For this one I wanted to focus on the tangled vines and branches around the fence while having the windmill out of focus in the background. I thought about moving the one branch that was in front of the windmill but decided to leave it because I wanted the windmill to be in the photo but more of a background feature. I also liked the chaotic spread of the branches and don't think they made the picture too busy.

I figured I’d end up with a shot of a road sign by the time I was finished walking, and this ended up being it. This is a smaller and shorter stop sign, so it was easier for me to capture than a sign at average height (I’m short so I’m always looking up at them). This is another case of a bright color against a drab background, and I really enjoy it.

Leiden, Maresingel, The Netherlands, June 4, 2011. Blue VE1E. Second-calendar year Norwegian Lesser Black-backed Gull, moulting to second-winter plumage (second basic, second cycle). Active moult can be seen in the wings where primaries P1 to P6 are new second-generation featheres, P7 is half-grown, and P8 to P10 are old. Secondaries S1 to S3 are also new second-generation feathers.

De actieve rui is duidelijk waarneembaar in de vleugels waar handpennen P1 tot P6 nieuwe, tweede-generatie veren zijn, P7 half volgroeid is, en P8 tot P10 nog de oude, eerste-generatie veren zijn. Armpennen S1 tot S3 zijn ook nieuwe, tweede-generatie veren.

These are from the underside of a log splayed over a path, I thought they were really unique bits of wood and I love how the focus turned out!

Just like my setting sprays, I used three of my newest and now favorite lipsticks so the image wouldn't look too empty. I chose colors that really looked similar and complimented each other.

Scheveningen beach, The Netherlands, July 11, 2009. Flight-shot of a second-calendar year Herring Gull, moulting to second-winter plumage. P1-5 are new and fully grown, P6 is growing. P7 is missing while P8-10 are still juvenile. Note that the new primaries have a much rounder tip than the pointed old juvenile feathers. The central rectrices are juvenile, the other tail feathers are new second-generation feathers. Note the dark axillaries and wing coverts. The bill shows an extensive pink base.

Scheveningen strand, 11 juli 2009. Vliegbeeld van een tweede-kalenderjaar Zilvermeeuw ruiend naar tweede-winterkleed. P1-5 zijn nieuw en volgroeid, P6 is groeiende. P7 mist, terwijl P8-10 nog juveniel zijn. De nieuwe handpennen zijn veel ronder dan de spitse oude juveniele veren. De middelste staartveren zijn juveniel, de andere staartveren zijn nieuwe tweede-generatie veren. Opvallend zijn de donkere okselveren en vleugeldekveren. De snavel toont een uitgebreide roze basis.

Time Well Spent
I caught my youngest dog, Blue, at a close and silly angle, looking up at him for once! I had a good laugh while I was taking this photo because his dinner was being prepped behind me and he refused to take his eyes off his dog bowl being filled with his grub. The photo is warm toned and I thought the curtains behind him blurred nicely in the pattern.
