This service was renumbered 77 from 777 on 29 May, with no change in route or timetable. The last major revision to the route occurred in June 2020 when it remerged from the first Covid lockdown without its prior routing via North Carlton and Broxholme, but with Long Leys and St Georges in Lincoln added on. One presumes the blind on this vehicle has yet to be updated.

When your PC starts its steady decline into sloth-like speeds, the first thing you’d love to do (besides beating it Office Space-style) is head straight to the mall for a fancy new machine. But the reality is there are easy changes you can make to speed up your computer.

4 Easy Ways to Speed Up Your PC

From startup to surfing to gaming, here are five ways you can clean up an old PC to make it look young again.

Speed Up Your Startup

If an entire pot of coffee can brew in the time it takes for your computer to boot, it’s time to make some changes. Most likely your computer is not slow – it’s the dozens of programs turning on during startup that are slowing it down.

Download a comprehensive tool like Autoruns to easily disable certain programs during your start up. Or try Windows’ slightly less thorough, built-in utility, MSConfig. To find it, go to Search or Run under Start and type “msconfig.” Under the “Startup” tab, uncheck the boxes of the programs you don’t need to run every time your computer is turned on, for instance, iTunes or your printer. If you don’t recognize a program, leave it be. Restart your computer and watch it fly.

Clear It Out

If painfully slow surfing is your main problem, there are a couple quick changes you can make.

Are you an Internet Explorer user? Get rid of it. Google Chrome is the best browser on the market now, known for speedy surfing. Under Chrome, go to Clear Browsing Data and check the boxes of temporary Internet files like cookies, cache, download history and browsing history.

To take further precaution, try a program like UPCleaner. The free software program removes temporary files from all of your browsers, as well as Windows and the registry, to make your PC run faster.

Slim Down

This involves more than just uninstalling programs you don’t use anymore. If you’re not totally committed to the usual suspects, like Windows Media Player and Microsoft Office, switch to something that requires less computing power. Free applications can easily replace go-to programs, while speeding up your PC and giving you additional features at the same time.

VLC Media Player is a lightweight, open source media player that rips DVDs, streams video and recognizes any unprotected media format. FoxIt Reader, an alternative to Adobe Reader, does more than just open PDFs all while using less RAM. Edit documents, open multiple PDFs in tabs and more. AbiWord, a free and open source word processor, and Apache’s Open Office, a free and open source full-fledge suite, can easily fill the void of Microsoft Office.

Automate Your Updates

Updates are annoying. It’s easy to click “remind me later” and avoid the notifications, until you’re so frustrated with your computer that you finally set aside an entire afternoon to update everything.

Let’s solve this. Go to My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates. Make sure this is set to Download and Install Automatically. To completely cover your bases, find out if any programs need to be updated manually by downloading Update Checker from FileHippo.com. The fast and free program scans your computer and reports back with any available updates in seconds.

Here's PC Coaches E400H FX13 ABN in Lincoln bus station, having run in with its last service of the day and now off to the PC Coaches depot on 1.7.21

Between taking this photo and the previous one of the Walk and Ride bus on the 49, I encountered two men at a stop on Newland hoping to catch a Stagecoach 2 to Branston. There was no info at the stop to inform people the diverted buses weren't calling at it - in fact it was nothing more than a shelter with a Covid notice stuck to it, so it was impossible to tell whether it was even in use or not (only a shelter, not even a bus stop flag). We went to the bus station and on the way were overtaken by an inbound 2 worked by 27637. On the walk they informed me they'd just come from the bus station, but abandoned it because the 2 wasn't listed on the departure boards. They got on 27637 when we caught it up at the bus station... where it promptly waited for twenty minutes. I had time to go and grab some shopping, return and it was still sat there.

Needless to say, passenger information on the whole diversion situation is quite lacking, and I still can't figure out if that stop on Newland is in use or not (it's meant to be served by the 100/106/107). There's no flag on it and no timetable either. I also don't know if the 2 is serving stops on Tentercroft Street... if it isn't then that's quite bad.

About Oldham Borough Police.

Oldham received a Charter of Incorporation in 1849 and the newly-elected town council immediately set about forming the Oldham Borough Police Force.

The new force consisted of a superintendent, a sergeant and 10 constables. The 12 men were to police the local population of 50,000. The superintendent - effectively the chief constable - was paid the princely sum of £100 per year.

Over the years the Oldham force produced several men who went on to be chief constables of larger forces. Perhaps the most famous officer was Robert Peacock who went on to command Manchester City Police for over 28 years.

Oldham Borough Police continued to serve the people of Oldham until 1969 when, along with 12 other forces, it became part of Lancashire Constabulary.

The area became the Oldham Division of Greater Manchester Police in 1974.
