I love bike riding. I love riding on the road and I love riding the trails. A few months ago a friend of ours Mom, Jenny Ewing, was brutally murdered on a bike trail. A rapist, who had just spent 10 years in prison for rape, was out and to our complete sadness and horror, targeted Jenny! I have been afraid to go out on my own now. Before I never did worry. Sometimes fear can be so paralizing and I know many other bikers have felt it too. But, Jenny wouldnt have wanted it that way. I am now so much more aware of my surroundings when I am on my own and today, here, I got as far as this, in a complete sweat. I had been waiting for a friend to meet me in the car park at the start of this trail, but he didnt show. So I thought let me try and see how far I can get by myself! I am slowly over coming my fear!
Inside-Out, Bridging Possibilities, encourages incarcerated youth to explore safe and healthy lifestyles and to overcome disabilities through the development of leadership and social skills. “Inside Out” meets Arizona education standards.
Our programs provide and demonstrate endless possibilities and options for the individual through the experiential creative process of whole-brain thinking. This awakens a creative consciousness and exposes the individual to the unlimited potential of critical thinking, problem solving, and self-empowerment, awakening the individual to new possibilities and a new purpose that leads to improved life skills and becoming a productive community member. Without these critical life skills, the still maturing minds of detained youth view their future as bleak and set in stone with no hope for a “normal” life.
2005 RTF instituted the first “Inside Out – Bridging Possibilities” Workshops at Durango and SEF Detention Centers.
Workshops at these Detention Centers confirmed that 25% of the participants had no further problems with breaking the law. Detention staff attributed this to the Workshop, reduce the recidivism rate, a tremendous fiscal savings & new beginnings for the youth.
Goals:
1 To present educational programs and workshops in detention facilities.
2 To teach youth valuable life skills focusing on dealing with conflicts and anger.
3 To share with the community a message stressing decreased violence of all types.
4 To introduce new and fresh perspectives thought the creative process.
5 To enlighten participants about their purpose in life.
Description of the program, including the goals, expected outcome:
Inside-Out Bridging Possibilities program engages individuals to explore safe and healthy lifestyles, to overcome their disabilities through leadership and social skills development. It exposes the participants to creative problem solving and creates the opportunity to shift a life to a more effective and peaceful outlet. Between Pre & Post surveys the participants engage in team reflective surveys, after each exercise. Where they take turns being a team leader and are responsible for extracting inquiry from their team and reporting to the entire group their findings. How would this activity help you in your day life in school or out, and why? This engages the participants in a whole-brain thinking process of the creative activities they just experienced. Also introduces them to teamwork, listening skills and the confidence of public speaking. At the end of the 3-day workshop, as the culmination and pinnacle of their experiences drawn from the program, participants create a group painting to present to the public; an expression created by persons from multiple perspectives can be harmonious and unifying. Thus, this is not only a healing experience for the group but also a community awareness campaign, sharing a message of decreased violence of all types. Our findings from Pre & Post results, majority realize that they are not alone in their fears and that their dreams can become reality. By introducing new and fresh perspectives through the power of the creative process, our participants learn to embrace life and fully realize its endless possibilities. Shifting awareness turns Pain into the means of Bridging their Possibilities, so participants can become enlightened about their Purpose and lead a productive life.
There are no other programs with similar methodology of teaching valuable life skills, enhance participants’ sense of self and surroundings, and allow them to experience alternative ways of dealing with conflict and anger.
The need for our program & popular demand; each potential participant is required to read and fill out a form that details the program and why they feel they deserve to participate. Due to class size restraints only 20 of 60 that applied were selected by the staff at The Durango Facility, as well as SEF. As you can see, the program and its life changing experience and results are becoming very popular amongst the kids at both facilities, through word of mouth.

The Brotherhood of this Penitente Morada has overcome many challenges. Fires and a ransacking of the Morada have tested its members but they remain strong and dedicated to serving their community. This photograph was made shortly after the Morada was rebuilt and restored in 1993.
