This is the garden and restaurant area at Prospect Point

A bridge and a little waterfall in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

The first victim of the Beeching Cuts and remains in good structural condition despite the many leaks.

George went with his cousin anda friend to do some fishing in Prospect again (no one caught anything, too rainy and a tropical storm's coming) and he took the point and shoot to get pictures for me. It's beautiful.

Don't know who owned this at the time. Hardings and Prospect are the two coaches.

The remains of the track bed of the Scarborough & Whitby Railway between Prospect Hill and Bog Hall, which ascended steeply on a gradient of 1 in 50, on top of the banking to the right is the formation of the track bed to Scarborough, which the trains would travel along after reversal at Prospect Hill.

This line closed as a through route on the 8th March 1965 although the the last trains ran on the 6th March, it now forms the 21 mile long 'Cinder Track' between Whitby and Scarborough.

These portraits are almost identical, but I really can't decide which I like more; one is a little more dramatic, the other seems more intimate. This is the 'intimate' one...it's just closer. Definitely view large.

Fortunate Prospect at Old Friends. As my hubby pointed out, Fortunate Prospect won 33% of the time as a runner - 13 wins out of 39 starts. "That would be a star in baseball!"

That said, he was also a very succesful stallion, siring 28 stakes winners, 537 winners, and 632 runners; his progeny have earned nearly $40 million on the racetrack! Very impressive.

He stood at Farnsworth Farm in Florida until he turned 24 in 2005, at which time he was pensioned. Shortly thereafter, his owner donated Fortunate Prospect to Old Friends when he liquidated the farm. The owner wanted Fortunate Prospect to have a safe, permanent, home, and I can't think of a better place.

Fortunate Prospect was very friendly and loved getting petted. For a 26 year-old stallion, he looks great!

From the Old Friends website:

"Old Friends began as a retirement and rescue facility for pensioned Thoroughbreds.

Then news broke of the inconceivable death of Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand in a

slaughterhouse in Japan in 2002 (read more about Ferdinand). The discovery gave even more impetus to our organization. "We went from getting five emails a day to hundreds," noted President and founder Michael Blowen. We knew such a death must never happen again. And so the plan became to bring " at risk" racehorses--those whose racing and breeding careers had come to an end--to Old Friends, provide them with the dignified retirement they deserve, and open the space to the public. By promoting these one-time celebrated horses through a campaign of education and tourism, we realized we could draw attention to all retired Thoroughbreds and all equines in need.

"...Based in Georgetown, Ky., Old Friends has begun receiving visitors. We are hosting two to five tours daily, and while our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero."

Stayed with my friend Blake in Brooklyn for a few days. He's a good sport about taking photos so we did a bunch of weird photos...more to come
