Unusually large crowed showed up this morning for the first official event in NYC Parks since hurricane Sandy devastating blow to the city. Around 2000 runners, up to 5 times the usual amount, attended the 9AM 5K run around the Prospect Park in Park Slope, Brooklyn, organized by Prospect Park Alliance and the NYC Road Runners Club .
The unusual large crowd of runners is believe to be direct flow from the canceled NYC Marathon which was set to run trough five boroughs tomorrow.
The 9AM run was followed by 5K around the park walkathon which also had record number of walkers.
Employees, friends and family joined Prospect Park Alliance for a fall stewardship project and helped spread mulch and cleared paths on nature trails in the Midwood section of Prospect Park.
The first victim of the Beeching Cuts and remains in good structural condition despite the many leaks.
