The central rectrices are juvenile, the other tail feathers are new second-generation feathers. Note the dark axillaries and wing coverts. The bill shows an extensive pink base.

Scheveningen strand, 11 juli 2009. Vliegbeeld van een tweede-kalenderjaar Zilvermeeuw ruiend naar tweede-winterkleed. P1-5 zijn nieuw en volgroeid, P6 is groeiende. P7 mist, terwijl P8-10 nog juveniel zijn. De nieuwe handpennen zijn veel ronder dan de spitse oude juveniele veren. De middelste staartveren zijn juveniel, de andere staartveren zijn nieuwe tweede-generatie veren. Opvallend zijn de donkere okselveren en vleugeldekveren. De snavel toont een uitgebreide roze basis.

Time Well Spent

I caught my youngest dog, Blue, at a close and silly angle, looking up at him for once! I had a good laugh while I was taking this photo because his dinner was being prepped behind me and he refused to take his eyes off his dog bowl being filled with his grub. The photo is warm toned and I thought the curtains behind him blurred nicely in the pattern.

I was trying to make the pumpkin in focus while the snowman was out of focus. It was also edited because the snowman was dark and the pumpkin was lighter. I wanted to make the brightness to be more balanced.

With this picture I wanted whoever is looking at it to be able to taste the pizza. The box the pizza came in also was a nice contrast to the green pizza, so I placed it in the background.

I was very impressed that i could see the wood grain from so far away. The texture really caught my eye.

Clearly visible (especially in the left wing) are the missing greater coverts, exposing the light base of the juvenile secondaries. Note that the primary coverts have also been replaced by much darker feathers and that the inner primaries again form a light window. Rectrices T1-3 have been dropped, creating a gap in the tail, while T4-6 are new.

Binnenhaven Scheveningen, 11 juli 2009. Tweede-kalenderjaar Zilvermeeuw ruiend naar tweede-winterkleed. Een donker individu, dezelfde als in deze foto. P1-5 zijn nieuw en volgroeid, P6 is groeiende. P7 mist, terwijl P8-10 nog juveniel zijn. Duidelijk zichtbaar (vooral in de linkervleugel) zijn de missende grote dekveren, daarbij de lichte basis van de nog juveniele armpennen blootleggend. De handpendekveren zijn vervangen door donkere veren; de binnenste handpennen vormen wederom een licht venster.

My original intent for this shot was to focus on one berry;however, capturing the whole vine with the green back round enhanced the blue in the berry and the red of the vine. The colors of the photo changes the view for each viewer.
