La garza blanca o garceta grande (Ardea alba) es una especie de ave Ciconiiforme de la familia Ardeidae. Es una de las garzas más ampliamente distribuidas por el mundo.
Descripción
La garza blanca es un ave grande de plumaje blanco que puede alcanzar el metro de altura y pesar arriba de 950 gramos. Es ligeramente menor a la garza ceniza (A. herodias). Además del tamaño, la garza blanca puede diferenciarse de otras garzas del mismo color por el pico amarillo y las patas negras, aunque el pico puede tornarse más oscuro y las patas más claras en la estación de cría. En el plumaje de cría, delicadas plumas ornamentales salen de la espalda. Machos y hembras son idénticos en apariencia.
Posee un vuelo lento, con el cuello retraído. Esto es característico de garzas y avetoros, y es lo que los distingue de cigüeñas, grullas, ibis y espátulas, que mantienen el cuello extendido al volar.
Comportamiento
La garza blanca es parcialmente migratoria; las aves del hemisferio norte provenientes de áreas de inviernos fríos se desplazan hacia el sur. Se alimenta en aguas poco profundas o hábitats más secos, alimentándose principalmente de peces, ranas, pequeños mamíferos, y ocasionalmente aves pequeñas y reptiles, atrapándolos con su pico largo y afilado, la mayor parte del tiempo quedándose quieta y dejando que la presa se acerque hasta poder alcanzarlas con el pico, que utiliza como arpón. A menudo esperará inmóvil a la presa, o caminará lentamente hacia ella. Es una especie común, normalmente fácil de ver. Reproducción
Se reproduce en colonias en árboles cercanos a lagos de juncos o humedales. Forma el nido con palos pequeños secos entrelazados con juncos y totoras, y colocando generalmente entre 3 y 5 huevos de color celeste claro.
Amenaza
En Norteamérica un gran número de garzas fueron asesinadas alrededor de finales del siglo XIX, para usar sus plumas para decorar sombreros. Su población se ha recuperado desde entonces como resultado de las medidas de conservación. Su rango se ha extendido hacia el norte, hasta el sur de Canadá. Sin embargo, en algunas partes del sur de Estados Unidos, su número ha disminuido debido a la pérdida de su hábitat. Aún así, se adapta bien al hábitat humano y puede ser fácilmente vista cerca de los humedales y cuerpos de agua en zonas urbanas y suburbanas.

Congregation Ohab Zedek, or OZ, as it is fondly known, is more than just a synagogue. Under the leadership of Rabbi Allen Schwartz, the Shul is known for its open doors and big heart. OZ has broad ties with the surrounding Jewish community and its Upper West Side neighborhood as a whole. A random visitor could easily encounter an up and coming scholar from Israel, or members of the local fire station. It is an informal, comfortable, inclusive community.
OZ is a modern Orthodox congregation, but any individual is welcome, regardless of background or means. It is a Shul of interlocking communities--young families who find a relaxed setting on Shabbos morning to introduce their toddlers to services; singles, who famously crowd the steps on Friday night; and seniors, many of whom have been members of OZ for decades. It is home to those tentatively exploring Judaism as well as the most learned, who are stimulated by a broad array of lecturers and classes.
OZ is known for its wide range of Chesed activities, which include a long-time Bikur Cholim group that visits Mount Sinai Hospital each Shabbos and on holidays, as well as its members' regular visits to homebound seniors. Members also subsidize seats for those in need on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.
OZ has a proud history. The Shul was founded in 1873 on Avenue B and Houston Street on the Lower East Side as the First Hungarian Congregation Ohab Zedek. After a sojourn on West 116th Street in Harlem, the Congregation moved to its present location at 118 West 95th Street in 1926. Today, as part of a revitalized Upper West Side that has drawn an ever-expanding population of families and young adults, OZ is a vibrant and dynamic Jewish center for prayer, learning and social activities.

Piazza San Marco (often known in English as St Mark's Square), is the principal public square of Venice, Italy, where it is generally known just as "the Piazza". Flickr Photographers Project
I have been wanting to start a project for awhile, I had been bouncing ideas around for a bit, and finally decided to do a project photographing Flickr Photographers. I know we all hate being in front of the lens but, I thought it would be neat to put a face to the awesome works of the people we visit on a daily basis.
My first subject for this project was my good friend Stephen AKA SMGALLERY, please visit his stream it's amazing!!!!! Stephen is an amazing landscape photographer and his portraits ain't no joke either. Stephen is a self-taught photographer with an amazing eye, he loves to shoot anything and everything. He loves Peter Lik's work and is a huge inspiration to Stephen as well. Stephen is 28 years old and has been shooting for about 3 years now and is on his way up!!!!!!! He started with point and shoots and he was getting a ton of great feedback, so his dad helped him get his first DSLR a Nikon D80. He is now shooting with a D300 and an array of lenses. I am privileged to call him a friend and also happy he wanted to be a part of my project.

Sant Jaume de Frontanyà is a municipality in the comarca of the Berguedà in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the Pyrenees below the peak of Pedró de Tubau (1543 m). The village is the smallest municipality in Catalonia in terms of population. The monumental roman church of Sant Jaume is a protected historico-artistic monument. The village is served by a local road to Borredà.
It is the municipality with less population of Catalonia in 2006 (32 inhabitants).

