Aerial view of a portion of Las Vegas. Makes it look like just another normal city in America. The Strip is just off to the left from this vantage.

See where this picture was taken. [?]

A perfect afternoon to lie back in the hills and watch the clouds go by. (Until the pesky insects move in course lol.) Its amazing what a few hours can do, earlier on it was very dull, grey and overcast.

Sunset Variations No. 1

I just received an email update about this picture from another website where I've got this posted and I then went to have a look at it here on Flickr only to discover that I've never uploaded it here.

Now this may be overkill because I already have 3 pictures posted that were taken around this pier at the same time (it was what the military might call a target rich enviroment :-)) but this was the first and original one to be processed and I was really pleased with the result.

The back story? We were in Blackpool to visit the zoo in the day and do the lights in the evening. We headed to the front after the zoo visit and stepped into a glorious sunset. By this time my very tolerant partner was finally losing her patience with all of the picture taking so I had to quickly blast off a load of pictures from various different points and just hope for the best, and it worked! There's nothing like a bit of pressure to focus the mind :-) (And the post processing)

Thanks for visiting

The Wimmenumermolen polder mill is a windmill which grinds water from a polder. Water is pumped by a scoop rad or by a jack (propeller of Archimedes) from the polder. This type of mill is still working especially in the lower layer polder areas of West - and the Nothern part of Holland.

Beginning of May it's was more than 29 degrees. When I wanted to shoot this photo the owner of this windmill Eric Zwijnenberg just arrived with his little boat. He went to the cheese market in Alkmaar by boat. I didn't know it was Eric Zwijnenberg. Eric did comment on my previous windmill photo, I never met him. Quiet a coincidence. He showed us his windmill where he lives. Please see photo's below too.

I had the opportunity to be a photographer for the Reeds Jewelers Ring Race this past weekend and since it was such a perfect day out there I took the opportunity to take some shots of my own as well...

Scafell from Wasdalehead, Lake District - 1st August 2005.

Time to raid the archives again ...

What I wrote back then:

"We arrived back at Wasdalehead in time to catch the last of the warm summer light, before the sun disappeared behind the surrounding hills and suddenly plunged the valley bottom into cool shadow. The four girls were sitting in their tent, chattering happily about the things we had done and seen. They were so at ease in each other's company that you would have thought they were sisters, rather than pairs of cousins who only saw each other a couple of times each year.

"Laura came over to me and said quietly 'Have you seen the hill up there Uncle Mike?'

I turned to see Scafell* covered in dark cloud, but with a patch of brilliant sunlight racing up its shoulder.

"Grabbing my camera, we both ran to get a clearer view, just in time to see the sun light up one of the lower crags. I snatched a photo as the light disappeared, hoping that I had caught the moment.

"The perfect end to a perfect day".

Another perfect day! Began with meeting a flickr friend I had never met before. Walking, talking, and photographing. She shared amazing places to photograph and helped me learn more about the flickr world. Then, I went cranberry picking with another flickr friend who took an amazing pic of low bush cranberries. www.flickr.com/photos/alaskanshelly/3898606445/

I think we get more beautiful days with clear skies throughout the year and it seems you can see far and wide forever as long as you want to enjoy such scenes. That is nature's prerogative!

There are a lot of hikes at Bryce Canyon National Park. We didn't get to hit many of them during our first trip to the park, but a particular hike, the "Navajo Loop - Peek-A-Boo" trail is one that stole our hearts. The switchbacks seen here are a part of the initial 600 ft drop into the basin/wash. The walls suck you right on down, as you glare at the hoodoo shapes and texture. It's quite the experience!

While travelling in Hualien county in Taiwan I went up a high hill in a town called Fuli. The view was amazing, like from a childrens book!

Every year there are flower festivals in Taiwan. On this photo you see the Sixty Stone Mountain. I really recommend to go there and smell pure nature.

The end of another beautiful day in America's finest City, San Diego. I took two pictures of this tree today. One in the morning and this one near sunset. I wanted to see how the scene and mood change based solely on the position of the sun and the intensity of the sunlight.

Each year the University Circle area in Cleveland has its Parade on the Circle, which is the City's most colorful event. It is extremely well attended (over 70,000 people), especially if it is a nice day, and yesterday was a perfect day, as you can see in this photograph. This is one of over 500 shots I took at the parade. Please view in large size to see the details of this scene.
