I got eaten by many mosquitos to get this shot blue hour shot of Paint Lake near Thompson, Manitoba, and in Northern Manitoba in the summer, they get quite hungry at dusk. The rain was really coming down at this point.
Thanks, so much...
Painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) at Wildwood Nature Preserve in the canal. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Painted Buntings are pretty aggressive to other members of their species. When the males aren't challenging with a song or fighting, they spend a lot of time hiding from predators. As brightly colored as they are, it's difficult to spot them back in the shade and leaves. Our beautiful world, pass it on.
I have a difficult time telling the painted lady and American lady species of butterflies apart. I'm pretty sure this one is the painted lady (vanessa cardui) and it looked beautiful on a pink zinnia.

I've found that the male Painted Buntings will get upset if someone wants to join them in the bath. The female Painted Bunting is on the rim of the bird bath waiting her turn.

Off on another adventure... sometimes we catch light, sometimes we don't. My general rule is explore when the probability is high, and relax when it's low.
Love watching these feeding on our buddleia swinging around in todays winds. Sitting in a chair with my 500pf it is a challenge to capture one and wondering how the hell they hang on while feeding is another
...processing these has been tricky without the yellows merging into a custardy mush. But what's not to like really...??
Thought the new Trolls hair piece 65463 would work well as the tip of a paint brush.
You can see the model in 3D on Mecabricks.
I've not seen many Painted Ladies this year and most of those I have seen have been rather tatty. This rather lovely one stayed around these flowers at Plas Newydd gardens fro quite a while, enabling me to get plenty of shots. I didn't notice the incoming Hoverfly (or is it a bee?) until I downloaded the image from my camera.
My little Painted Bunting friend. I did a quick stop at the park before the rain hit and for once this bird actually stopped in a mostly open spot and I was able to get some cleaner shots. It's so nice to have a reliable spot to see one of these colorful guys.
- I see a red door and I want to paint it black...

This was taken on a prairie grass trail at a local provincial park. I was hoping to find Clearwing Moths on this trail, but instead found my first Painted Lady of the year and several others, plus several Viceroys (FOY) and a few Monarchs.
Painted Lady butterflies (Vanessa Cardui) were raised at home from caterpillars supplied from Insect Lore. This one is getting used to the idea of freedom in the garden just after release.
