The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts.
The Mustang was designed in 1940 by North American Aviation (NAA) in response to a requirement of the British Purchasing Commission. The Purchasing Commission approached North American Aviation to build Curtiss P-40 fighters under license for the Royal Air Force (RAF).
Rather than build an old design from another company, North American Aviation proposed the design and production of a more modern fighter. The prototype NA-73X airframe was rolled out on 9 September 1940, 102 days after the contract was signed, and first flew on 26 October.

Oh happy days. A Dutch Navy P-3 landing at its home base Valkenburg. 311 still wears the first markings: large white serial number and 'V for Valkenburg'.
When A&P 221 opened in Marlton, NJ in November, 1975 the store had a circular storefront sign. When A&P switched to the capsule-shaped in 1976, this sign was changed soon afterward. This was one of the larger A&P stores opened during Jonathan L. Scott's tenure as CEO, whose strategy was to close many of A&P's smaller stores and operate less but larger locations. Coming from Albertson's, Scott was the first outsider hired to run the Company. The Price and Pride advertising campaign also was from this time. After closing as Super Fresh in January, 2013 this building is still vacant, awaiting redevelopment planned for 2015.
Solo KX64 AFA circles First Avenue on Deeside Industrial Estate with an F1 Deeside Shuttle service.
This vehicle was little seen prior to its acquisition earlier this year as since new it had ran mostly internally at the large Airbus site at nearby Broughton.
The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool will be holding an exhibition of my photographs 13 May to 25 September 2011.
The pictures were made in the city in 1975. I am very keen to find the people who I photographed then, with a view to possibly photographing them again.