San Jaime de Frontanyá (en catalán y oficialmente Sant Jaume de Frontanyà) es un municipio catalán de la comarca del Berguedà, regado por afluentes de la riera de Merlés. Aparece documentado por primera vez en 905, con motivo de la consagración de su antigua iglesia de Sant Jaume Vell. Es el municipio con menos población de Cataluña en 2006 (32 habitantes).
Su término es montañoso y escasamente poblado, con bosques de pinos y pastos para la ganadería que junto con la agricultura de cereales y el turismo son la base de su economía.
Por su escasa población, funciona en régimen de concejo abierto. Todos los habitantes con derecho a voto son concejales del ayuntamiento con un alcalde como representante.

“The Hispania” was a company of buses founded in Reus between 1905 and 1909 and that communicated the populations of the Priorat with Reus until year 2004. This one was the bus stop of Prades.

Located near the highest point of the Muntanyes de Prades range, of which region it is the capital, the ‘red town’ of Prades, which gets its name from the characteristic red stone of the area, is located in the middle of a plateau at an altitude of 940 m, in a densely forested part of the comarca (roughly equivalent to a county) of Baix Camp in the province of Tarragona.
In the surroundings there are traces of prehistoric settlement, some neolithic, and also of Iberian/Pre Roman times. There is as yet no clear historical record until the time of the Reconquista (the reconquest by Christian forces of territory formerly under Saracen control) in the 1150s. At that time, these mountains were of key strategic importance and served as a defence line against the Saracens who had settled in the area around Siurana. Once Lleida and Tortosa fell to the Christian forces, Siurana was besieged and finally conquered, the Saracens were banished and the territory then settled by the victors. The political centre of gravity of the range then moved from Siurana to Prades, which received its township charter in 1159.
It is important to remember the Counts of Prades were always prominent in matters of internal politics and in the campaigns of expansion across the Mediterranean, and that in the grandest age of the County, as direct descendants of the King, they ranked high amongst the Catalan nobility. Their aristocratic power lasted until Mendizabal’s land disentailment law of 1835 and the title of Count of Prades is still preserved in the line of the Dukes of Medinaceli.
During the War of Separation (also known as the war of the Segadors) in the 17th century, in which Catalonia fought against Spain, the county of Prades was an important war zone. As a result of that war, parts of the walls and the castle were destroyed.

Situado cerca de la cima de Las Montañas de Prades, de las que ostenta la capitalidad, la villa vermella (rojiza) de Prades se encuentra en medio de un altiplano a 940 mts. de altitud en una zona de gran densidad boscosa de la comarca del Baix Camp en la provincia de Tarragona.
El entorno de Prades conserva indicios de poblamiento prehistórico, con restos de la época neolítica, que llegan hasta los asentamientos iberico--pre-romanos. No se tiene certeza de hechos históricos hasta la Reconquista durante la cual estas montañas constituyeron una pieza clave ya que sirvió como elemento de defensa a los serracenos que se habían establecido en el entorno de Siurana hasta que el Conde de Barcelona, Ramon Berenguer IV, a mediados del siglo XII, después de apoderarse de Lleida y Tortosa, estando Siurana totalmente sitiada, fue reducida y expulsó a los sarracenos y repobló la zona. El centro de gravedad política del macizo, en este momento, se desplazó de Siurana a Prades que el año 1159 recibió una Carta de Población.
Es importante remarcar que los condes de Prades estuvieron siempre presentes en los hechos de la política interior y en las campañas de expansión por el Mediterráneo y que en la época más esplendorosa del condado, como descendientes directos del rey, ostentaron categoría de primer orden entre la nobleza catalana. Su dominio señorial duró hasta la desamortización de Mendizábal en 1835 y el título de Conde de Prades aún se conserva en poder de los Medinaceli.
Durante la Guerra de Separación o de los Segadors (s. XVII), que enfrentó Cataluña con España, el condado de Prades fue un importante centro de operaciones bélicas. Como consecuencia de la guerra, fue destruida parte de la muralla y del castillo.

