Cerulean Warblers nests in old growth deciduous forests. Once on their nesting grounds, they hang out at the very top of the canopies. From the forest floor, birdwatchers will have no problem hearing the little warbler's song and can with time and effort even see the little bird flit from tree to tree or branch to branch. The Cerulean provides its fans with a classic case of warbler neck.
Photographing this bird is very hard because one must lean backwards and shoot straight up, and those efforts have given me barely passable 'proof pics' in the past.
This year, however, I found a small area in the far southwestern corner of Michigan of old growth forest with nesting Cerulean Warblers that lay in a depression. From the road above the depression, I was able to photograph a Cerulean at a nearly straight level or at least an acceptable upward angle.
Needless to say, I was very happy to photograph this bird in gleaming sunlight. Sadly, the Cerulean is suffering falling population numbers due to habitat loss. My hope is we will preserve the forests he needs so he may always be with us.

During my preparations for a trip to Bryce Canyon, I chanced upon a hidden gem, Red Canyon. Nestled en route to Bryce, this lesser-known state park boasts a handful of hiking trails and a cozy campground. The particular trail that caught my eye was described as a showcase of Utah's unique red rock formations. Having already visited Bryce, I anticipated a similar sight, albeit with a twist.
Little did I know that Red Canyon would be a delightful surprise. The rocks here, a striking shade of red, outshine even the famed hues of Bryce, which lean more towards orange. The trails, though steep and technical, offered a thrilling adventure. Arriving well past sunrise, I had to be cautious not to overexpose the vibrant reds in my photos. In fact, it was a rare instance where I had to desaturate my images during post-processing.
The other night for my photo of the Ferris Wheel, I mentioned frustrations I was having with getting the IR remote shutter release working. I was determined to fix it or ditch it....and fix it I did. In celebration we had a Mexican dinner down at Redcliffe where I shot this scene of the quite low light on the Jetty across the road. It was only 6.00pm, we got away early. Winter!
Still extremely busy with settling in and its problems so I was glad to see I hadn't used this image before. I want to get back to shooting and get back to normalcy soon. Flicker is my escape!

El río Oued Ouzoud tiene una caída de 110 m en tres pisos de cascadas en el cañón. De marzo a junio es la temporada más indicada para visitar las cascadas por el agua que en ese momento cae, si bien la afluencia de turismo es mayor si cabe. Las cascadas d'Ouzoud se encuentran a unos 170 km al NE de Marrakech. Uno de los grandes problemas de la zona es la canalización de la basura. Mejor no pensarlo!
El camino a las Cascadas, repleto de tenderetes de recuerdos y de cafés, se ha convertido en un santuario del turismo.
El genero de Zygaena esta repleto de problemas se ha profundizado mucho pero persisten multiples dudas, muchas de las descritas son realmente subespecies, incluso meras formas locales.
En la peninsula iberica esta colonizada por 22 especies de zygaenas, lo que corresponde al 22,68% de las especies del genero

Il più rinomato caffé di Trieste è il Caffé degli Specchi, in Piazza Unità d’Italia , al pianterreno del Palazzo Stratti. All’inaugurazione, avvenuta nel lontano 1839, seguirono problemi di carattere finanziario che spinsero il proprietario alla cessione dell’intero edificio alle Assicurazioni Generali. Nel 1846 il caffé riaprì i battenti sotto la direzione di Nicolò Priovolo, il quale cedette l’attività nel 1884 a due professionisti del settore del caffé: Antonio Cesareo e Vincenzo Carmelich. Cesareo, già gestore del Caffé Stella Polare. Nel 1933 i due gestori decisero di far ristrutturare i locali del caffé, introducendo una novità: la corrente elettrica.
A dare il nome al caffé tanto amato da letterati del calibro di Joyce, Svevo e Kafka, fu l’idea del primo gestore del locale, di ricoprire le pareti con incisioni, realizzate su specchi recanti ciascuno il ricordo di un fatto storico verificatosi in Europa nell’Ottocento. Inoltre, gli specchi avevano il gran pregio di dare luminosità al locale anche alla flebile luce del tramonto, consentendo così il prolungamento della permanenza dei clienti nel locale senza l’uso di lampade ad olio.
Ai giorni nostri, dei molti specchi che erano affissi alle pareti (e che vennero sottratti a più riprese dai diversi eserciti d’occupazione di passaggio in città) ne rimangono esposti soltanto tre originali, mentre gli altri sono conservati in luogo appartato per proteggerli dall’umidità e dalla salsedine.

A bonus "Friday Face" this week. I don't understand Japanese. However, it was quite possible to interpret what was going on in this photo.
I saw the passenger get up from her seat, but too late to get off the train at her stop. She had probably nodded off as so many people do on Japanese public transport. She walked down the train to find the conductress. The conductress very politely invited her to sit down opposite us and came back a couple of minutes later with information that she should get off at a particular station to connect with a service going the opposite way. Something was then written on the ticket which I imagine gave the lady a free ride back down the line.

