American fascination with the automotive tail fin began in the late 40's and was inspired later in the 50's by the jet age. The tail fin race peaked in 1959 with Cadillac winning, mainly over Chrysler for fin supremacy, Ford played along but it wasn't part of their design plan to be involved in one-upmanship. By the mid 60's the fin had faded away, fun while it lasted though.

Another fisheye shot of this beautiful trainstation, it just screamed for it. The place looks empty and it was, all government staff were on strike that day, so no trains were running. Lucky me!

Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge - backlit grackles

*[took some slight angle-positioning to get this just-right - fun!]

Boat-tailed Grackles are large, lanky songbirds with rounded crowns, long legs, and fairly long, pointed bills. Males have very long tails that make up almost half their body length and they typically hold them folded in a V-shape, like the keel of a boat.

The glossy blue-black males are hard to miss as they haul their ridiculously long tails around or display them from marsh grasses or trees. They are so common Everglades guides nicknamed them swamp rats! They are all over the Everglades! Fun to observe.

Overcome by a moment of inner wackiness, I decided to tackle this image of Central Park in New York in a 'different' way. The whole scene was filled with people having fun, so this is what led me to this particular interpretation! Best wishes, Ric.

On our way out of Vegas we stopped at this place called the Peppermill Fireside Lounge.

It's an off the strip, old school Vegas sort of place.

It has been here since 1972.

This photo doesn't do it justice.

It is a classic Bar, Lounge. If you go to Vegas stop in for a drink.

The Bar area has a floating fire pit. Straight out of the Playboy Mansion look.

Below is the link. Take a look and check out the photos.

Sandhill Crane - In the Wild - is it in distress? is it not?

stuck on its lower bill? - likes it? - playing around w/ it?

We'll never know as we left him there - to fend for himself...or not.

(didn't seem to bother him and his bills were operational to feed)

Not sure what he's got there. Could be anything picked up today? or an hour ago? or somewhere between here and Canada? Didn't want to stress it out - by trying to help remove the weird hanging debris.

This is the truck that Stallone was driving in the movie 'Over the top'.

Happy Slider Sunday! HSS!

This is the famous Horseshoe Bend in the Colorado River near Page Arizona.

I had the privilege to see it in person over two years ago and took this shot. One has to hang precariously over the edge to take such a shot.

I have processed the heck out of it and never had anything I was happy to post. I decided to have fun with it and take it one step further.

The best thing is to have a sense of humour about it and post it as an example of what not to do!

I likely unintentionally have at least a few more examples in my photostream! :-)

Hi-Risers are a type of highly customized automobile, typically a traditional, full-size, body on frame, V8 powered, rear wheel drive American-built sedan modified by significantly increasing the ground clearance and adding large-diameter wheels with low-profile tires. Depending on the model and style of body, autos customized in this manner can be labeled "donk," "box," or "bubble." Hi-risers originally grew out of the Dirty South subculture, but the trend has spread across the United States. Vehicles customized in the hi-riser style are distinguished by their oversized (even disproportionate) wheels, ranging from 20 inches to 30 inches or more in diameter (largest being 50 inch), as well as fanciful custom paint-jobs and expensive audio equipment. Suspension modifications similar to those employed on lifted pickup trucks are made to give adequate clearance for the large wheels. Often the suspension is modified so the front end sits slightly higher than the rear end, giving the car a swaggering appearance. Because of the exaggerated look gained from installing a lifted suspension and enormous wheels, donks are also known as "hi-risers" or "sky-scrapers."

Donk Cars are also referred to as Hi-risers, Box cars or Bubble Cars and are basically a type of customized vehicle that has been significantly altered to increase ground clearance. This is usually achieved by installing extremely large-diameter wheels with low-profile tires. Donk Cars originally grew from the South American culture and over the years has spread to the rest of the United States and other countries. Vehicles customized in the hi-riser style are distinguished by their over sized wheels, which are quite often between 22 to 30 inches and on some occasions even bigger. These Donk cars are usually fully customized with fanciful paint-jobs and expensive audio equipment too. Suspension modifications similar to those employed on lifted pickup trucks are made to give adequate clearance for the large wheels. Often the suspension is modified so the front end sits slightly higher than the rear end, giving the car a swaggering appearance. Because of the exaggerated look gained from installing a lifted suspension and enormous wheels, donks are also known as “sky-scrapers.”

Half hdr...

What I mean is that the ocean, beach, rocks, the trees are all hdr (3 blended exposures). But the sky is just from the shortest (darkest) exposure. It's the same thing I did with the last one in my stream.

And for those of you that think it's overdone, you're quite right. It is. But like I said in the last overdone one, I was overdue for some 'over the top'. It's kind of therapeutic. Besides, if I showed you just one of the exposures of this photo, you would just go 'blah'. Trust me, you would. Out loud. Then you would just click on...

Explored! Thank you much!

For doing me the honour of writing me a very friendly testimonial, thank you so much! I know you liked the beach picture I recently posted and that you made a crop suggestion on it. This is the crop applied to another beach image I had taken on the same evening.

I know I've gone completely overboard with this overly romantic image that makes the glazing on your teeth pop; but hey: people still do this stuff for real :-) If anyone has a music suggestion to go with this, that could give fun results :-)

The view count comes to 18,008,236 at 9:36 AM this morning 31 January 2016.

With the current view count per day (roughly 15,000), it will take 1,270 years to let everyone on the globe to see my pictures! The global population is approximately 7 billion.

Wish my friends a great Sunday!

It is raining outside.

==================================================

This is the picture and story posted in December 2013. The view count was 3 million at that time (December 2013).

After the 17 months and now it is May 2015, the view count comes to 13.4 million (13,432,407 views as of 11:26 AM this morning). This is something to do with the new approach of Flickr stats and also support of my friends.

My pictures are mostly mundane subjects and candid shots of ordinary city life. These types of pictures are not going to get a lot of views.

If you want to have great many views, one should shoot those very fashionable "staged self portrait" or "imaginary theme heavy Photoshop" pictures! :o)

Thank you for all your visits, comments and faves after all these years!

Have a great Friday and weekend!

Thank you everyone for the 3 millions views! The view count is sitting at 3,008,350 this morning on 17 December when I checked into Flickr.

On 30 September 2013, I hit the 2 millions views mark. It took 39 months to get my first million views on Flickr and then it took only 10 months to reach the second million. Now it takes less than 3 months to reach the third million. What shall I say about this? Internet or Flickr is just wonderful!

It makes the works of an amateur like me reaching so many people in the world. And it also gives me the opportunity in interacting with hundreds and thousands of fellow photographers.

I did mention about the limitations of my photography before. I have not yet found my unique theme. Many aspiring photographers develop their own theme and keep working on it. I am still shooting randomly and casually and mostly locally in my neighbourhood and hometown. This is not going to be producing any great works. :o(

What goes up has to come down at the end. I don't think that another miracle is going to happen i.e. another million in a month?

The views will slowly go back to "normal" when my contacts are getting bored with my mundane and minimalism pictures. :o)

We visited the Whistler Olympic Park on Sunday. The skier is climbing up the hill and then he comes down nicely in the runway.

What climbs up, will go down!

Happy Tuesday! Thank you for all your views, comments and faves!
