Us packing up to head back home... This was around our campsite at Wench Creek Campground in Eldorado National Forest, CA. (Wednesday, July 24, 2013)
*Summary of our camping trip:
-Arrived Monday, July 22, 2013 at Wench Creek Campground, CA
-Set up camp/chilled/watched an epic lightning/thunderstorm down at the lake with the fam around 11ish-just past midnight
-Went to Bassi Falls Tuesday, July 23, 2013 with the fambam
-Chilled/rested up back at the campsite
-Played a game of blowing flour to reveal a coin at the lake (Union Valley Reservoir)
-Had fun playing in the water at the lake
-Walked around the lake a bit until sunset/early evening with the cousins
-Hanged out by the lake with cousins until nightfall
-Feasted on food on the last evening + Uncle Ricky's special hot sauce and steak
-Chilled by the fire/headed to bed
-Packed up and left Wench Creek Campground around early afternoon on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 (took a whole family group picture before we left)

I pack groceries into this cart in a Tetris-like fashion, taking care not only to put the bigger, heavier items at the bottom but also to place the heaviest items up front to help balance the weight over the axle so there's as little as possible on the handle. I also need to pay close attention to where smaller items are placed so they're not near any large openings. or are well-secured between the biggest openings at the sides.
This must be my greatest packing victory yet. That's 11.5 pounds of toilet paper strapped to the front; not only was the weight taken off the handle almost completely, it was trying to tilt back into an upright position a little bit.
Instead of packing, Megan put on war paint and then we decided to have a photo sesh in our hallway. Yessss summer

One of the advantages of having a "spare" house is that it makes packing for a ski-trip much easier!
It's been a mostly indoors day. Jan was working hard on the translation and I spent an hour or so doing a read through and adjusting a few small points.
We did take a walk to the lake but it has turned very icy on the roads and even wearing spikes it's not much fun walking over hard ice. The temperatures are above freezing so the snow on the road has melted away, leaving just the ice! Just the right time to fly to Barcelona and take a 3 hour bus ride up to the Pyrenees where there's hopefully plenty of snow. Current temperatures there are -5° to -10°C which sounds good for skiing.
I purchased this from my local O'Reilly Auto Parts store. I was going to pack by hand bug figured that packing will be part of routine maintenance, so why not make things easy on myself.
Hazel has been packing away all the xmassy nick-nacks and decorations including the lovely wooden carved santa with his skis that Jonathan Stangrooms Dad made which we religiously bring out every year to display.
I got the Ortleib handlebar bag set up, but it looked a little 'bobo' as we used to say in Key West.
I just didn't like having the bag so high up, but the dynohub light needed to be able to peek out..

For 12 people on the trip we had 2 Australian guides, 6 sherpas, 12 porters and 19 cook boys and spares.
We're done! Today is the last day of the Games and we're busy packing up everything and shipping back to South Africa. We've worked hard, but it's been worth it.
