Winter photo with minor cropping and re-sizing. Colors are natural though. This scene is taken from outside of the back door of the community room at the McFarlin Chelmsford housing. It is almost dusk in this photo. I like the hill and the glow of the lights on the snowy ground.

Quote: "Happily, in a world where nothing remains static, the Great Smoky Mountains provide the prescription to ward off ills and evils born of super-civilization. A single day spent in the Smokies away from the works of man is therapy to last a year. And with each passing year, the national park grows in value as a model of natural harmony." (Michael Frome, 1966)

I'm lucky to have a reason and the ability to visit beautiful places frequently.

Pickett Lake Natural Bridge

Pickett Lake State Park

Near Jamestown, Tennessee

I was only able to make one trip to the Big South Fork last year, but I did manage to get a couple of good images. Pickett Lake State Park lies just outside the BSF boundary in Tennessee. If fact, the Sheltowee Trace, a 270 or so mile National Recreation Trail, has it's southern terminus in this park. One of the features is Pickett Lake Natural Bridge which spans this section of Arch Lake.

Wünsche allen einen guten Tag.

When I decided to roadtrip with the dog to California from Washington DC in the middle of December, I purposely did very little planning. For roadtrips, I generally set the GPS where I eventually need to go, hit mute, and then detour as much as I can. I made sure to have enough dog food, water, snacks and cash but otherwise didn't really have an itinerary to go off of.

The final leg of the trip had us passing by the Petrified Forest in Arizona early afternoon 2 days before Christmas. By this point, both of us were pretty exhausted and the weather certainly didn't help. 40mph winds and temperatures around freezing weren't uncommon, with some snow falling starting around New Mexico. I really didn't plan to stop but figured $20 to drive through a National Park I'd never been to was worth the cost. It only took a few hundred feet past the entrance to realize how amazing this place was. I did not pace myself well and spent the majority of the time photographing the first few miles, eventually leaving the park about 40 minutes after it closed for the evening.

This place was incredible and while the weather was really dramatic, the wind really frustrated me. I had all these amazing clouds moving quickly across the sky with entire storms visible off in the distance, and yet could only use extremely fast shutter speeds on account of the high winds. I ended up taking hundreds of shots, some capturing the beauty I saw, others a blurry, over-exposed mess. Maybe Scotch didn't fully grasp the magnitude of this place (it was difficult for me as well), but he certainly seemed interested in the landscape around us. He's always very lucky I kept him tethered close to me. I think he was ready to explore.

This was shot near sunset just outside of Rossland. I was hoping Old Glory mountain would show her face for a sunset, but that didn't happen the whole week I was there. This one isn't too bad though, huh. Taken right along the highway, after clambering up the steep (and deep) snow bank.

Winter is by far my favorite season. So far this year we haven't had any snow. Luckily I have a computer full of pics from last winter so here goes...

Thank you for visiting!

I was concentrating so hard on the bee that I didn't really look at the flowers when I took this shot at Borde Hill recently. I presumed it was lavender, but now I'm not sure. Is it catmint/catnip? I have no doubt there are many gardeners out there who will be horrified at my lack of knowledge of flowers, but I'm hoping they'll put me right. :))

The Wild Moor

One from the weekend and a snowy Alston Moor just outside the village of Nenthead in Cumbria.

I love this location, the grasses and the wall winding its way into the distance....beautiful but so bloody cold.

Obrigada pelas visitas =)

Some stray light found its way down our quiet street one afternoon while I was home. Wendi came in to let me know about it but in my rush to get outside I must have scared it off. So I quickly called Owen out and we waited patiently until it came back, which it did just a few minutes later.

Light is half of everything there is for photographers, so it's worth waiting.

On this particular day I was playing with a Hasselblad Super Wide C that is currently in at Blue Moon (and will be out for sale shortly). Fun little cameras. Not sure I would ever actually buy one... too restrictive for my tastes, but that 38mm lens is a fun piece of glass.

Taken in Kensington Gardens.

A wonderful morning over the country.

Actually the reason I ambled along Jalan Sudirman and then up Jalan Malioboro - famous drag of Yogyakarta - was not to see the Kraton, the Sultan's Palace. I've seen it a couple of times in the past... But there are pleasant little streets behind that edifice with houses and gardens and even some 'weedy' patches along walls. Lots of wee things there that interest me...

Here's a beautiful Scoliid Wasp, a Campsomeris of some kind, licking away on a flower of the very weedy Coatbuttons or Tridax procumbens.

During a day at work, i looked outside and saw a clear, cloudless sky. So in between work i started to plan a Milky Way photoshoot for the evening. Unfortunately when i got to the place where i planned to go there clouds were already creeping from the horizon. So i just quickly took some photos before clouds obstracted the view totally. This is one of them and i am quite happy with it :)

PLEASE, no multi invitations in your comments. Thanks. I AM POSTING MANY DO NOT FEEL YOU HAVE TO COMMENT ON ALL - JUST ENJOY.

Stopped at a common person's house on the way to Novgorod. I think she is better off than most as the house is decorative outside way more than others. There are hundreds of log cabins all along the road made from pine trees but I could not get a decent picture.

Thanks to all who take the time to comment etc....

I have just returned from an epic trip with fellow photographers Antony Spencer & Aaron Bennett

It was amazing to experience and explore Iceland, We had mild activity most nights and an amazing 20 minute display on Tuesday. We also had pretty decent weather for sunset and sun rise. All in all a great trip and it was amazing to finally see the northern lights!

It really is a challenge photographing the Northern lights with problems like composing a shot in the dark to focus and noise issues it can get quite stressful especially when you have had no sleep for sometime and you can no longer feel your toes or feet.

I made this image with a Canon 5d ii with my Nikon 24mm ƒ1.4 G Lens with an Adapter to make it all work.

As the lens dose not communicate with the camera you can ignore the EXIF data for this shot apart from the shutter speed and ISO.