La zona di Capo Altano, altrimenti detta Capo Giordano, è uno scrigno prezioso di endemismi botanici, vale a dire di piante rare se non uniche, dai mille stupefacenti colori e dai mille incredibili, delicatissimi, inebrianti profumi. Essendo il vento dominante quello di Nord Ovest, non vi è traccia di conseguenze dovute all’industria. Il Maestrale, infatti, accudisce paternamente a rivitalizzare un’area di bellezza incredibile, non solo per il tripudio rigoglioso di colori e aromi floreali ma anche per la vastità di un panorama talmente suggestivo da causare stupore, rapimento, crisi esistenziali ed altro.
Arrivare a Capo Altano da Portoscuso, significa percorrere un affascinante tragitto tortuoso tra i ginepri, in compagnia, sulla destra, di configurazioni rocciose che pare racchiudano arcani significati estetici, e sulla sinistra, di una scogliera frangiata e gioiosa (quando il mare è in amore e gioca maliziosi andirivieni ondosi che sfrigolano abbaglianti riflessi intermittenti). Da questa scogliera lo sguardo s’innalza oltre l’immensa distesa di lapislazzolo, sempre solcata da barche a vela, per planare sull’Isola di San Pietro, più bella che mai; e quindi sui dirupi di basalto dorato di Capo Altano; per abbracciare poi, con un sol batter di ciglio, la costa montuosa che dal Pan di Zucchero arriva all’immensa spiaggia di Gonnesa. Tra questa spiaggia e Capo Altano, dalla fine di aprile ai primi di giugno, lo specchio di mare prospiciente è tutto un brulichio di natanti poiché la tonnara è in funzione. Ed è bellissimo ed emozionante assistere, dai sipari di roccia che la scogliera apre sul mare, al ritorno in porto di un lungo e ordinato corteo di battelli mentre le campane di Portoscuso annunciano il risultato positivo della pesca appena avvenuta.
A Capo Altano, dai residui di cemento delle piazzole per cannoni, stonati e inutili retaggi della seconda guerra mondiale, si domina uno dei più fantastici, incredibili paesaggi marini del mondo. Ecco perché, in alcuni ripari sotto roccia, scoperti nei pressi, sono stati rinvenuti reperti testimonianti il viver dell’uomo, in questo luogo da sogno, fin dagli albori dell’antichità paleolitica (18.000 anni da oggi e ancor più).
Anche se è impossibile trovare in Sardegna luoghi vissuti dagli antichi, che non siano paesaggisticamente bellissimi, questo di Capo Altano è veramente fuori dal consueto, anzi, una magnificenza in assoluto. Sostandovi viene da immaginarsi con quanta attenzione l’uomo antico osservasse il passaggio primaverile di branchi sterminati di tonni, che, apparendo in primavera, sempre guizzavano tenendo il fianco sinistro proprio a ridosso dei precipiti dirupi costieri che paiono cascate di lava pietrificata.
Tutta la zona, geologicamente, ha un’età di 575 milioni di anni e il successivo cataclisma lavico, di cui testimoniano le sinuosità pietrificate, pare sia concomitante ad una supposta, mitica, esplosione di un vulcano marino, in un’epoca incerta, forse un centinaio di milioni di anni da oggi.

Then we were inside her car.
Passenger seats, second row.
The lights blinded as they flew past, but we were silent.
Then we kissed.
They were little kisses, escaped little bits of air in between our lips.
The dark enveloped our touch, and I lost my mind. As she kept breathing, the car receded in flame, and we were floating.
Like little specks of dust into the ether.
They wouldn't be noticeable to anyone who walks to quickly, but when you paused,
I bet you could see us.
Holding hands, and just feeling each others hearts fade in and out.
I wanted to die remembering this taste, her and me and feeling free.
The skyline shifted as we turned corners, and we descended.
The car came to a slow, and I pulled away, and looked into the eyes of the one I could stay three inches from for a lifetime.
Her and I, well you haven't seen much before us.
In the old school at St Fagans in 2007, a group of welsh primary school children had to dress and have a day at school exactly as they would have done just before WW1 (less any necessary caning).
Watching them trying to cope with nibbed pens and inkwells was quite good fun, as was listening to the sound of absolute silence in the classroom, and iron discipline dispensed by the (very attractive) schoolmistress, also in period costume.
I had to take this shot without the benefit of a tripod, at a 1/2 second exposure, handheld, so plenty of intensly "arty" blur from the old Ikonta's 105mm f/4.5 Novar lens.
I quite like the result though.

Accommodations in the Amazon aren't that plentiful. Our choice was Ariau Towers. For those familiar with the Survivor TV Show, this was the hotel the film crew stayed in during the taping of Survivor: The Amazon. The hotel looked like it had seen better days, but then again the conditions are rather harsh. It's hard to describe how much the area floods, hence everything being built on stilts. Some of the more famous guests have included Bill Gates, Jimmy Carter, Susan Sarandon, Alanis Morissette, etc... This picture is the interior of one of the towers. Our room was the one on the left.
With all that said, probably one of the things I will remember most from this location was our guide. He told us of how they would paddle on the river two hours one-way to the nearest school each day. He was currently in the midst of teaching himself his fifth language. His determination to better himself was inspiring.

I'm miss home and bucket loads of snow! Scotland is great, but there is no snow (and probably wont be for Christmas! Boooo) Though, there is no shortage of hot chocolate with baileys and curling up under warm blankets, so that is nice!

A facón is a dagger worn at the back and tucked into the belt of the gaucho in order to be quickly drawn with the right hand. Used in the South American pampas, they are often seen with a decorated metal hilt and sheath. The facón could measure some fifty centimeters in length, and there are even examples of knives up to seventy five centimeters long.
The facón was an important tool of the gaucho and the main article of combat for the duelo criollo. When used in this context, one hand held the knife, and the poncho was wrapped about the opposite arm to absorb cuts and stabs.
Es el cuchillo gaucho . Sobre el origen del nombre existen distintas conjeturas, la más acertada es la que indica que proviene del idioma portugués, en el que "faca" es "cuchillo" y, por lo tanto, "facón" sería su aumentativo "cuchillo grande".
Se define básicamente como arma de defensa o combate, aunque el gaucho también los haya utilizado para otros menesteres: terminar o faenar una res, cazar o cuerear, e incluso para comer.
La historia cuenta que los paisanos ricos los tenían con hoja de plata y empuñadura con iniciales grabadas en oro o plata, mientras que los peones de campo lo confeccionaban con hojas de correas elásticas de carros, limas viejas en desuso y con empuñaduras de asta de huesos de animales o con naipes yuxtapuestos que les brindaba solidez.
En resumen, el facón era, antes que nada, una formidable arma de combate, que nuestro gauchos esgrimieron con habilidad para defenderse hasta de las lanzas indias o de los sables militares.

