The earliest attestation of this magic square is a grafitto in the ruins of Pompeii. From its origins as a Roman Pagan charm, it made its way into medieval culture as a magical and protective amulet.
And the project has finally started.
I met Scott at Wolf Productions: A Gallery of the Arts in downtown Claremore during the yearly downtown festival, Dickens on the Boulevard. Scott's wife had been doing pottery and was taking a break while Scott got some things set up for her. It had something to do with sanding down the wooden disks that go between the clay and the wheel.
Scott is from Illinois originally. He and his father, who lives in Florida, create Medieval-style weapons for collectors, fairs, and reenactments. He met his wife at the Renaissance Festival at the Castle in Muskogee. She is from SW OK. The 2 travel all around the country together.
I sure hope my portrait skills get better throughout this project. I was tickled to capture his reflection, but he looks a tad out of focus to me.

and she's got red lipstick and a bright pair of shoes
and she's got knee high socks, what to cover a bruise
she's got an old death kit she's been meaning to use
she's got blood in her eyes for you
so you bite on a towel
hope it won't hurt too bad
and she says i like long walks and sci-fi movies
if you're six foot tall and east coast bred
some lonely night we can get together
and i'm gonna tie your wrists with leather
and drill tiny holes into your head.

i've always found a certain resonance with the last couple of lines of this song...

Palindrome #3!
A little slice of pi. Mmmmm...
Here's an FYI: I haven't taken a single math class throughout my entire college career (thanks to the AP exam and quite possibly my major...) and I loved it. Screw you, Asian stereotypes!
And unrelated, but here's a great song I just remembered i had:

Day 202 of the 365 days challenge. (Yay palindromes!)
I have a friend who hates being talked about; if he happens to read this he will be angry at me. Oh well. :D
Last week I mentioned that I have this habit of writing letters that I never send, and also that it's time to change some of my habits. As Chas told me, I have to stop doing the same things and expecting different results. So I'm doing this thing where I'm writing people letters.. and then SENDING them. It's weird and scary and heartbreaking and the best thing I've ever done. My goal is to jettison all of this emotional garbage before the time of year aggravates my PTSD, so I can still be functional and awesome-- and so that, when I move, it will be with a clear heart and clean slate.
The thing I never considered is that, with these letters, when you send them-- people write back! I sent a really scary one last night.. detailing how I'd been hurt and confused by some stuff. My friend wrote back. We ended up having a long talk tonight; he was more honest than I knew him to be capable of being, and at some point when we were talking about scars, I slipped and told him the truth. The real truth, the truth that I kind of use all of my honesty-espousing to hide in plain sight, the painful stuff. And the world didn't end. And I think we're better friends! I've never had that kind of crazy platonic bonding experience with a guy before, and I've had a lot of male friends.
I have some other letters still to write, some hard ("Dear person who has defined all of my interpersonal relationships and been the catalyst for all of my personal growth") and some crazy ("Dear brother who has been deceased for almost 15 years now"), but all will be worth it.
On the other side of awakening is deliverance, right? Right.
Yay! This made Explore!
