A detail of the Painted Hills unit of John Day Fossils Beds located in Wheeler County, Oregon. The colorful bands and striations in the clay rich hills were formed when this area was an ancient river flood plane and correspond to various geological eras. Thanks for the views and happy Friday!

This is a close-up photo of a paint roller tray covered in dried turquoise oil-based marine paint that I photographed on the government wharf in East Petpeswick.

A glacial river cut a cross section of horizontal layers of volcanic rock at the Painted Chasm, 20 km north of Clinton, British Columbia, Canada, over 10,000 years ago.
CSXT 34 leading M716 as they meet Q643 at Longview, CSXT 34 is wearing a relatively fresh YN3B paint job(which is no longer the corporate scheme anymore)

At last a butterfly which isn't brown! More usual species for this locality have also appeared and may be linked to some recent wet weather after an unusually hot spell - or it may be coincidence. Very welcome anyway!
One of the cool things about Painted Hills on a cloudy day... if you wait long enough, you can get the light you were looking for.