La curruca capirotada (Sylvia atricapilla) es una especie de ave paseriforme del género Sylvia dentro de la familia Sylviidae. Es un pájaro de pequeño tamaño de color sobrio y discreto, canto agradable, vuelo ágil, comportamiento activo e inquieto, que se alimenta de insectos y frutas. Habita principalmente en sotobosques y está ampliamente distribuido por Europa. Se trata de una curruca frecuente, y localmente abundante, que está muy repartida por toda España. Descripción Mide entre 13 y 15 cm de longitud, con una envergadura de entre 20 y 23 cm, y un peso de unos 14 a 20 g. Presenta el cráneo levemente aplanado. El pico (en ambos sexos adultos) es negruzco con la mandíbula inferior gris pizarra. Los tarsos y los pies son gris azulado. El iris es de 3,5 mm de diámetro y de color castaño. Plumaje A simple vista tiene un aspecto discreto e insignificante, ya que la sobriedad de su plumaje le permite pasar desapercibido para todo aquel que no haya aprendido a identificarlo, que lo confundirán con el gorrión común cada vez que se lo crucen fugazmente en su camino (ocurriendo esto más veces de lo que cabe imaginarse). El macho, para quien sabe identificar esta especie, resulta inconfundible; el macho adulto presenta sus partes superiores (laterales de la cabeza, del cuello y el pecho) de color verde oliva, o bien puede describirse como un tono pardo grisáceo. El obispillo es gris claro. El vientre blanco. Su cola y las alas son de un gris negruzco. El píleo y la frente son de color negro brillante.2 La hembra se diferencia del macho principalmente por el píleo que es pardo o castaño rojizo. El resto de las partes superiores son pardo oliváceas, y en los lados de la cara hay un tinte grisáceo. El pecho y los flancos son de un tono más pálido, algunas veces con un tinte gris, pero siempre se presenta con un color más pardo que el del macho. Los ejemplares inmaduros son similares a las hembras adultas, con el capirote castaño jengibre. Tal vez se pueda apreciar en la espalda y dorso de las alas un tinte más rojizo que en los adultos. El color de las partes inferiores, como son el pecho y los flancos, se presentan considerablemente más oscuros que en los adultos. Nota: Apenas se observan diferencias entre las distintas subespecies de Sylvia atricapilla, no obstante, morfológicamente sí que podrían encontrarse leves diferencias fácilmente apreciables. Es una especie forestal que cría en terrenos arbolados, umbríos y con denso sotobosque, aunque también pueden hacerlo en parques y jardines con abundante maleza, ya que siempre van de copa en copa, de mata en mata, e inquietamente de rama en rama. Ejemplos donde estas currucas se desarrollan son los robledales, fresnedas y otras formaciones de planifolios. También habitan bosques de coníferas, quejigares y bosques mixtos, monte bravío, huertos de frutales y también olivares. Evitan zonas muy secas por ello son frecuentes en la vegetación de riberas, junto a los arroyos, donde los índices de humedad son mayores y donde los árboles se presentan más desarrollados. Cuando las ciudades ofrecen mayor cantidad de alimento, o por motivos climáticos, etc., recurren a estas, pasando desapercibidas por ser desconfiadas y a la vez activas. Altitudinalmente esta especie ocupa rangos muy dispares, desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1.500 m (en Tenerife), incluso 1.700 m en Pirineos centrales o los 1.800 en el Sistema Central y 1.850 m en las Cordilleras Béticas. Alimentación Fruto del espino común. La curruca capirotada se alimenta de insectos, fruta cultivada y bayas o frutos silvestres. Durante la primavera se centra básicamente en la captura coleópteros y dípteros, aunque no son estos los únicos insectos que caen presa de este pajarillo. A partir del nacimiento de sus pollos se dedican a recoger infinidad de pequeñas orugas y larvas, mas estos también son cebados con cerezas, higos y otros frutos silvestres del tiempo. Durante el invierno ingieren gran cantidad de manzana, aprovechándose de las cosechas más próximas lo que les permite resistir el invierno sin apenas moverse de zonas reducidas. Les gustan los frutos de la hiedra, así como las bayas de las plantas de adorno que encuentran en jardines o parques. Presentes en su dieta podrían estar, el saúco, el espino, el aligustre, la rosa silvestre, la zarzamora, la madreselva, el tejo, el acebo, etc., sintiendo especial predilección por todos ellos. Nido Curruca con hierba seca en el pico para construir su nido. El nido es una construcción muy pobre, "transparente", ligero y escaso en materiales. Normalmente es el macho quien elige el lugar de emplazamiento colocando allí dos o tres hierbas secas, aunque es la hembra quien principalmente lo construye. Entre el macho y la hembra consiguen terminarlo en unos 3 o 5 días generalmente. Los materiales de construcción usados por esta curruca son básicamente hierbas secas, musgo, y raicillas, estando forrado interiormente con pelos y hierba más fina, para lograr un cierto confort. Se localizan escondidos en arbustos u otra maleza, sujetos en ramas débiles y a una altura del suelo que no suele bajar de 80 cm ni subir por encima del 1,70 m. Los polluelos permanecen en el nido durante un periodo de tiempo que oscila en unos 11 y 14 días.Enfermedades Los parásitos que hospedan a Sylvia atricapilla son motivo de las posibles distintas enfermedades infecciosas que pueden afectar a estas aves. Un ejemplo es el parásito de la malaria de la curruca capirotada, que puede hacer bastante daño a la especie si su capacidad de transmisión y dispersión se presenta con demasiada potencia y facilidad. Predadores Como toda pequeña ave de sotobosque, desde que es un simple polluelo la curruca capirotada puede ser presa de todo tipo de vertebrados, pues reptiles, diferentes pequeños mamíferos, y otras aves (como una simple urraca), codician este tipo de capturas. También el ser humano puede convertirse en un "predador parcial" para un gran número de especies de aves, entre ellas la curruca capirotada, pues el dulce canto de estas aves las hace muy atractivas para mantenerlas en cautiverio, y existen todo tipo de prácticas ilegales por medio de las que se captura con redes y otros sistemas a estos pajarillos
Even I had to catch my breath in awe and had to scratch my head when I found this antique timepiece at an auction. I knew I just had to bring it home. It is in a perpetual state of rigor mortis. But ever as exquisite and beautiful, or at least close to being what it once looked like...
This is the closest I could get to an era when time was held precious, when time was unhurried unlike of today... Perhaps a period when every advance of the hands signified what a golden age was...

