Piz Palü (left, 3901 m) and Piz Bernina (middle right, 4049 m), seen from the Diavolezza viewpoint at almost 3,000 metres above sea level. Located near Bernina Pass, Engadin, Switzerland.
I have been up here many times over the last decades. And, if I compare this picture with those taken before, the most evident and striking change is that the Pers Glacier flowing down from Piz Palü gets smaller and smaller every year due to global warming. And the rate and impacts of climate change have definitively increased over the last years.
You may have noted that some parts of the glaciers are rather brownish than white. This is due to Saharan dust deposited on it.

Paimboeuf comes, it seems, from the Breton "pen" (end) and the Scandinavian "boos" (farm) or according to a legend of "pen bo" (head of an ox, in Breton). You should know that on the islands of the region once lived herds of wild oxen. La Borderie even evokes a citadel, the castle of Warock then of Coratinalen located in a place called Pen Oc'hen which would have evolved into Pen Bo, a name found in the 12th century. Paimboeuf is, in the 12th century, a small hamlet, a simple island wedged between two branches of the Loire, living from fishing, agriculture and livestock, which takes on the importance of a town in the 17th century. The anchorage of Paimboeuf is reported as early as 1483. In the 16th century and 17th century Paimboeuf was considered an island. Louis XIV, in letters patent dating from 1682, designates this place “town or island of Paimboeuf”. In 1650, Paimboeuf became an outer port of Nantes: access to the port of Nantes became more and more difficult, the largest buildings had to anchor in Paimboeuf. The activity of the port of Paimboeuf grew with the rise of triangular trade from Nantes to Africa and the West Indies and a mole was built in 1782. At the end of the 18th century a large number of merchant officers took up residence in Paimboeuf. In 1856, when the basins of Saint-Nazaire opened, the decline of this port began to be today, only, a small artisanal fishing port.

From where I was stood on the Canadian side. Niagara Falls. Looking across to the USA it's that near. You can see people on the viewing decks and casinos and hotels that line the USA side. The Canadian side is similar. I must admit to being really surprised on how large the town of Niagara is. It's amazing and breath taking. So pleased to have seen this wonderful natural wonder of the world. #NiagaraFalls

Clouds made this little slit between the horizont in the sea and these altocumulus, son the Sun could give us his first lights. Clouds are very turbulent up there, it seems like there is unstabillity up there
Perched atop the hill, this majestic medieval castle overlooks the sprawling lands below. It's like stepping back in time, the ancient stones holding echoes of history. As the clouds dance across the sky, the castle stands firm, a testament to the architectural prowess of a bygone era.
The fabulously swerving road into and along Iceland's Westfjords lined for kilometres on end with fences between pastures for mainly Icelandic horses.
Happy Fence Friday!
Still going through so many files for my new website I came across this photo shoot with many unprocessed images. I just had to stop everything and stitch these frames together.
I loved the serenity captured at this crack-of-dawn moment. So peaceful!
This is a panoramic view stitched together from 3 horizontal full-frame captures exposed at 30s ea.
Have a great weekend everyone!

P1060184 - Robber fly with prey
# 074
The Asilidae are the Robber fly family, also called assassin flies. They are powerfully built, bristly flies with a short, stout proboscis enclosing the sharp, sucking hypopharynx.
The name "Robber flies" reflects their notoriously aggressive predatory habits; they feed mainly or exclusively on other insects and as a rule they wait in ambush and catch their prey in flight. (wikipedia)

Glen Coe offers craggy mountains, ancient forest and classical glacial valleys.
Jökulsá á Fjöllum river in Northeast Iceland creates three of the most stunning waterfalls in Iceland: Dettifoss - Europe's mightiest waterfall, Selfoss, another beautiful yet small fall and Aldeyarfoss, a wonder of columnar basalt surrounding a waterfall. The river rushes through a mighty gorge which itself is mainly formed by volcanic columnar basalt. The stretch of the river seen in this image is situated between Dettifoss and Selfoss and the bend makes it look even more beautiful.
