Taken on the wonderful Island of Lunga where there is a breeding colony of 10,000 Puffins, plus lots of other amazing seabirds.

Puffins do fly very fast, so not the easiest bird to capture in flight.

Thankfully it was a lovey sunny day on the island allowing for a fast shutter speed and low ISO. Haven't managed a shot of a Puffin flying over my head before!

I'm convinced that this is where airplane designers get their ideas for spy planes.

In the Museum of Liverpool Life. Yet another Liverpool World's first was the electric overhead railway...sadly it succumbed to WW2 bombs and was repaired but eventually could not be saved. This carriage is so nostalgic...

Spitfire XVI TE311 of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight passes overhead about to land at RAF Northolt. It had given a short display and then touched down to be shown off to guests at a recent Polish event at RAF Northolt. It's wearing the markings of Polish Group Captain Aleksander Gabszewicz. While the clipped wings of the Mk.16 improved its rate of roll it did rather spoil the classic shape of the elliptical wing!

In the Anacortes Community Forest Lands.

I found lots of critter activity in a spot near the pond and hung out there for about an hour in the stationary rolling blind. I saw juncos, a hairy woodpecker, song sparrows, spotted towhees, robins, scrub jays, great blue herons flying overhead, a jackrabbit (who did a lightning fast 180 as soon as he saw the car), and this charming gray squirrel. All from one spot! Maybe they were all busy preparing for the snow due to arrive shortly. Siskiyou County, California

This Chinook helicopter was flying very low overhead

Watched this American Robin very high overhead in a tree at the park near the arboretum. Had to try to get a couple of photos before it flew away. Some migrate south while some hangout for the winter that is still to come. Taken same morning as the Minion photos. :)

Common Shelduck, (Tadorna) flying overhead at Titchwell, Norfolk.

Looks like a black ops operation...

I don't think it was of course, but it suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and it was flying quite low and slow.

I was at the lakeshore in the evening, photographing gulls, and suddenly-- this!

Now and then I like to slum it and use some of the ancient gear I have either aquired or hung on to. For me, it is just a different experience, and I believe nice images can be made with pretty much any gear.

On this occasion I decided to bring out the old full frame Nikon D700 with a 28-105mm D lens from 1999, which is a nice walkabout lens. Now at 12.1 MP. 92mm is not ideal to shoot a bird in flight, but, still I tried, and was very happy with this shot. Not much for detail or sharpness but I liked the light on the gull and the few clouds.