I had a shoot yesterday that was billed as a competition between photographers, sort of a "Battle to Win". However, since it took place in the hard core inner city--shooting amongst graffiti laced walls while dodging traffic--I prefer to call this competition 'Urban Combat'.
There were about a dozen photographers and an equal number of models, however as I worked with just a few models, I will post images from those 4 here.

Note: We were officially allowed to submit 2 pics per model we'd shot with, however at least half of the other photographers went overboard and flaunted the rules entirely, some posting 4, 5, or even 7 pics of several of their models! C'est la vie.

The organizer had a change of heart and thanks to the help of another photographer has decided to let me back in to the competition, saying something about it not being fair to the models if I was not part of this. However, I still have no answers for what happened earlier. :-(

Valle de Hecho (Val d'Echo en aragonés) es un municipio del partido judicial de Jaca, provincia de Huesca. Pertenece a la comarca de la Jacetania.
La capital del municipio se encuentra en la población de Hecho (Echo en aragonés). Otras localidades pertenecientes al término municipal de Valle de Hecho son: Siresa (Ziresa en aragonés), Embún, Urdués y Santa Lucía. Hasta finales del siglo XX, el nombre del municipio era Hecho.
La vitalidad de las gentes del valle se muestra a través de la vida cotidianda y de sus constumbres. La fabla chesa, el folclore, la gastronomía, las fiestas... se miman y celebran para disfrute de vecinos, visitantes y amigos.

Clotil en grande, para no perderse detalle. Large view.
Apacible tarde de Domingo, idónea para el paseo por uno de los lugares favoritos de Clotil, el Castillo de Zamora y su entorno. El paseo era agradable, con Clotil vestidita con su polo de Lacoste y feliz con unos globos que le había comprado a un mimo que estaba enfrente de la Iglesia de San Idelfonso y que imitaba a la perfección a Herminio Ramos.
Yo me las prometía feliz, ya pensando en mi jugosa cena, dos huevos fritos acompañado del chorizito del pueblo y un trozo de queso curado de entrepinares.
Al ver el interior del castillo se me ocurrió hacer una foto panorámica (la que subí esta mañana), y le pedí a Clotil que me vigilase la mochila al ver que había númerosos turistas por la zona.
Todo contento por las fotos realizadas me doy la vuelta y allí no estaban ni Clotil ni el menor rastro de mi mochila.
Atisbo el horizonte y alcanzo a ver a Clotil chocando su ala con un par de turístas. Como alma que lleva el diablo corro raudo y veloz al encuentro del peculiar trío, pero para mi llegada Clotil ya se había esfumado como de costumbre. La mochila seguía allí, uno de los turístas la tiene en sus manos y yo le pido que me la devuelva, pero el hombre me dice que si la quiero son 50€, que Clotil se la había vendido a ellos por 40€. No me queda otra porque dentro tengo mi objetivo 55-200mm y algún que otro filtro.
Todo esto me pasa porque cuando pasabamos por Santa Clara no quise comprarle a Clotil en Zara un vestidito de verano muy florido y colorido porque valía 40€ y le dije que para 4 ratos no se lo compraba. Al final, supongo que consiguió lo suyo y además le dará sus huevos a Amancio Ortega, que es el hombre que más aprecia esta gallina presumida.
Domingo por la noche ya, 50€ menos en el bolsillo y lo que es peor, voy a preparar algo de cena y me tendré que conformar con un trozo de queso y una longaniza de chorizo. Mis huevos ya los estará saboreando en Arteixo el señor Ortega, que es lo que comen los ricos, los huevos de Clotil.

San Lorenzo 2008 - Huesca (Spain).
According to the tradition, the eve of the 10 of August a member of a group is raised to place in the statue of the saint the typical green "pañoleta" (kerchief). This statue is at considerable height, on the entrance of the Church of San Lorenzo.

