I've got pieces of April
But it's a morning in May
I was expecting to produce a different border for the outer edge of the rectangle but decided to use the same green ladder as I had sufficient slices left
This was another find in a local store. The box was quite beat up but the pieces inside were still sealed. I haven't done a Bits and Pieces puzzle since the late 1990s, should be fun.
I have purchased 2 Michèle Wilson puzzles recently. My other one (to be revealed at a later time) had flawlessly cut pieces with no fraying on the back side, but this one has quite a bit as you can see here. There is also one piece (at center) which had one ply of the 3-ply wood backing come apart (the other half nowhere to be found). This piece is thinner than the other ones and I even wonder whether it goes with this puzzle, as the pieces are sorted out by color after being cut in a stack, and the bare wood could easily have been mistaken for yellow. I'll try to patch it, but it is a bit annoying considering the price.
My hunch on the frayed pieces is that this puzzle was at the bottom of the stack and not cut as cleanly, whereas my other MW may have been toward the middle.

See how some of the bottles broke both above and below the string.
Cut using a bucket of water (sink or bathtub would work too), nail polish remover (the acetone type), string or yarn, and a lighter or matches.
There are videos on YouTube.com - but for a quick run through, here's how we did this:
1) gather your supplies.
2) wrap string around bottle 5-6 times and tie in a knot.
3) slip off and soak in acetone.
4) slide the string back onto the bottle about where you'd like it to break.
5) holding vertical over your water source, light the string.
-- be careful, if you have acetone on the bottle (drips) or on your hands, they'll flash with flame too.
6) continually turn bottle to keep flame even all around.
7) when flame starts to die out, submerge in water.
If everything goes correctly, it will crack apart.
I did this 3 times before we finally got it to work - the first 2 times I don't think we had enough string wrapped around the bottle.
