This old cafe is named Wani No Niwa' or "Crocodile's Garden." The name in Japanese is a palindrome.

The name is noted at the bottom of the sign in hiragana, and above that the text in katakana and kanji announces that it's a cafe and that they serve a 'handmade' (homemade) lunch.

I forgot to do it this morning 'cause it would have been 1020 10-10 2010, a great palindrome. So for my 10/10/10 project I submit 2010 10 10 2010 instead. As I was at church I had to whip the camera out during the sermon. Hand held (did not want to use the flash) at 1/2sec 400ASA.

If it we going to be a great palindrome I should have done it at 0102 01 10 2010. But then I hadn't given it a thought before now.

I wanted to share one more picture before this palindrome day was over. The moon was bright and shining above us tonight and I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to contribute an evening photo to the 11|11|11 Project.

Thanks to all those who commented on my earlier photo today and welcome to my new Flickr friends! I think it's great how events like this introduce people from half a world away to each other through the art of photography. I look forward to learning more about your side of the globe and seeing your awesome photography!

Happy Palindrome Day everybody and good night!

On this thoroughly palindromic date, we found ourselves drawing our lovely week to a close. It's true that all good things must come to an end, but that doesn't mean that the end has to be melancholic.

Having overnighted in Peebles, we decided to stop in Moffat to do some shopping at the legendary Moffat Toffee shop. This involves getting onto the A701 through a rather helpful little bridging B Road called the B712.

About halfway along we drove through some forest that, whilst not as pretty as that on the way into Elgin, was still well worth stopping the car for given that this time we could do it safely and conveniently.

Everything seemed to fall into place with the fascinating light and shadows. Could the whole thing have done with a bit more exposure? Probably, but I like the result anyway.

And now we're back home. And that's a lovely thing too. :)