Los Hermanos de la Fraternidad Piadosa de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno (Spanish: "The Brothers of the Pious Fraternity of Our Father Jesus the Nazarene", also known as Los Penitentes, Los Hermanos, and the Penitente Brotherhood) is a lay confraternity of Roman Catholic men active in Northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.
Accounts of the roots of Los Penitentes date back at least a thousand years to the flagellant orders in Spain and Italy. However, the current incarnation of the Brotherhood dates to the early 19th century. Following Mexican independence from Spain in 1821, Church authorities in Mexico withdrew the Franciscan, Dominican and Jesuit missionaries from its provinces, replacing them with secular priests. They failed, however, to replace the missionaries with an equal number of priests, depriving many secluded communities of a resident clergyman. Accordingly, many of those small communities could expect only a once-yearly visit from a parish priest.
The men in those communities eventually came together in the absence of a priest for the purpose of prayer, and to offer spiritual and social aid to the community. They gathered in meeting houses known as moradas. Los Penitentes were perhaps best known for their songs of worship, called alabados, and for their ascetic practices, which included self-flagellation in private ceremonies during Lent, and processions during Holy Week which ended with the reenactment of Christ’s crucifixion on Good Friday.
Archbishop Jean Baptiste Lamy and his successor, Jean Baptiste Salpointe, unsuccessfully attempted to suppress the brotherhood in the latter part of the 19th century as a part of the "Americanization" of the Church in New Mexico, driving its membership underground. For this reason, Los Penitentes are sometimes described as a “secret society”. The Brotherhood reconciled with the Church in the mid 20th century, receiving formal recognition in 1947, and Los Penitentes remain active in Northern New Mexico and southern Colorado to this day.

God’s Word Helped Me Overcome Satan’s Temptation Twice
By Sun Yue
One day, my mother-in-law told me delightedly that the Lord Jesus has returned in flesh. Afterward, she invited other sisters to testify to me patiently about God’s work of the last days. Through their fellowship, I knew that Almighty God is the second coming of the Lord Jesus. So, I gaily accepted God’s new work.God’s Word Helped Me Overcome Satan’s Temptation Twice God’s word was so attractive that once I had the time, I would read it and learn to sing hymns. The more I read God’s word, the greater energy I had to believe in God, the sweeter I felt at heart, and the more released my spirit was. I couldn’t say how happy I was in my heart!...
Two days later, the sister who was watering me came for a visit. I told her, “My eye would hurt severely once I read this book. You’d better take it away and give it to others. I really can’t read it.” After hearing my words, she fellowshiped with me patiently, “Sister, we’re fortunate to catch up with the work of true God. Satan and the evil spirits won’t possibly let us go and follow true God to be saved. Especially when we have just accepted God’s new work and haven’t understood much of all the truths expressed by God, this is the chance that Satan will easily take advantage of to disturb our reading God’s word and destroy our normal relationship with God. God’s word says: ‘The work of the Holy Spirit is a form of proactive guidance and positive enlightenment. It does not allow people to be passive. It brings them solace, gives them faith and resolve and it enables them to pursue being made perfect by God. When the Holy Spirit works, people are able to actively enter; they are not passive or forced, but are proactive.’ ‘The work of the Holy Spirit is proactive progress, while the work of Satan is regression and passivity, disobedience toward God, opposition to God, loss of faith in God, and unwillingness to even sing songs or get up and dance. That which comes from the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit is not forced upon you, but is especially natural. If you follow it, you will have the truth, and if you don’t, then afterward there will be reproach. If it is the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, then nothing you do will be interfered with or constrained, you will be set free, there will be a path to practice in your actions, and you will not be subject to any restraints, and be able to act upon the will of God. The work of Satan brings many things that cause interference to you, it makes you unwilling to pray, too lazy to eat and drink the words of God, and undisposed to live the life of the church, and it estranges you from the spiritual life’ (‘The Work of the Holy Spirit and the Work of Satan’). God’s word tells us clearly the manifestations of the work of the Holy Spirit and the work of Satan. The work of the Holy Spirit is completely positive, particularly natural and soft, without forcing man to do this or that; when the Holy Spirit moves man and enlightens man, man will feel liberated in spirit and his relationship with God will be more and more normal. Whereas the work of Satan is absolutely negative, aimed at disturbing and destroying our normal relationship with God; and Satan always does this through great force, distracting our mind from quieting ourselves to read God’s word or become close to God. Gradually, we stay away from God and betray God; this is Satan’s base purpose. Just like the environment you encounter today: Your eye hurts, this is out of Satan’s disturbance. Satan wants to force us to quit reading God’s word, so that we may stay away from God and betray God. We should see things from a spiritual perspective, increase our discernment, and see through Satan’s trick.”

