47/52: I didn’t get that nice morning red burn for sunrise but if this photo doesn’t scream San Diego I don’t know what does. Not too shabby for January weather.

I was set up for some longer exposure shots but when I saw these paddleboarders approaching I removed my ND filter and cranked up the shutter speed. I was lucky to get the seagull in frame as well.

Boats of all manner gathered Friday evening May 18 at 't Kruswetter in Bolsward, Fryslan, for a twilight circumnavigation (rondvaart) of the old Hanseatic city's canals (grachten). Here seen on the candlelit Grootzand Gracht. The only proviso: good cheer and boats needed to be low in the water and be able to pass underneath a low bridge. The "rondvaart" was part of the Ascension Day (Hemelvaart) weekend celebrations culminating with the Cycling Elfstedentocht (ElevenCitiesTour) on Monday May 21.

Was watching these two Standup paddleboarding earlier tonight.

SUP (Stand Up Paddling) is all the rage around our local moorage. Paddleboarders flock to the shore by the houseboat moorage for classes, and even kick back in the shallows for midday siesta and sunburns. I can't say I "get it" (I like to cruise with some gear onboard--usually, a dog or two, camera bag, lunch, waterbottle or more, maybe even an outboard motor!) But it's old school island-style, and they do add to the tapestry of river living. I expect they'll disappear like the summer sunshine, and craigslist will fill with board ads when the leaves start to fall. When the prices get low enough, who knows? I might even get tempted--but I doubt it. If I want to stand up and paddle, I'd have to overcome a lifetime of boat etiquette, where "sit down" was the first rule I learned.

"Pelicans are regulars visitors there and you can find them begging for leftovers from the fisherman.

Dolphins, schools of stingrays and fish can also be seen from the pier."

At first he headed straight into the waves and strong headwind. Gaining confidence he turned 90 degrees and rolled sideways in the swells for a long stretch. Then back into the wind head on. He figured out what sailors know. Tacking on an angle against the wind is the best way to make progress against it. A tack is to paddleboarding what a switchback is to a hiker. By tacking starboard and port, this paddleboarder moved 10 cottage lengths forward. He was out there a good 45 minutes when he took three falls in quick succession. Time to turn tail and let the wind do the work of pushing him back to shore.

I spoke with Mike, Ashley & Walker (sitting at Ashley's feet) when they came up the stairs and was able to send them a couple photos from the end of their paddle on a spectacular November afternoon.

Dear friend, here are 5 things you should know:

1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)

2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)

3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)

5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)

Read the Bible for yourself. Allow the Lord to speak to you through his Word. YOUR ETERNITY IS AT STAKE!

Sincerely,

I have driven through the Marble Canyon area many times, but always on the way to "somewhere else." Today, I stopped at Lees Ferry and watched rafting trips starting downriver toward the Grand Canyon and paddleboarders heading upstream in the calm waters. But nothing compared to standing ankle-deep in the Colorado River at Paria Beach.

More paddleboarders… en route to the sea. I wanted to catch them in profile as they walked across the sand. It’s also the first of a series of photos featuring sunsets in Nairn.

This is a 6 image panorama depicting one of my favourite locations near my home.

We went down to the lake yesterday morning to celebrate Australia Day with our family. As the picnic area was bound to get crowded early, we decided to take the opportunity of having a photography morning. This image was made at 6:33am - the best time of day.

If you look closely at the image, not only can you find a pelican gliding across the water, you will find a paddleboarder heading out for some exercise.

One small drawback to making panorama images is their size. They really need to be printed and displayed on a wall!

"In the Land of Grey and Pink" is the third studio album by the British progressive rock band Caravan, released in April 1971. It is considered a classic in the Canterbury scene, a subgenre of progressive rock known for blending elements of jazz, classical, and psychedelic rock with whimsical, often surreal lyrics.

The lyrics throughout the album are often playful and surreal, reflecting a whimsical, almost childlike sense of wonder.

The title and lyrics of the album evoke an imaginary, mystical land—grey and pink colours symbolize the dreamy and sometimes melancholic themes.

Themes of fantasy, nature, and escapism are dominant in the album’s concept.

I went for a stroll along the prom in Hastings. These paddleboarders were having a great time. the guy on the right just caught a crab as I took the photo and was on his way for a swim (tipical just too early)