Saint Lawrence (c. 225 – 258) (Latin: Laurentius, meaning "laurelled") was one of the seven deacons of ancient Rome who were martyred during the persecution of Roman Emperor Valerian in the year 258.
The "Acts" of St Lawrence were lost by the time of Saint Augustine, one of whose sermons on Saint Lawrence (Sermo 302, de Sancto Laurent.) admits that his narration was gained from tradition instead of reciting the Acts as was his preferred custom. Such early legends made Lawrence a native of Huesca (Roman Osca) in Hispania Tarraconensis who had received religious instruction from Archdeacon Sixtus in Rome. When Sixtus became Bishop of Rome in 257, Lawrence was ordained a deacon and was placed in charge of the administration of Church goods and care for the poor. For this duty, he is regarded as one of the first archivists and treasurers of the Church and was made the patron of librarians.
According to lore, among the treasure of the Roman church entrusted to Lawrence for safe-keeping was the Holy Chalice, the cup from which Jesus and the Apostles drank at the Last Supper. Lawrence was able to spirit this away to Huesca with a letter and a supposed inventory, where it lay hidden and unregarded for centuries.
By tradition, Lawrence was sentenced at San Lorenzo in Miranda, martyred at San Lorenzo in Panisperna, and buried in the Via Tiburtina in the Catacomb of Cyriaca by Hippolytus and Justinus, a presbyter. Tradition holds that Lawrence was burned or "grilled" to death, hence his association with the gridiron. During his torture Lawrence cried out "This side’s done, turn me over and have a bite. (Assum est, inquit, versa et manduca.)".

San Lorenzo fue uno de los siete diáconos de Roma, ciudad donde fue martirizado con una parrilla en 258. En latín se llamaba Laurentius (‘laureado’).
Se sitúa el nacimiento de Lorenzo de Roma en Huesca, en la Hispania Tarraconensis. Cuando en 257 Sixto fue nombrado papa, Lorenzo fue ordenado diácono, y encargado de administrar los bienes de la Iglesia y el cuidado de los pobres. Por esta labor, es considerado uno de los primeros archivistas y tesoreros de la Iglesia, y es el patrón de los bibliotecarios.
La leyenda dice que entre los tesoros de la Iglesia confiados a Lorenzo se encontraba el Santo Grial (la copa usada por Jesús y los Apóstoles en la Última Cena) y que consiguió enviarlo a Huesca, junto a una carta y un inventario, donde fue escondido y olvidado durante siglos.
Según la leyenda, Lorenzo fue quemado vivo en una hoguera, concretamente en una parrilla, cerca del Campo de verano, en Roma. Se dice que en medio del martirio, exclamó: Assum est, inqüit, versa et manduca (‘asado estoy, denme vuelta y coman’). Se considera que este hecho fue creado por los hagiógrafos, ya que no hubo testigos cristianos.

The mission of the supermarket, like everything in our modern culture, is supposedly dedicated to one end: choice. Sad to say it is not so much for your choice; rather it is the retailer's. It turns out that each inch of space is scientifically calibrated to hold only what you will buy at the highest possible margin. Consumer attention is "malleable," according to some researchers who investigated "space elasticity," and whose study sought to "parameterise a model that allows us to compute an upward bound on the returns that might accrue to an 'optimal' shelf set."
On the other hand, here I've compiled the 10 interesting games you can play in a supermarket:
1. Take shopping carts for the express purpose of filling them and stranding them at strategic locations.
2. Ride those little electronic cars at the front of the store.
3. Set all the alarm clocks to go off at ten minute intervals throughout the day.
4. When someone asks if you need help, begin to cry and ask, "Why won't you people just leave me alone?"
5. Play with the automatic doors.
6. As the cashier runs your purchases over the scanner, look mesmerized and say, "Wow. Magic!"
7. Try on bras over top of your clothes.
8. Get boxes of Condoms and randomly put them in peoples carts when they don't realize it.
10. Look right into the security camera, and use it as a mirror while you pick your nose.

S / S Göran was built in the old shipyard at Övermo and was completed in 1881, Göran was used to float timber. On June 16, 1916 a 20-year-old stoker was killed in a boiler explosion on Göran. The boat was salvaged, restored and used until the floating stopped 1970th.

A 365 project first for me, which I am not entirely sure I should be ashamed or inspired. Today was a blah day, until one of my friends decided that he wanted to meet up and shoot some pictures around town. Now while thats all hunky dory, he wanted to go to the UW-Arboretum: with the rains and excessive humidity we have had recently I gave him plenty of warning that the bugs would be bad. He ignored my warning and we met up, thankfully he brought insect spray for I have none myself. We trekked through the woods stirring up plenty of bugs, mosquitos were the main concern and they definately made their presence known. Within ten minutes of walking, we stopped in the path to snap a few frames of some mushrooms growing in a neat pattern along the trunk of a slowly dying tree. This was quite the mistake; as we walked closer the tree a swarm of at least two dozen mosquitos came from underneath and started to attack us. We ran from the tree, and back to the path waving our tripods in the air to battle these blood sucking bastards. Eventually we gave in and decided that we would find the way back to our cars, and venture somewhere the bugs had not infested the surroundings with the intent of eating us alive.
We agreed to meet off Bedford for it was free parking, for at least two hours anyway: Also far enough from the majority of the craziness of move-in weekend on campus. I took what I thought would be the easiest way down, which turned out to be a series of unfortunately events. Turns out a train bad back up along the North Shore corridor and at that North Shore was my route to Bedford. Driving aimlessly, I found myself squirming with an upset stomach and decided to just find my way home. Once home I proceeded to take a nap, for three hours: being excessive lazy or maybe just not able to catch up on sleep from the previous nights accounts of being up til 3a.m. I am not entirely sure which one it was.
The light was still overcast, a dark ominus gray covered the sky and I figured there wasnt much going to happen for a sunset but I drove West anyway. Struggling to find a nice vantage point over the main highway to the West, I pulled my car off the road and walked to an overpass and started shooting. Trying all sorts of lenses to see what I could pull into the frame or select FROM the frame that was the most enjoyable for my eyes. As it turns out the skys dull red started to fade, into a multi-tude of blues, grays, and reds. My 18mm was the onlens thatt I could find that was able to capture a good portion of the image, which leads me to the confession.
Tonights image is a first for me, a panoramic: now maybe you read the stories or maybe just look at the tags, or simply just the picture. But this for me is as ground breaking as was when I broke down last summer and cropped an image. Something I swear by that Id never do in my project, as it breaks the rules via POD "picure of the day," should really only be ONE frame. But alas my friend Brian helped me break down and realize that if I wanted a winner shot to remember today by, it was definately the pano. These two shots are seemed together with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, seemlessly a SOOC: but there was a slight contrast adjust with the right side. We debated back and forth for a good 30 minutes if it was the clouds or a slight change in exposure, until I managed to get the right adjust on the contrast. The only way that I could have done this shot without having to do a pano was if I had a full frame sensor and had used my 18mm for one shot vs two, but heck sometimes the cheaper alternative wins.