La Ciudad de Santiago tiene un serio problema con el tráfico vehicular en ciertos sectores. Con un parque automotriz estimado en torno a los 2,000,000 de vehículos conviviendo en un área metropolitana de casi 7,000,000 de personas, algunos caminos, calles, avenidas y/o autopistas simplemente colapsan en hora punta (bueno, incluso ya no solamente en la hora punta), tal como expresa esta fotografía tomada en plena comuna de Las Condes, en la Avenida Manquehue, y específicamente cerca del barrio Nueva Las Condes, donde muchas empresas han relocalizado sus instalaciones.
Santiago has a problem with the traffic in certain places. With 2,000,000 cars in our metropolitan area, some roads, avenues and motorways collapsed at rush hour, like this picture taken in Las Condes neighbourhood, where is placed the new financial district.
Abellio is in NRW een groot aantal treindiensten kwijtgeraakt door financiële problemen. Daaronder valt ook de RB40 tussen Essen en Hagen HBF. Deze treindienst zal na 1 maart worden uitgevoerd door DB Regio. In de overgangsfase van Abellio naar DB Regio neemt TRI de treindienst tijdelijk voor haar rekening en rijdt hier twee omlopen met getrokken treinen met N-wagens. De trekkende kracht was steeds afwisselend. Voor één omloop was het aan het begin een zwarte taurus, maar na een paar weken is de zwarte taurus ingeruild en is de bijzondere Mauerfall Taurus de trekkende kracht geworden. Hiervoor werd op 30 januari het Ruhrgebiet bezocht.
In Wetter werd de trein voor de eerste keer opgewacht. Onder treinnummer 33757 passeert de fraaie 182 560 de tweetal fotografen op de Neue Ruhrbrücke.

Due to a significant derailment the prior evening in Valley Falls yard the Providence and Worcester's nightly Worcester to Davisville road train never made it to its destination. The power and head 10 cars in front of the six (out of 61 total on the train) that derailed were cut was cut away and pulled up here south of the Blackstone River bridge and north of the Hunt Street crossing at about MP 5.6 on the historic original mainline. The power consists of three units GE B40-8W 4005 and B40-8 4001 bracketing EMD GP38 2006 the lead two still dressed in the classic scheme of the independent pre Genesee and Wyoming P&W.

Shortly after the last shot I moved a little bit to the south side of that bridge to get an other angle and point of view. That's a little bit unusual for images shot from that bridge. I wanted to include some of the last daylight here.
Now, since it rained a lot, the water's edge is flooded by high water. In many parts of Germany there are problems with high water at the moment. I hope and wish that the high water will go back soon for those affected people living at those places.

Rolleiflex T w/ Tessar 75 mm + Rollei IR filter.
Rollei IR 400 in Rodinal 1+100, semistand 1 h.
Lith printed on old Kodak Medalist F-3 (single weight FB, thanks Travis!), washed in a warm water bath for about 2 min and then developed in Moersch Easy Lith (15A+15B+H2Oqs800).
Fixed in Moersch ATS alkaline fixer.
Untoned.
PS borders.
2nd print in the bath. Moderate fogging of paper base, hence PS borders.
Pre-dev washing in warm water was a tip from my US Flickr friend Robin, since I previously have had problems with artifacts in homogeneous areas like skies (se below) with this paper, probably due to aged developing agents in the paper emulsion which will be washed away during this process. And I must say that I think it works! Thanks Robin (and Alfred!).
Sweden was "neutral" in WWII. However, we were preparing for the worst. Several "War Airfields" were built and this one (close to where I live) is kept for historical purposes.
The overnight sleeper failed at Carlisle, a door problem I saw reported. It decanted the unlucky passengers onto the platform, and proceeded to London later in the day. Scheduled to go via Wolverhampton, Stechford, Birmingham International it turned left at Stafford and made some time up on the fast line up the Trent valley. So much so that I only just made it in time.... Thanks to gen providers.
Towards to top of the potter's field in Alhambra Cemetery, numbered markers give way to small metal markers that display actual names, but it really just trades one problem for another. The metal markers are not intended to be permanent. These graves are not anonymous, but over time the markers will deteriorate and possibly get moved or even stolen. They're not an ideal replacement for the numbered blocks.

I spent a little time with this guy. He told me he was down on his luck, had substance abuse problems and just got evicted. When I met him I just had a wildlife lens (200-500m) with me and I asked if I could take his picture. Of course I had to setup across the parking lot as I had to stand about 50' from him. :) He played me what I recognized as Freebird, (Lynyrd Skynyrd). I gave him a few bucks to help him out and thanked him for the song.
