The perfect day in Dartmoor National Park at a pond between Hay Tor and Saddle Tor.

Enjoy the last Monday of the Month... and happy new week...

It frames the Chamonix Aiguilles perfectly...

after our Kings Park Psych adventure, we found ourselves walking along a beautiful beach... never knew was there...

it was low tide and this boat was having an issue being stuck on the sand... hope they weren't planning a boat outing at this time!

If it weren't that we ran into one of David's friends... we would have never known about this beach and enjoyed our private tour!

When it's not always raining there'll be days like this

When there's no one complaining there'll be days like this

When everything falls into place like the flick of a switch

Well my mama told me there'll be days like this

When you don't need to worry there'll be days like this

When no one's in a hurry there'll be days like this

When all the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit

Then I must remember there'll be days like this ... (Van Morrison)

Lou Reed - Perfect day

Our Zachary has a ball at our house... and without his brother, there's no fighting!!

Day 2 of my Scottish trip started soon after 4am, which was earlier enough to catch this sunrise from Firemore beach across Loch Ewe. On the other side of this sea loch is the peninsula of Rubha Mor, and you can just make out the northen tip of the Isle of Ewe. In the distance on the right you can just see the tops of An Teallach and Sail Mhor with low cloud swirling around the tops. Loch Ewe still has a refuelling station for the Royal Navy, and not far to the north of where this picture was taken you can still see the remains of the gun batteries that protected the entrance to the loch during WW2.

Life can get better, but for now, this is as close to perfection as it gets for me...

I was hoping for an altogether different picture as I went out shooting for wildlife. In the end I came back with a totally different picture - funny that :)

Port Jefferson, LI

...and this is why I love Long Island... it doesn't get better than this!!

Port Jefferson is a beautiful, historic town located on the North Shore of Long Island where the smell of salt in the air and the sound of the Long Island Ferry is never too far in the distance. This waterfront town was settled in the 1600s as a rural town, but transitioned into a shipbuilding center in the 1800s.

Many of the historic buildings and homes still standing in Port Jefferson belonged to prominent sailors and shipbuilders in the area. Visitors to the town can still take in a slice of history at buildings like the Village Center. The Village Center was formerly a shipyard, where builders worked tirelessly to create and immediately launch ships into the Long Island Sound.

Today, Port Jefferson is widely known as a popular tourist spot in Suffolk County, as well as a transport hub thanks to the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, which takes hundreds of passengers to and from Connecticut each day. Port Jeff is busiest in the summer, but it also draws many tourists for unique events like the Charles Dickens Festival, which is held every December.

It may seem odd to say we were looking for trees in the forest but that's exactly what we did today. It was a gorgeous winter morning - cold, with intermittent sun, and a fresh snowfall. A perfect day to get outside and capture a scene with an eye to a new (to us) editing technique in Photoshop.

Even better - it's local, so we could be here within the confines of the current lockdown.

Wahey! Managed to recover my fluffed shots so I get the classic image to add to my collection after all. Took a fair bit of cloning and cleaning but got there in the end. Pity about the peeps but hey, scale.

I Google'd this and not surprisingly found hundreds of near identical images. Hey-ho. Couldn't not do it though, could I?

So.. lots of pictures taken with the X-E1, stitched in Microsoft ICE and then cleaned and tweaked in a bunch of other software. Threw in a shade of cross processing for that edgy, ain't I a cool dude look. Does it suit me?

Thanks for visiting and please come again soon.. no really..

Go on, dare you :D

perfect day. Although I took lots of shots showing the autumn colors, river, hills, valleys and berries - this was my favorite.

I wanted to recommend the film Perfect Days to everyone. Though it's another film directed by Wim Wenders, it is set in Tokyo and features an all Japanese cast, most notably Koji Yakusho as the lead. There is quite a bit of the visual concept of komorebi or “sunlight leaking through trees" as well as appreciating the sights and sounds and random bits of nature and people in each day. Each morning, Yakusho hears the street sweeper, sees the morning light (unless it's raining) and tends to his Japanese maple plants. The film eases you into his modest peaceful routine but there is some conflict along the way and you get to see the full range of human emotion.

Anyway, a coworker has been giving me an amaryllis bulb each year. I don't have to tend to it like my other plants (of which you can see in the shadows), but I do have to put it up high as it is toxic to cats. So, it sits on the highest bookshelf watching us lift our heads to admire how it grows. These bulbs needed to be cut today and I thought it would make not just a good photograph but a document of my life in terms of every day moments I experience.

I just want to mention again that I feel this film is an absolute masterpiece and, if I had been able to see it last year when it initially came out (It hit theaters here on Friday at The Music Box in Chicago), I would have definitely included it in my favorite films of 2023. Still, it's nice to have a post all just for this film.

It was like a spring day in March.

No snow, sunshine, and pretty cold.

I miss the snow, though.

taken at Target Rock, Lloyd Harbor

Target Rock gets its name from a large boulder on the shore that was used by British warships for target practice during the Revolutionary War and possibly the War of 1812. The area is now Target Rock National Wildlife Refuge on Long Island, which was originally an estate donated to the government in 1967 by banker Ferdinand Eberstadt.

As I was mentioning to Mark, over on his blog ....I saw a big bumblebee on a blossom... dashed out with my camera...but.........he was already gone. Missed him. I haven't seen many bees this season .. hope more show up. With less traffic, less smog and less happening outside, you would think there would be more of them.

so....I just took some pics of the pretty ornamental crabapple blossoms instead.....

Great company on a favorite trail, fresh snowfall, crisp sunny air, and feeling your body warming with effort - these simple pleasures are not ones that we take for granted.

It had been a while and we were lucky enough to have a terrific day for it.

The bedroom is the coolest place. I had to put the clock radio on the floor so that Timmy has enough space 😊

thanks!

I don't know what these weeds are - perhaps someone can tell me. Either way, in such proliferation, they had a very pungent smell, the bees seemed to love them, and it made a picturesque setting against the blue skies of a sunny cool day. Perfect for a long walk!

A fabulous, rusty, old garden fence on a hot, sunny Spring afternoon - garden bliss. Happy Fence Friday! Have a wonderful weekend and holiday (if you're in the U.S.). :)

Finally the paddling season has started!

Yesterday the first paddling day, sunny +10, no wind, perfect :)

I have been away on holiday in Pembrokeshire and the highlight was a day on Skomer Island. Sorry to deluge you with so many shots - I took way too many and deleted loads but still got loads of shots to edit! Please don't feel you have to comment but if you do many thanks!