The Frill-necked Lizard, or Frilled Lizard also known as the Frilled Dragon, (Chlamydosaurus kingii) is so called because of the large ruff of skin which usually lies folded back against its head and neck. The neck frill is supported by long spines of cartilage, and when the lizard is frightened, it gapes its mouth showing a bright pink or yellow lining, and the frill flares out, displaying bright orange and red scales. The frill may also aid in thermoregulation.
Adult frill-necked lizards may grow up to one metre in total length. They often walk quadrupedally when on the ground. When frightened they begin to run on all-fours and then accelerate onto the hind-legs. In Australia, the frill-necked lizard is also known as the "bicycle lizard" because of this behaviour. Males are significantly larger than females both as juveniles and when mature. The frill of the Australian frilled dragon is used to scare off potential predators — as well as hissing and lunging. If this fails to ward off the threat, the lizard flees bipedally to a nearby tree where it climbs to the top and relies on camouflage to keep it hidden.

CASTELLANO
El clamidosaurio (Chlamydosaurus kingii) es un reptil que habita en el sur de Nueva Guinea, norte y oeste de Australia. Es también conocido con el nombre de "clamidosaurio de King".
Como característica particular, cabe destacar una porción de piel que descansa detrás de su cabeza y sobre su lomo, una especie de collar con largas espinas de cartílago que se abre cuando se siente amenazado.
El clamidosaurio llega a medir unos ochenta centímetros de largo, siendo los machos bastante más grandes que las hembras. Es carnívoro y pasa gran parte del tiempo en los árboles al acecho. Su sentido de la vista es muy desarrollado, siendo capaz de capturar un insecto cuando pasa delante de él.
Este animal posee una gran capacidad de adaptación al medio ambiente. Los científicos australianos notaron que aprovechaba los constantes incendios del norte de Australia: después de un incendio, su estómago es capaz de alojar presas de mayor tamaño a las que captura habitualmente. Si bien muchos de estos reptiles mueren en los incendios, los sobrevivientes prefieren quedarse en la zona devastada para conseguir más fácilmente su alimento.

Diwali,or Deepawali, (also called Tihar and Swanti in Nepal) is a major Indian and Nepalese festive holiday, and a significant festival in Hinduism and some of the other faiths which originated in India - Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Light," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. The festival is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal, particularly the Newar Buddhists.The Sanskrit word Deepavali means an array of lights that stands for victory of brightness over darkness. As the knowledge of Sanskrit diminished, the name was popularly modified to Diwali, especially in northern India. The word "Divali/Diwali" is a corruption of the Sanskrit word "Deepavali" (also transliterated as "Dipavali"). Deepa/dipa means "light of the dharma", and avali means "a continuous line". The more literal translation is "rows of clay lamps".

Ronda, Málaga (Spain).

Ronda is a city in the Spanish province of Málaga. It is located about 100 km from the city of Málaga, within the autonomous community of Andalucía. Its population is 35,512. It is also accessible by rail from Algeciras and from Córdoba.
Ronda is situated in a very mountainous area about 750 m above mean sea level. The Rio Guadalevín runs through the city, dividing it in two and carving out the steep El Tajo canyon upon which the city is perched. Ronda was first settled by the early Celts, but its Roman and then Moorish rulers are reflected most prominently in its architecture. The forces of Catholic Spain took control of the town in 1485.
Three bridges, Puente Romano ("Roman Bridge", also known as the Puente San Miguel), Puente Viejo ("Old Bridge", also known as the Puente Arabe or "Arab Bridge") and Puente Nuevo ("New Bridge"), span the canyon. The term "nuevo" is a bit of a misnomer, since this bridge was completed in 1793. The Puente Nuevo is the tallest of the bridges, towering 120 meters above the canyon floor, and all three serve as some of the city's most impressive features.
Another important site in Ronda is the Plaza de Toros, the oldest bullfighting ring in Spain that is still used, albeit infrequently. It was built in 1784 in the Neoclassical style by the architect José Martin de Aldehuela, who also designed Puente Nuevo.
The partially intact baños árabes ("Arab baths") are found below the city and date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Both Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles resided in Ronda for many years, and both wrote about its beauty, contributing to its popularity.
Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls describes the murder of Nationalist sympathizers early in the Spanish Civil War by being thrown from the cliffs of El Tajo by the Republican forces.
The name of the eponimous Jewish hero of George Eliot's well-known novel Daniel Deronda seems to indicate that his ancestors lived in Ronda prior to the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492.
The Spanish Fir (Abies pinsapo) is endemic to the mountains surrounding Ronda.

