Mediterranean Gull (Ichthyaetus melanocephalus), 2nd calendar year
Le Portel, Quai de la Violette, France, July 22, 2010. Green 2S2. Second-calendar year Mediterranean Gull, moulting to second winter plumage. In flight, the active moult process can be clearly seen. The majority of the greater wing coverts have been dropped, thereby exposing the white base of the secondaries. The dark first-generation lesser wing coverts create a dark carpal bar. P1-P3 are new and fully grown, P4 is almost fully grown, P5 is growing, P6 has been dropped. In the tail, only T5 are old, first-generation feathers (recognizable by their dark brown tip), the other tail feathers are either new or have been dropped.
Moulting score: 21 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=4, P5=1, P6=1, P7=0, P8=0, P9=0, P10=0).
(Ringing date: June 12, 2009, Conchil le Temple, Pas-de-Calais, France, Age: pullus.)
Zwartkopmeeuw (Ichthyaetus melanocephalus), 2de kalenderjaar
Quai de la Violette, Le Portel, Frankrijk, 22 juli 2010. Groen 2S2.
Ruiscore: 21 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=4, P5=1, P6=1, P7=0, P8=0, P9=0, P10=0).

Intention: Another example of contrast, this photo shows the shelter house often used for parties and camp visits empty closed down for the winter, with the windows also reflecting the rest of the park snowed over.
Reference to the reading: “Consistency of style matters because it gives a story visual unity”, so using a blue tone across these five images help to give them a unified “cold” feel to them
Outcome: While not as effective as the shoes in the tree (Photo 4) in my opinion, I believe this also shows a good contrast of light and dark in a winter setting.
Edits: I cropped the image, edited the windows to be darker, and added a blue tone to the image overall.

My intent was to create a promotional shot for the candle by using additional candles, red fabrics, and liquids to establish a scene. I wanted to create a story within the image with the hopes of receiving a reaction or causing some type of feelings in the viewer.
I love to take pictures, which is a big reason why I'm taking this class. I thought it would be cool to take a picture of my old camera, using my new one.

I intended to capture the earbuds as they usually look when I pull them out of my pocket. I only wanted one of the earbuds to be in focus.
European Herring Gull (Larus argentatus argenteus), 7th calendar year
Leiden, Beestenmarkt, July 20, 2011.Yellow E261, Yellow E. Seventh-calendar year Herring Gull, settling an argument with another Herring Gull. Herring Gulls at this time of year are actively replacing their primary feathers and indeed the inner primaries P1 to P5 of the ringed individual on the right have been replaced by fresh, new feathers. No other primaries have yet been dropped though, which could indicate that it has suspended its wing moult to save energy in order to care for its young.
Primary moult score: 25 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=5, P5=5, P6=0, P7=0, P8=0, P9=0, P10=0).
(Ringinfo: ringed in Scheveningen, The Netherlands, October 3, 2007. Age: 3rd calendar year.)
Zilvermeeuw (Larus argentatus argenteus) 7de kalenderjaar
Beestenmarkt, Leiden, 20 juli 2010.
Handpenruiscore: 25 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=5, P5=5, P6=0, P7=0, P8=0, P9=0, P10=0).
(Ringdatum: 3 oktober 2007, Scheveningen. Leeftijd: 3de kalenderjaar.)
Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus), 4th calendar year
Leiden, Maresingel, October 16, 2010. Yellow H.501 Helgoland N006485. Fourth-calendar year Lesser Black-backed Gull, moulting to fourth-winter plumage (fourth cycle, fourth prebasic moult). Reaching the final stages of the moulting process, P1 to P8 are new and fully grown, P9 is just growing and P10 has been shed. Compared to early September more streaking on the head and especially the upper breast can be seen.
Primary moult score:: 41 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=5, P5=5, P6=5, P7=5, P8=5, P9=1, P10=0).
(Ring info: ringed June 30, 2007, Amrum, Odde, Germany. Age: pullus.)
Kleine Mantelmeeuw (Larus fuscus), vierde kalenderjaar
Maresingel, Leiden, 16 oktober 2010. Geel H.501 Helgoland N006485.
Handpenruiscore:: 41 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=5, P5=5, P6=5, P7=5, P8=5, P9=1, P10=0).
(Ringdatum: 30 juni 2007, Amrum, Odde, Duitsland. Leeftijd: pullus.)

P1 to P3 are new and fully grown, P4 is mostly grown, P5 is growing, P6 has been shed. Because most of the greater coverts have been shed, the white base of the underlying secondaries can be clearly seen. In the tail, the central feathers have been replaced by all-white feathers. The bill is mostly orange with a black tip.
Primary moult score: 21 (P1=5, P2=5, P3=5, P4=4, P5=1, P6=1, P7=0, P8=0, P9=0, P10=0).
