PC U30B 2866 leads a Westbound Conrail freight at the station in Hornell, NY in August, 1977. This was my first visit to Hornell, and the action was non-stop between the CR and D&H trains. I was shooting Kodacolor print film with the old Graphlex camera. Quality is not the best, but you certainly can't get anything like this today, so I appreciate the images I have. The 2nd unit is the only GP35 that I am aware of to wear the Reading green scheme that was on the Reading GP39-2's and GP40-2's.
Another look at Penn Central's train #53 at the Massillon train station on a dreary day in late December 1969. Unlike most train stations in smaller cities, this one still stands and is in use. After no longer needed by the railroad, it has been an industrial hardware warehouse and is not an exotic artistic plant retail store (legal decorative plants, not where some of your minds went). Pretty good for a station built in 1870!
An attempt at HDR...

I got nothing on this weeks SNS, no location and no photographer to credit. I barely have a legible date, looks like May 1975 on the faded Kodak date stamp. Whoever did it wherever it was deserves kudos. 6423 leads 6343 in this fine view, Chuck Schwesinger collection. As Todd mentions below this is New Brighton PA by Walter Schopp
A couple of rare units parked behind the CR shops in Altoona, PA on May 27, 1978. PC 2855 is a U30B with the large PC herald applied to the nose that should have been on its flank. The 1264 is a rare EL GP9. The EL had many GP7's, but only 6 GP9's, all of Erie heritage. Looks like it is suffering from a bent frame. The NYC heritage of the 2855 is obvious.

CSXT local L063 (formerly known as DO-1) is on their way home to Rockingham Junction where the Portsmouth Branch meets the Portland Sub mainline with a lengthy train of empties from SEA-3 and Boise on the Newington Industrial Track. They are seen paused at about MP PMT5.1 on CSXT's Portsmouth Branch beyond the west end of the remains of the former Boston and Maine yard while the conductor makes a run into the trackside Dunkin before continuing their 10mph trip west.
Leading the train are MEC 517 and CSXT 2756. The former is a Pan Am blue GP40-2W blt. Apr. 1976 as CN 9660 and one of 20 acquired by Guilford a quarter century ago. Today it is one of a dwindling number of units CSXT inherited from Pan Am three and a half years ago that remain active. Even rarer is the trailing unit which is an EMD GP38-2 blt. Mar. 1973 for the Penn Central as PC 8148. It passed to Conrail and kept that number when later dressed in CR blue then came to CSXT at the split in 1999. Today it is the very last four axle unit on the roster wearing YN2 'bright future' paint and the last standard cab of any kind so dressed!
This particular stretch of track dates from 1840 and was originally the Boston to Portland mainline of the Eastern Railroad which was leased to the competing Boston and Maine in December 1883 then purchased it outright seven years later.
Note the new construction in the background. It is taking place on the North Mill Pond waterfront on former railroad land where the a crumbling three stall roundhouse and 65 ft turntable still survived until only a six or so months prior to this photo.

The memorial to PC Ian Broadhurst is on Dib Lane at the junction with Grange Park Avenue just off Easterly Road, close to the spot where he was shot on 26 December 2003.

BBC report on the jailing of David Bieber for life for the murder of PC Broadhurst.
Having made the 25 mile trip to the end of the line in South Barre and back Mass Central Railroad train PA-2 is almost done with their day as the arrive in Palmer with a healthy train of outbound interchange for the CSXT. They are pulling around the connection track to head east down the lead to CSXT's yard while in the foreground can be seen the diamond crossing of CSXT's Boston Sub mainline and the New England Central Railroad's Palmer Sub mainline (the former Boston and Albany and Central Vermont respectively).
MCER GP9 1749 (ex CO 6199 blt. Dec. 1956) and GP38-2 1751 (ex PC 7997 blt. Jun. 1972) are dressed in a sharp scheme that mirrors the original Boston and Maine bluebird colors debuted on their GP9 order of 1957.