Ronda es una ciudad perteneciente a la comunidad autónoma de Andalucía, situada en el noroeste de la provincia de Málaga (España). Es la capital de la comarca de la Serranía de Ronda.
La ciudad se asienta sobre una meseta rocosa a 739 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Está dividida en dos partes por un cañón, conocido como el Tajo de Ronda, por el que discurre el río Guadalevín afluente del río Guadiaro. A continuación de la garganta del tajo propiamente dicha también se extiende el tajo sobre el valle de los Molinos. Al este de la ciudad se encuentra el parque natural de la Sierra de las Nieves, al sur el Valle del Genal, al oeste la Sierra de Grazalema y al norte otras tierras más llanas en dirección a Campillos.
Aunque en el entorno de la ciudad se han encontrado restos prehistóricos que se remontan al Neolítico entre los que destacan las pinturas rupestres de la Cueva de la Pileta, los orígenes de Ronda son celtas quienes en el siglo VI a.C. la llamaron Arunda. Posteriormente los fenicios se instalaron en una aldea cercana que llamaron Acinipo. Arunda, tras ser conquistada por los griegos, pasó a denominarse Runda.
Pero Ronda como tal fue fundada como consecuencia de la Segunda Guerra Púnica, durante la campaña que el general romano Escipión llevó a cabo contra los cartagineses que dominaban la Hispania a finales del siglo III a.C. Es entonces cuando se mandó construir el castillo de Laurus el cual favoreció el asentamiento de la población a su alrededor y alcanzando en tiempos de Julio César el rango de ciudad alcanzado sus habitantes, y los de la vecina Acinipo, la cualidad de ciudadanos romanos.
En el siglo V, con el fin del Imperio Romano, la ciudad es tomada por los suevos al mando de Rechila, pasando después por un período bizantino, en el que Acinipo fue definitivamente abandonado, hasta que Leovigildo la integró en el reino visigodo.
En el 711 se produce la invasión musulmana de la península y, en 713, la actual Ronda abre sus puertas, sin presentar batalla, al jefe bereber Zaide Ben Kesadi El Sebseki. La ciudad pasa a denominarse Izn-Rand Onda (la ciudad del castillo) convirtiéndose en la capital la capital de la provincia Andalusí de Takurunna.
Con la desintegración del califato de Córdoba, Ronda se convierte en un reino de Taifas independiente regido por Abu Nur Hilal Ben Abi Qurra, y será durante este periodo cuando se crea la mayor parte del patrimonio monumental con que cuenta el casco histórico de Ronda y los arrabales. Abu Nur Hilal fue sucedido por su hijo Abú Nasar quien tras morir asesinado provocó que Ronda pasará a formar parte del reino sevillano de al- Muthadid
El periodo islámico de la ciudad finaliza cuando, el 22 de mayo de 1485, el rey Fernando el Católico logra tomarla tras un prolongado asedio. Tras la conquista muchos de los monumentos erigidos por los musulmanes son remodelados adecuándose a la nueva situación que vive la ciudad que inicia un nuevo florecimiento que la hace crecer extendiéndose en nuevos barrios como los del “Mercadillo” y “San Francisco”, pasando a conocerse el antiguo núcleo árabe como “La Ciudad”.
En 1572 se funda la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda con fines de entrenamiento para la defensa y las guerras del reino.
En el siglo XVIII la ciudad vive una etapa de importantes construcciones entre las que destacan el Puente Nuevo, que ha pasado a considerarse el símbolo de la ciudad, y la Plaza de toros.
A partir de esa época se crean los mitos románticos de bandoleros y toreros. El Castillo del Laurel, alcazaba de Ronda, es derribado por los franceses en su retirada. Durante los siglos XIX y XX la actividad económica de Ronda sigue siendo principalmente rural, siendo el punto de encuentro para los habitantes de los pueblos de la Serranía y teniendo momentos de esplendor a principios del siglo XX con la llegada del ferrocarril.
En 1918 se celebra la Asamblea de Ronda en la que se fijó el actual diseño de la Bandera, el Himno de Andalucía y su escudo. En esa época se empieza a consolidar la Caja Ahorros de Ronda que ha impulsado fuertemente la economía de la ciudad hasta su desaparición en 1990 al fusionarse con otras entidades bancarias en Unicaja.

Well I think I would say Traffic Chaos. There are so many diversions and roadblocks that even if you have lived your entire life there in the neighborhood you have a good chance of getting lost. I was lost, driving and I was in front of a road block barricade and an officer next to it. I asked him for directions and he kindly gave me the same. The directions involved crossing a one-way street. Unbeknowest to that officer, there was another one in my way, right in the middle of the road, parked car with lights on asking me to turn around. Thanks to the One way, I couldnt get back to the same place again to ask to be rerouted (I should have taken the $10.99 GPS offer). Bottom line? Lets say, I saw the entire DC driving around in a couple of hours, unintentionally :D