On the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Orders of the Golden Star to the relatives of the fallen Heroes of Ukraine and awarded the warriors with the Cross of Military Merit decorations.
The Head of State began his speech at the ceremony with information about the massive night attack. The aggressor state of the Russian Federation launched almost 60 missiles and more than 20 “Shahed” drones aimed at civilian objects of Ukraine.
“This night, life itself was a target, just as it has been during hundreds of other similar nights and days of this war. For everyone in the world who truly sees the reality and has the courage not to close their eyes, it is obvious that the Russian state wages war not only against our Ukrainian independence, not only against our state, but against everything that ensures life for our state and people,” the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russian Nazism will not be able to overcome the determination, bravery, and integrity of those who oppose evil, stop destruction and save people from elimination.
“May those whose courage and strength preserve life on Earth never fade from people's memory. May cooperation and law prevail, ensuring normal, peaceful coexistence of nations. And may the memory of everyone who fought for the sake of life and sacrificed the most precious thing — their lives — so that evil would not prevail on earth remain bright and eternal,” the Head of State emphasized.
The memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine was honored with a minute of silence.
The President presented the Orders of the Golden Star to the families of the fallen Heroes. The title of Hero of Ukraine was posthumously awarded to:
Soldier Vasyl Hukalo. He took part in the clearing of the village of Blahodatne, the restoration of positions in the Serebryanka forestry, and the defense of Kreminna, he also repelled enemy attacks in Bakhmut. He eliminated 16 Russian invaders and organized the evacuation of the wounded across the Bakhmutka River under artillery fire. Vasyl Hukalo was killed last year on April 21 while performing a combat mission to organize new approaches.
Soldier Taras Dovhun. Last January, he was engaged in a continuous battle with the Russian occupiers for several days. He personally killed more than 15 invaders. Despite shrapnel wounds to his legs, he provided aid to himself and his brother-in-arms and kept fighting. During the evacuation of the troops to a safer place, the enemy carried out a massive mortar attack. Taras Dovhun sustained fatal injuries.
Lieutenant Andriy Zhovanyk. He covered more than a thousand kilometers in combat and participated in the liberation of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. He also led a special operation to liberate Chornobyl. His unit destroyed more than 30 pieces of equipment. On August 2, 2022, on the outskirts of Soledar, as a member of a group of UAV operators, he encountered an enemy subversive group. During the battle, one of the warriors was wounded. Andriy Zhovanyk tried to take him to a shelter and was fatally wounded himself.
Junior Sergeant Andriy Kotsyk. As part of an assault group, he destroyed 4 enemy IFVs and 20 infantrymen. He saved the lives of 5 wounded brothers-in-arms. He sustained a gunshot wound himself, but despite this, he eliminated 4 Russian occupiers and prevented the breakthrough of Ukrainian positions. Andriy Kotsyk was killed last year on February 4 during a heavy enemy artillery attack on the position captured by his group.
Senior Lieutenant Volodymyr Lobodiuk. He commanded a mortar platoon during the defense of Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region and led the offensive in the Kherson direction. The mortar battery's fire enabled the breakthrough of the Russian occupiers' frontline in several communities of the Kherson region. He personally destroyed 3 Russian invaders in a battle with an enemy assault group on December 16, 2022, but sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Captain Vladyslav Lonskyi. The unit under his command thwarted the Russian occupiers' crossing of the Siverskyi Donets River, destroyed 3 tanks and 2 IFVs, crossed the Oskil River, and gained a foothold on the left bank. Vladyslav Lonskyi died on September 19, 2022, during a massive tank attack on his positions.
