I found that the pharmacies were well built and solid. Except of course the traditional medicine store which was just another open stand.

Remembering Jim Wilson, RPh, first AFAM member of the La. Board of Pharmacy (he's listed in "Noteable Black Americans"), who died on my 57th Birthday, April 26, 2014. He not only signed my license in 1980, he called me personally to say I'd passed the board! (So, excited, I didn't bother to ask the score, and up to today, still don't know it. lol) I also can't help but remember my true pharmacist mentor, Anthony Chappell who died in 2011. I worked at his drug store on Martin Luther King Ave. in New Orleans for most of my student intern days. He not only taught me how to be an effective pharmacist, he also taught me about life (like bartering for your a good price for your car! lol). Both our sons are pharmacists now (graduated same class) - and I can remember when Anthony Jr was born (to his wife Brenda also a pharmacist mentor) - I left my office at XU and took over the counter, quckly sending Chap over to the hospital to greet his wife and new son. And now I had the honor of helping Chap Jr through his school journey. I also still have the dropper bottle of normal saline drops we made for my infant son at D&H Drugs when he had nasal congestion. Chap Sr and Jim were fraternity brothers in Chi Delta Mu grad; Chap Jr. was a fraternity brother through Kappa Psi. RIP Jim and Chap.
