elevated 61th floor. The hostess Suritawa welcomes us with the hospitality Thailand is famous for. The greater Bangkok area has a population over 14 million. This has in turn shifted the country from being a rather homogeneous Thai population to an increasingly vibrant mix of Western, Indian and Chinese people, giving the city a cosmopolitan status. Bangkok is known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon. The ceremonial name translates it to The city of angels.

Vertigo & Moon rooftop bar at Banyan Tree Bangkok is located on the 61st floor, offering an outstanding 360-degree view of the Bangkok skyline and its surroundings. It is a double setting, where the restaurant part is called Vertigo and the bar is called Moon Bar. Opening hours: 6.30pm - 11pm (weather permitting). It's one of the best bars in the world!

These beautiful hexagonal basalt rock columns are located next to the eastern dam of High Island Reservoir in Sai Kung, Hong Kong. There is an interesting “S” shaped pattern in the middle, which is quite unique. The "S" shaped section has been featured in the 2014 HK$ 1.7 postage stamp. The diameters of these columns range from 1.2 m to 3 m. The location is accessible from Man Yee Road.

View from Passo Giau towards Cortina d'Ampezzo with a lot of well known mountain peaks like Nuvolau and Tofane at the left, Hohe Gaisl/Croda Rossa and Cristallo di Mezzo far away in the middle and (less known) Ponta Lastoi da Formin on the right.

That morning I originally planned to visit a mountain lake near Cortina d'Ampezzo. When I am on a photo-trip, I usually go spotting in advance. For once I trusted a local person who told me, that it is possible to drive by car near to that lake. I ended at a closed barrier at the beginning of the small road which leads up to the mountain. It began to dawn and I was down in the valley in the middle of a dark forest. Good and quick ideas were needed. I decided to drive to Passo Giau. After a sporty drive I arrived there just at the last minute to capture the red sky of that beautiful morning. A hectic but in the end lucky start into the day. ;-)