Soldier Artur Pashkulyak. He participated in the defense of Kyiv and Bakhmut. His actions helped to destroy almost 3 combat groups of Wagnerites and to thwart a breakthrough attempt by about a company of militants. During the battle, he personally hit an APC-82 carrying infantry and personnel with an RPG. Artur Pashkulyak was killed last year on April 2, while repelling continuous assaults by the Russian occupiers.
Lieutenant Taras Chaika. In November 2022, during a combat mission, he got under heavy mortar fire while driving a vehicle and sustained a shrapnel wound. Despite this, Taras Chaika managed to take the vehicle and its crew out of the active firefight area and thus saved the lives of the wounded, but died himself.
Soldier Yuriy Shevchenko. He organized the evacuation of two seriously wounded warriors under heavy cannon and mortar fire. After that, together with other servicemen, he repelled 4 attacks by more than 40 Russian invaders. After all the defenders were killed, he stayed at the position alone and repelled one more attack, killing 7 occupiers. Yuriy Shevchenko enabled the approach of the battalion's reserves, but was killed in this battle.
Eight Ukrainian defenders were awarded with the Cross of Military Merit decorations:
Captain of the Medical Service Kateryna Bezrodnia. She led an evacuation team that walked 5 kilometers under enemy fire control and helped a seriously wounded serviceman. She also provided assistance to wounded warriors under heavy mortar fire.
Junior Sergeant Mykola Voroshylov. He was wounded in a small arms battle while helping his wounded brothers-in-arms. Mykola Voroshylov's actions helped to defend the combat position and saved the lives of the servicemen and the battalion's defense line.
Major Andriy-Vasyl Dziuba. On January 24 of this year, despite massive artillery shelling, he led an armored group and moved to the frontline. While repelling the assault, he killed 8 Russian invaders and wounded 2 more.
Major Vasyl Logush. During the Russian invaders' assault in the Donetsk region, he organized the defense and coordinated the work of artillery, causing the occupiers to suffer losses and retreat. The units under his command also recaptured 3 enemy positions.
Lieutenant Colonel Bohdan Mykhailiv. The artillery battery under his command destroyed 6 KAMAZ vehicles and ammunition, an APC with ammunition stack, and more than 27 Russian invaders, and also damaged 4 guns.
Captain Ihor Sierapionov. He took part in the JFO. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he has commanded the operation of clearing several communities in the Donetsk region and organized successful offensives in the area of Vuhledar and Zaitseve.
Major Vladyslav Slominskyi. During this January, the battery's firing units under his command hit enemy firing positions, armored vehicles, FPV drone launch points and personnel near the village of Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region three times. This forced the Russian occupiers to stop their assault actions.
Lieutenant Colonel Vladyslav Tsyba. On October 1, 2022, together with other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, he joined the counteroffensive and led the personnel during the liberation of the city of Lyman. Thanks to Vladyslav Tsyba's command, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine despite constant assaults.
In the materialistic concept happiness and power are partners. As nihilist philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said, “Happiness is the feeling that power increases - that resistance is being overcome." What does this mean for us? To have power today means to have purchasing power, because the more you can purchase the happier you’ll be. Now, we all know that money can’t buy happiness. Still, it would be nice to have multiple cashflow streams and more “discretionary income” because then our power to attract happiness would increase, wouldn’t it? Actually, according to statistics there is no marked increase in happiness above a standard middle class income, and for every extra dollar earned our expectations rise one dollar forty.
In the spiritual concept happiness and power also go together, but in a different way. The genuine spiritual practitioner knows that the power of self-control is actually the cornerstone of real happiness. Here’s how it works. Through genuine yoga practice one receives spiritual intelligence and along with it the power of self-control, which brings inner peace - the pacification of illusory desires. This is the missing link in today’s happiness puzzle, being the solid platform from which real pleasure becomes a tangible reality.
“Before giving up this present body, if one is able to tolerate the urges of the material senses and check the force of desire and anger, he is well situated and is happy in this world.” - Bhagavad Gita 5.23
